Collin DeLome joins Atlantic League

Former PreStro Collin DeLome has signed a deal with the Bridgeport (CT) Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League (the home of the Sugar Land Skeeters). He was released on April 17, which came as a surprise, according to DeLome's father.

Oklahoma City Outfielder Collin DeLome has tweeted that he is not a member of the Astros organization any more. We'll try to dig for details.

Whooooa. Nelson Figueroa did what Nelson Figueroa does, and the RedHawks get swept at home to Omaha (somewhere in middle America), 13-2. A pair of RedHawks pitchers allowed 5ER - Figueroa, in 3.2IP, and Ross Wolf, in 1.2IP. Xavier Cedeno got two outs, allowing a hit, three walks, and 2ER, as well as two of Wolf's earned runs. Juan Abreu made his organizational debut, giving up 4H/1ER, 1K:1BB in 2IP. Fernando Abad threw the only scoreless outing.

Debuts! One rough inning - the 8th - sunk the Hooks, who lost 4-0 to San Antonio. Jarred Cosart made his organizational debut, throwing 6IP, 2H/0ER, 4K:0BB (47 of 73 pitches for strikes, 10 groundouts and three flyouts.). Josh Zeid threw 1.2IP, gave up 4H/4ER, 2K:0BB; two of those ERs came courtesy of Jason Stoffel, who ended up getting the last San Antonio out.

Jimmy Van Ostrand went 3x4, and Jonathan Villar, Brandon Barnes, Kody Hinze, and Brandon Wikoff had your other hits. There were no extra-base hits, and Chris Wallace had a rough one - going 0x4 with 3Ks.

Son of a gun. Amazingly, Lancaster actually had a lead in this one - however brief (1-0). Bakersfield had a 17-3 lead at the end of the fifth on their way to a 20-7 win over the JetHawks. Lots of pitchers in this one - seven, in fact. Zach Grimmett took the loss, with 5ER in 1.2IP; Colton Pitkin gave up 4ER, Wander Alvino have up 2ER, Shane Wolf gave up 6ER in 2.1IP. Kyle Greenwalt and Pat Urckfitz threw the only scoreless IPs, and 2B Andy Simunic threw the 8th inning, allowing 3H/3ER, 0K:2BB.

Danny Meszaros gave up a hit and two walks (3Ks) in 2IP; Sam Gervacio allowed 3H/4ER, 1K:2BB, HR in 1.2IP; Jose Valdez walked one and struck out one; and Emerson Frostad became the second OKC catcher to make an appearance on the mound, and got two outs without incident.

Tri-City held off a late Connecticut rally, where the Tigers scored the final three runs, but still lost to the ValleyCats 6-5. Despite committing four errors, the GCL Astros beat the GCL Cardinals 5-4. Raul Rivera and Juan Mojica each gave up 3ER, while Rafael Feliz allowed three unearned runs in 0.1IP. The GCL Astros committed six errors: Ditthardt, two from Fernandez, Genoves, and two from Chan-Jong Moon. Jose Monzon and Enrique Fernandez had two hits each, while Ryan Ditthardt and Jose Vargas provided the two other hits. Chan-Jong Moon, playing at 3rd, did draw two walks.

DSL Astros

The DSL Astros didn't get a hit until Jose Solano singled with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, and the DSL Dodgers obviously win 5-0. Enderson Franco threw 5IP, 4H/2ER, 1K:0BB, while Cristian Hirland allowed 8H/3ER, 2K:0BB in 3IP. Edgar Ferreira threw a scoreless 9th, though allowing two walks and a wild pitch. There was clearly not much going on offensively, with Solano's 9th inning single. But Yonathan Mejia drew a walk, and Luis De La Rosa drew two walks.

Round Rock

Strange game. New Orleans took a 5-0 lead after three, Round Rock rallied for five runs in the fourth, and New Orleans scored the final five runs for a 10-5 win over Round Rock. Josh Banks had a rare disaster start with 10H/6ER, 1K:3BB in 4.2IP. Roy Corcoran allowed 1K:1BB in 1.1IP, Yorman Bazardo allowed two unearned runs in 2IP, and Jonah Bayliss gave up 2H/2ER, 1K:2BB in 1IP. Collin DeLome was 3x5 with a grand slam and a stolen base, and Brian Bogusevic also had three hits. Matt Kata, Drew Locke, and Edwin Bellorin had two hits each. Wladimir Sutil was 1x2 with three walks.

Jackie Healey hit a two-run go-ahead homer (the first of his career) in the 6th to break a 3-3 tie.

Okay, so that was a wild one. Round Rock took a 3-0 lead, Albuquerque brought it back to 5-3 at the end of the 2nd. At the end of the fifth, it was 10-6 Albuquerque and Round Rock tied it up in the middle of the 7th. Then Albuquerque got a 5-run 8th inning and Round Rock could only get two back, and lose 16-13. Amazingly, the Express only used three pitchers: Sergio Perez (5IP, 11H/10R - 7ER - 1K:2BB), Yorman Bazardo (2IP, 3H/1ER, 0K:1BB) and Roy Corcoran, who crapped the bed with 1IP, 6H/5ER. Obviously, the big story was the offense. Wladimir Sutil was 3x5 with a homer and 3RBI. Edwin Maysonet was 3x5 with a double, homer, and 3RBI. Collin DeLome was 2x5 with 2HR/3RBI, and Drew Locke (2x4, 2BB, 3R), Ramon Vazquez (2x4, RBI), Brian Esposito (2x5, 2B, RBI), and German Duran (2x3) rounded out your multi-hit games.

Let's get some Big Picture here. The last time the Hooks won was June 21. That's a 12-game losing streak, after Jordan Lyles got rocked in a 7-1 loss to NW Arkansas. Lyles lasted 3.1IP, 8H/6ER, 1K:6BB, throwing 43 of his 82 pitches for strikes. Fernando Abad allowed 5H/1ER, 2K:0BB, and Danny Meszaros struck out four of the six batters he faced in two perfect IPs. Adam Champion allowed 2ER in 1.1IP, Mike Ness allowed an unearned run, Brandt Walker walked two of the four batters he faced, and then Belliard and De Leon came in to "close it out." Corpus scored the final four runs of the game, but it wasn't enough as NW Arkansas defeats the Hooks 10-9. Sam Gervacio threw a perfect inning in his second rehab appearance. The Express were 0x10 w/RISP, and Collin DeLome was your only source of multiple hits, Jason Castro was 0x3 with 2BB and an RBI (and is now hitting .216), and Matt Kata collected an RBI double.

Round Rock

The Zephyrs never stood a chance. Round Rock jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, and tacked on four more on their way to a 9-1 win. Maybe they should hold on to Berkman. Josh Banks continued his impressive start to the 2010 season, throwing 6.2IP, 7H/1ER, 3K:0BB, and the lone run coming off a home run by Danny Richar. T.J. Burton finished it off with 2.1IP of 0H/0ER, 1K:1BB relief. Again, the big story was the presence of Lance Berkman in the lineup. He was 3x4 with two doubles and a homer (2RBI and three runs scored). Matt Kata was 3x4, and Edwin Maysonet, Brian Bogusevic, Collin DeLome, and Jason Castro all had two hits, as well. DeLome's two hits were both of the kind in which the ball leaves the bat, and doesn't come down until it has cleared the fence.

Man of the Match: Since I refuse to give a MotM to a major-leaguer on a rehab assignment, this goes to Collin DeLome and his 2HR/4RBI day.

Corpus Christi

Erick Abreu and C-Lo ruined a perfectly good start by Fernando Abad, and the Hooks lost 3-1. Abad threw 5IP, 6H/0ER, 2K:1BB (ERA: 0.90), and a balk. Erick Abreu and C-Lo threw the next 3IP, allowing 4H/3ER, 0K:2BB before Matt Nevarez threw a blank IP. The Hooks only got four hits - two from Marcos Cabral and one each from Jack Shuck and Brian Esposito, who also had the only XBH - a triple.

JetHawks pitchers Kyle Greenwalt and David Berner threw a gem yesterday, but errors made the game closer than necessary, though the JetHawks prevailed 4-2.
