OKC put Round Rock back in third place in the division with a 6-3 win at Dell Diamond. Bobby Doran allowed 6H/3ER, 3K:2BB (3HR); Rhiner Cruz (0.2IP) and Eric Berger (1.1IP) each walked one batter, Hector Ambriz allowed the tying run to come to the plate with a hit and a walk, but got his 3rd save of the season.

George Springer (2B, BB, SB, RBI), Brandon Laird (RBI), Jon Singleton (RBI), Japhet Amador (RBI), Rene Garcia (2B), and Raoul Torrez (2B) had two hits each.

Corpus (36-25, 2GB), 78-53 overall

2nd-half division leaders San Antonio jumped all over Corpus in a 10-2 win in which San Antonio only outhit Corpus 13-12. Ruben Alaniz threw 3.2IP, 11H/10R (6ER), 4K:2BB; Kyle Hallock allowed 2H/0ER, 2K:0BB in 3.1IP; Theron Geith retired all three batters in the 8th.

Erik Castro was 3x5 with a double, homer, both runs scored, and an RBI; Leo Heras (BB) and Preston Tucker had two hits each.

Lancaster (38-23, 8.0 up) 77-54 overall

Lancaster had an 8-2 lead after four innings, and tacked on two more for a 10-2 win over Rancho Cucamonga. Brady Rodgers threw 6IP, 5H/2ER, 8K:2BB; Tommy Shirley, Blair Walters (1H), and Michael Dimock struck out a batter in an inning of relief each.

Delino DeShields and Andrew Aplin (SB) were each 3x5, MP Cokinos was 2x5 with 3RBI. Brandon Meredith was 1x2 with a two-run homer and three walks. Chris Epps drew two walks.

Oklahoma City (77-57), 7.0 up

A 2-0 Round Rock lead evaporated as OKC scored the final four runs of the game in a 4-2 win that pushed the division lead back to 7.0 games with ten to play. Asher Wojciechowski threw 6.2IP, 7H/2ER, 6K:1BB; Wade LeBlanc and Jason Stoffel each got two outs and Jorge De Leon closed it out with a perfect 9th inning.

George Springer hit his 18th home run - a two-run shot - for OKC (37HR/41SB on the season); Jimmy Paredes was 2x4 with a double, Jon Singleton was 1x3 with a walk and his first stolen base for Oklahoma City. Trevor Crowe added his third homer for OKC.

Corpus (37-23, 1.0 GB) 78-52 overall

Midland had a 3-1 lead heading into the 6th, but the Hooks chipped away, tying it up in the 7th. Ryan McCurdy started the bottom of the 9th with a walk, Ronald Torreyes bunted him over to second, Enrique Hernandez was intentionally walked, and then Leo Heras drew a walk to load the bases for Erik Castro, who knocked a single up the middle for the walk-off 4-3 Corpus win. Mike Foltynewicz struggled with some control, allowing 4H/3ER, 4K:4BB in 4.2IP; Carlos Quevedo inherited a bases-loaded jam in the 5th, but emerged unscathed; Alex Sogard threw 2.2IP, 1H/0ER, 1K:1BB and Jonas Dufek got the final out of the 9th.

Oklahoma City (76-57), 6.0 up

Well. A 3-1 lead in the 6th evaporated when an OKC error and an apparently missed call led to a 10-run Round Rock 6th who went on to win 12-3. Paul Clemens gave up 6H/8R (7ER), 4K:2BB, 2HBP in 5IP; Jose Cisnero allowed 3H/3ER (as well as two of Clemens' runs), 1K:1BB in 1IP; Rhiner Cruz allowed a walk and struck out two in 1IP and Pat Urckfitz gave up 2H/1ER in 1IP.

The RedHawks were held to five hits - two from Brandon Laird (HR/2RBI) and another homer from Marc Krauss. George Springer was 0x2 with two walks and his 40th and 41st stolen bases of the season.

Lancaster never trailed in this one, and enjoyed a 6-run 9th inning in a 12-4 win at Lake Elsinore. Mike Hauschild threw a strong start, going 7IP, 7H/2ER, 2K:2BB; Jordan Jankowski walked one in 1IP and Travis Ballew allowed a 2-run homer in the 9th.

Wet grounds forced the postponement of the Tri-City at Vermont game.

Greeneville (34-26) 0.5 GB

Now that. That hurts. Up 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th at 25-32 Danville (who were just 11-14 at home coming into the game), the Braves score three with two out in the bottom of the 9th. A pop-up single to short dropped in, a single to left put runners on 2nd and 3rd and a fielding error by 3B Parker Hipp loaded the bases, which were promptly cleared with a walk-off triple. The real heartbreaker? Six of the seven Danville runs were unearned. Danville wins 7-6 and the Gastros fall to a half-game back of Kingsport.

Enderson Franco allowed 7H/4R (1ER), 4K:1BB in 3IP; Sebastian Kessay (3H) and Austin Chrismon (1H) threw two scoreless innings; Raul Rivera gets the BS/L with 4H/3R (0ER) in 1.2IP.

The GCL Astros got the better of the GCL Yankees1 yesterday, letting a 3-1 lead turn into a 5-3 deficit before responding for a 7-6 win. Javier Lozano allowed 5H/3ER, 4K:1BB in 3.2IP; Samil De Los Santos allowed a hit and a walk to the two batters he faced (scoring to runs charged to Lozano), Jorge Perez allowed 5H/2ER, 3K:1BB while Justin Hess got his first professional win with 2H/0ER, 3K:1BB in 1.1IP.

Alex Gonzalez and Yonathan Mejia (RBI) two hits each; Jose Fernandez was 1x4 with a triple and 2RBI. Mesac Laguna had 2RBI and a stolen base.

The RedHawks dropped their fourth straight game (and are 1-5 on this eight-game road trip) in a 13-6 loss at Tucson. Asher Wojciechowski allowed 8H/7R (6ER), 4K:2BB, WP, HBP in 5IP; Rhiner Cruz gave up 2H/3ER, 0K:1BB; Wade LeBlanc threw 1.2IP, allowing one of Rhiner Cruz's runs in an odd 0H/0ER, 0K:0BB outing. Jose Cisnero gave up 4H/3ER, 2K:1BB and Pat Urckfitz got the last out of the game.

Trevor Crowe (2B) and Brandon Laird had three hits each; Carlos Perez was 2x4 with an RBI; George Springer was 1x4 with his 13th homer for OKC (32nd overall) with a walk and two strikeouts. Jon Singleton was 1x4 with a double, RBI, BB.

NW Arkansas scored the final eight runs of the game in a 10-1 beatdown of Corpus. NW Arkansas' Lane Adams had three homers and 7RBI, so that didn't help anything. Mike Foltynewicz allowed 6H/3ER, 2K:3BB in 5.1IP; Theron Geith gave up 2H/2ER, 1K:1BB in 1IP and Cameron Lamb allowed 5H/5ER, 0K:3BB, 2HR in the final 1.2IP.

Preston Tucker (2B, BB), Erik Castro (RBI) and Jonathan Meyer (2B, BB) had two hits each. And that's pretty much all there is to say about losing 10-1 with nine hits, two doubles, and a 1x11 w/RISP night.

Lancaster let a 4-0 lead get to 4-4 in the top of the 5th, but came back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, going on to beat Inland Empire 11-5.  Luis Cruz allowed 7H/4ER, 8K:1BB in 7IP; Kenny Long allowed 3H/1ER, 2K:0BB.

Dan Gulbransen was 3x5 with a double and a three-run homer to finish with 4RBI; Nolan Fontana was 1x4 with a walk and a grand slam. Delino DeShields was 2x5 with a double, RBI, and his 43rd stolen base of the season. Jesse Wierzbicki was 0x2 but drew three walks.

Mark Appel had a rough start as Wisconsin got out to 7-0 lead after four innings, beating Quad Cities 9-1. Appel gave up 9H/7ER, 2K:0BB in what was easily his worst start of his young career. Mitchell Lambson allowed 2H/0ER, 3K:1BB in 3.2IP and Jamaine Cotton allowed two unearned runs in the 8th and 9th.

Austin Elkins got two of the River Bandits' four hits, with a double and an RBI. Danry Vasquez was 1x4 with an outfield assist.

Last night was the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, in which the ValleyCats played for the National League team to keep the leagues balanced at seven teams each (how's that for irony?). The American League won 4-3. The ValleyCats' Michael Feliz threw a perfect inning, striking out two; Chris Cotton allowed 1H/1ER, 1K:0BB in 1IP. Chan Moon was 1x2 with a run scored.

Greeneville (33-19), 3.5 up

Greeneville had a 2-1 lead after an inning and a half, and then Johnson City went off and scored nine of the next ten runs in a 10-3 win over the Gastros. Frederick Tiburcio allowed 9H/6ER, 2K:2BB in 3IP; Kevin Ferguson allowed 5H/4ER, 1K:1BB, 2HR in 2IP; Christian Garcia (2IP) and Ryan Connolly (1IP) each had scoreless outings.

A 4-3 lead turned into a GCL Astros' 6-4 loss to the GCL Tigers yesterday. Kent Emanuel threw 2IP, 1H/0ER (running his three-game pro career to 6IP, 6H/0ER, 4K:0BB). Austin Nicely had a 3.1IP, 3H/4ER, 3K:4BB outing. Devonte German took the BS/L with 2H/1ER, 0K:1BB in 0.2IP; Justin Hess allowed 3H/1ER in 1.1IP and Javier Lozano got the final two outs of the game.

Oklahoma City (69-53), 3.0 up

OKC had a 3-0 lead in the 4th inning, but Las Vegas answered with two in the 4th and two more in the 5th for a 4-3 win over the RedHawks. David Martinez made his Triple-A debut, and he allowed 7H/4ER, 3K:5BB in 4.1IP, leaving the bases loaded for Wade LeBlanc who allowed one of those runners to score on one hit, but struck out four in 1.2IP. Jose Cisnero struck out two batters and Pat Urckfitz threw a hitless 8th inning.

Marwin Gonzalez was 2x4, Jon Singleton was 1x2 with a double, two walks, and an RBI. Jose Martienz provided a double and an RBI.

Corpus (30-20, 1GB), 72-48 overall

Arkansas' Randal Grichuk pretty much beat the Hooks by himself, going 4x4 with a double, 2HR, a walk, and 5RBI in a 7-4 Arkansas win over Corpus. Kyle Hallock allowed 4H/4R (3ER), 3K:3BB in 4IP; Alex Sogard gave up 4H/3ER, 0K:2BB in 2IP; and Carlos Quevedo allowed 1H/0ER, 2K:1BB in 3IP.

Domingo Santana (2RBI) and Erik Castro (BB, RBI) each had two hits - and each of them hit a home run. That's the 2nd consecutive game with a HR for Castro. Ronald Torreyes  and Drew Muren each had a walk and an RBI.

High Desert had a 6-3 lead at the end of the 3rd, but the JetHawks scored the next six runs, and withstood a rally in the bottom of the 9th for a 9-8 win over High Desert. Colton Cain allowed 7H/6R (5ER), 6K:2BB in 6IP; Gera Sanchez struck out three and allowed two hits in 2IP, and Travis Ballew got his 19th save despite giving up 2H/2ER, 2K:1BB in the 9th.

Carlos Perdromo was 3x5 with a three-run homer on a 4RBI day; Jesse Wierzbicki was 3x5 with a double; Tyler Heineman was 2x3 with a double, walk, RBI; Dan Gulbransen hit his first High-A homer, and Joe Sclafani was 1x4 with a triple and a walk.

Quad Cities got three runs in the 3rd, and that was all they needed in a 5-0 shutout win over Wisconsin that included a Triple Play in the top of the 7th - the second Triple Play of the season for Quad Cities. Brian Holmes threw 6IP, allowing just 3H/0ER, 7K:1BB; Zach Morton gave up 2H/0ER, 0K:1BB in 2IP and Juan Minaya allowed a hit in 1IP.

Four big innings for Tri-City sunk Jamestown and the immaculately-named Dovydas Neverauskas in an 11-5 ValleyCats win. Evan Grills improved to 5-0 with 5IP, 5H/3ER, 3K:2BB; Charles Basford (1IP) and Kevin Comer (2IP) each allowed 1H/1ER and a walk for each inning pitched. Andrew Walter struck out two in the 9th.

James Ramsay (2B, BB), Tyler White (2RBI), Ronnie Mitchell (BB, RBI), and Adam Nelubowich (2B) each had two hits on the day. Conrad Gregor had a hit and a walk. Chan Moon drew two walks and stole his 9th base of the season.

Well. OKC turned a 4-1 lead into a 9-4 loss as Round Rock got themselves eight runs in the top of the 9th to re-open a one-game lead on OKC (and knock them to 3rd place, with Albuquerque in between RR and OKC). Asher Wojciechowki pitched very well, allowing 4H/1ER, 8K:2BB in 6IP; Eric Berger allowed a hit and a walk with 2K in 1.2IP; Then Jose Valdez happened, allowing 7H/7ER in 1IP and Philip Humber gave up a 2-run homer before getting the last out of the game.

Jonathan Villar was 3x5 with two solo homers; Brett Wallace was 3x4 with a double. Jon Singleton - making his Triple-A debut - was 2x4 with two doubles and a strikeout; Justin Maxwell and Brandon Laird each had solo home runs.

San Antonio never trailed in this one as they cruised to a 7-2 win over Corpus. Jake Buchanan got his first loss of the season, allowing 10H/6ER, 3K:1BB in 5.2IP; Matt Heidenreich pitched in an out of trouble, allowing four hits and two walks in 2.1IP, with just one run crossing the plate. Kenny Long gave up a hit and walked a batter, but threw a scoreless 9th.

It was 5-0 Fresno before OKC got their first run. And then it was 8-1 Fresno before they got their 2nd. Fresno wins 10-3. Asher Wojciechowski got smoked, allowing 10H/8R (7ER), 4K:0BB, 3HR. Six of the eight runs scored during Wojciechowski's five innings came off the long ball. Phil Humber allowed 2H/2ER, 1K:1BB, 1HR, HBP in 2IP; Alex Sogard allowed a hit and a walk in 1IP.

Now this game was just stupid. Here were the leads Corpus had: 4-1, 7-2, 9-6, and it was 11-10 Hooks heading into the bottom of the 8th at Midland. But Midland scored nine runs in the bottom of the 8th for a 19-11 win over Corpus. Four errors didn't help. Ruben Alaniz allowed 6H/6R (2ER), 4K:2BB in 4IP; Jorge De Leon allowed 3H/4ER, 0K:1BB in 0.1IP; Pat Urckfitz allowed 3H/0ER, 1K:3BB in 2.2IP; Andrew Robinson allowed 2H/3ER, 0K:1BB without recording an out; Our Boy Kenny Long has had a rough go of Double-A, allowing 2H/5R (4ER), 0K:2BB in 0.1IP; and Matt Heidenreich allowed an unearned run in the final 0.2IP.

Quad Cities struck first, but Beloit scored the final four runs of the game for a 4-1 win over the River Bandits. Teoscar Hernandez got the only River Bandits hit of the game, stole a base, and Rio Ruiz sac'ed him home. Ruiz and Jordan Scott also drew walks. Carlos Correa's ten-game hitting streak is now over.

Oklahoma City (25-17)

OKC earned the road split with Sacramento with a 9-3 win on a Sunday afternoon in which the RedHawks never trailed. Brad Peacock got his first win with OKC after throwing 5IP, 4H/2R (1ER), 5K:4BB; Jason Stoffel walked one and hit one batter in his inning of work; Kevin Chapman allowed 1H/1ER, 0K:2BB, and Rhiner Cruz walked two batters but gave up no runs in the final 2IP.

Every RedHawk hitter got a hit, with Fernando Martinez (2B, 2RBI, BB) and Che-Hsuan Lin (SB) leading the way with two hits each. Brandon Laird, Raoul Torrez (RBI) and Jason Jaramillo (2B, 2RBI) had a hit and a walk each.

Corpus (25-18)

Corpus overcame a 2-0 1st inning deficit by scoring the next five runs in a 5-3 win over Midland. David Martinez threw 5IP, allowing 2H/2ER, 6K:1BB, and 40 of his 62 pitches for strikes. Josh Fields continued his rehab with 1H/0ER in 1IP and Mike Foltynewicz finished off the final 3IP with 3H/1R (0ER) 3K:2BB, and 64 pitches. Foltynewicz's ERA at Corpus now stands at 1.13.

Despite hitting four home runs and out-hitting Rancho Cucamonga 13-11, the JetHawks lost 11-7. Brady Rodgers allowed 4H/3ER, 4K:1BB in 5IP; Chris Devenski gave up 4H/4ER, 4K:1BB in 3IP. Travis Ballew allowed four unearned runs with three hits and a walk. Jonas Dufek got the final out.

Matt Duffy committed the error that led to said four unearned runs, but went 3x5 with a solo homer; Delino DeShields hit his first homer of the season on his way to a 3RBI game; Joe Sclafani was 2x3 with two walks and two stolen bases; Tyner Heineman was 2x3 with a homer and two walks; and Chris Epps was 2x3 with a walk. Telvin Nash hit his sixth homer of the season.

Brandon Laird (H, R, RBI, SB) reached on an error by Tacoma shortstop Carlos Triunfel. Andrew Simunic (H, SB) singled with 2 outs in the inning and scored Laird from 2nd base. The Redhawks plated 2 more in the bottom of the 6th. Jake Elmore (H, R) singled with 2 outs in the inning. Brett Wallace (2H, R, 2B, RBI, K) followed with a double to left, scoring Elmore from first. Brandon Laird drove home Wallace with a single to left for the final Redhawk run of the game. Jonathan Villar had 2 hits and 2 stolen bases. Frisco put up 3 runs in the top of the 7th but Corpus answered with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Domingo Santana a (H, R, 2B, 2K) led off with his eight double of the season. Michael Burgess (R, BB, 2K) walked with 2 outs in the inning. Zach Johnson (R, BB, 2K) loaded the bases with a walk of his own. Erik Castro reached on a fielding error by Frisco left fielder Chih-Hsien Chiang. Chiang's error allowed Santana, Burgess, and Johnson all to score. Jiovanni Mier had a hit and was caught stealing. Rene Garcia had a hit and struck out once. George Springer went 0 for 3 with 3 K's.

The Jethawks broke out for 10 runs on 12 hits in a 10-4 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Jethawks had their foot on the gas from the get go, scoring in 5 consecutive innings. Joe Sclafani (2H, R, RBI) singled to with one out in the 1st. Sclafani reached second after an errant throw on a pick off attempt, and would reach 3rd on an Andrew Aplin (3H, 2R, 2B, RBI, SB) ground out. With MP Cokinos (H, 2RBI, BB) at the plate, Sclafani scored on a wild pitch. In the 2nd Tyler Heineman (2H, R, 2B, K) doubled with one out in the inning. Chris Epps (H, R, HR, 3RBI) hit his 2nd homer on the season scoring Heineman. In the 3rd Andrew Aplin singled with one out in the inning. Aplin reached 3rd after a stolen base and a passed ball. Aplin would score on a sac fly off the bat of MP Cokinos. The Jethawks kept it going in the 4th. Telvin Nash (H, 2R, HR, 2RBI, BB, K) walked to lead off the inning. Matt Duffy (H, R, BB, K) singled to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Nash scored on a Chris Epps sac fly. Nolan Fontana (H, R, K) singled to right and the Jethawks had runners on the corners again. Joe Sclafani singled to right and scored Duffy. Fontana would score on an Andrew Aplin single to left. In the 5th Telvin Nash hit his 3rd home run, a solo shot to center. After 5 the Jethawks led 9-3, and would add one more in the 8th. Andrew Aplin scored the final Jethawk run of the game on a MP Cokinos single.

PreStros Playoff Recap: September 6

Corpus Christi

You gotta be kidding me. As if it's not bad enough to lose to a team with a condom for its mascot, the Hooks (and maybe manager Keith Bodie) blew it (the game, not a condom) for Frisco's second-straight walkoff, taking a 2-0 series lead with a 3-2 win over Corpus.

The thing that gets me is that Rob Rasmussen was straight dealing. 7IP, 5H/0ER, 2K:3BB, 93 pitches (54 for strikes). But Keith Bodie pulled him to start the 8th with a 2-0 lead, and things started to unravel almost immediately. With Kevin Chapman on the mound, Leury Garcia reached on Ben Orloff's fielding error, Chris McGuinness then doubled to score Leury Garcia, bringing the game to 2-1 Corpus. Chapman got a strikeout, then allowed the tying run on base with a walk. Jason Stoffel was then brought in, who gave up the game-tying run with a single to the first batter he faced. Stoffel got the last two outs of the inning with swinging strikeouts.

Stoffel remained on the mound for the 9th, where he walked leadoff batter Guilder Rodriguez. Engel Beltre sac bunted him over to second, after which Rodriguez inexplicably tried - and failed - to steal third base. Problem over, right? No. Dadgum Leury Garcia (I swear that guy is up to bat every other time) blasted a walk-off homer over the right field wall.

Andy Simunic was 2x4 with a triple and an RBI, while Chris "Big Poppa" Wallace was 2x4 with a double. Austin Wates had the other RBI. Jon Singleton was 0x4 with 3Ks.

The Best-of-Three is going to a third game as the JetHawks took Game 2 from Lake Elsinore with a huge four-run 8th inning for a 5-1 win. We have picked up the option on our Man-Crush on Nick Tropeano for 2013 after he threw 6IP, 3H/1ER, 6K:2BB. The bullpen of Pat Urckfitz (1H), Chia-Jen Lo (2BB) and Kenny Long allowed 1H/0ER, 4K:2BB in the final 3IP.

Jio Mier (2B), Erik Castro (2 doubles - including a clutch two-run double that broke open the 8th), Chris Epps (2B), and Roberto Pena (RBI) each had two hits. Domingo Santana was 0x1, but drew three walks - the only three walks Lake Elsinore pitching allowed.

Arcenio Leon gave up 1 H and 1 BB to the only two batters he faced, allowing the two runs charged to Chapman. Erick Abreu pitched the final 1.1 innings with 2 K for the save, his first of the season.
