Lancaster
Pitcher Robby Donovan was placed on the 7-Day DL, effective July 30.

Eddie's Farm: June 9

Oklahoma City (25-35)

OKC got out to a 4-0 lead after four innings, and then held on for a 4-3 win at Omaha. Nelson Figueroa threw 6.1IP, 8H/2ER, 6K:2BB; Fernando Abad struck out both batters he faced; Ross Wolf allowed 1H/1ER, 1K:1BB in 1IP, while David Carpenter has yet to allow an earned run at OKC, striking out one in 1IP and recording his 4th save of the year.

Brian Bogusevic (2B) and Drew Locke (2B, 3RBI) had two hits each, while Tommy Manzella was 0x2 with 2BB. Koby Clemens, hitting 6th, was 1x3 with a walk.

Man of the Match: I refuse to give it to Nelson Figueroa. So, Drew Locke.

Corpus (21-37)

Corpus had a 3-0 lead in the 5th, but gave up six of the next seven runs in a 6-4 loss to Midland. Ross Seaton gave up 5H/5R (3ER), 4K:2BB in 6IP; Blake King allowed 1H/1ER, 0K:1BB in 1IP (and has allowed runs in his last three outings, out of four, since coming over from the Cardinals' organization). Patrick Urckitz gave up a hit and a walk in 0.1IP, and Matt Nevarez got two quick outs to end the game.

The story of the Hooks has become Jose Altuve - who was 2x4 with a solo homer - and is hitting .438/.455/.750 since coming up from Lancaster. Johnathan Villar was 1x4 with a double, walk, and 2RBI (and an error). T.J. Steele hit his 4th homer. J.D. Martinez was 0x4 with a strikeout and is hitting .243/.317/.243 in his last ten games.

Man of the Match: Jose Altuve

Lancaster (24-35)

Inland Empire got out to a 3-0 lead, and Lancaster couldn't make up the difference, for a 3-2 loss. Robby Donovan threw 6IP, 6H/3R (2ER), 7K:1BB, unfortunately getting the loss and dropping to 2-7. Wander Alvino threw the final 2IP, allowing 1H/0ER, 0K:1BB.

Johnathan Meyer was 2x4 with a solo homer and 2RBI, with Jay Austin, Erik Castro (BB), Austin Wates, Kody Hinze, and pinch-hitter Andy Simunic each adding a hit.

Man of the Match: Robby Donovan

Lexington (28-32)

The Lexington bullpen - assisted by the defense - imploded last night, allowing the final six runs of the game in the eighth and ninth innings to lose 8-7 at home to Hickory. Mike Foltynewicz allowed 6H/2ER, 2K:3BB in 6IP; Brian Streilein allowed 4H/2R (1ER) in 2IP, while Jorge De Leon allowed 3H/4R (0ER), 1K:1BB in 1IP. Errors by Ray King, two from Mike Kvasnicka, and Delino DeShields helped all of that.

Jiovanni Mier was 3x6 with two doubles, Adam Bailey was 3x4 with a double, walk, and 2RBI; Roberto Pena was 2x4 with a double and a homer.

Man of the Match: Jiovanni Mier

DSL Astros (5-3)

The Astros were down 3-1, but got four late runs for a 5-3 win against the DSL Yankees2. Agapito Barrios threw 6IP, 5H/3ER, 4K:0BB; Jandel Gustave walked four in 1+IP but emerged otherwise unscathed; while Yeudy Perdomo threw 2IP, 0H/0ER, 2K:1BB, getting the win.

Juan Santana (2BB), Darwin Rivera (RBI), Franny Polanco (RBI), and Jose Solano (RBI) had two hits each.

Man of the Match: Juan Santana

More on that JetHawks no-hitter

Nice write-up at MiLB on the JetHawks' no-hitter against Lake Elsinore last night.

Starting Pitcher Robby Donovan:
"My fastball was working real well. I was locating it really well. I had a few good changeups...Actually, I was tired as hell at the end. I was just dead. I walked those two guys at the end, but I felt good the whole time before that." "

David Carpenter:
We were looking up at the scoreboard and saw that big fat zero up on the board. He threw really, really well and set the tone for the entire game. He came out there and did his job. It wasn't really the pressure of keeping a no-hitter alive as much as keeping runs off the board. It was a tie game when I came in with runners on second and third."

Eddie's Farm: August 25

Round Rock

Memphis took a 3-0 lead into the 6th, and the Express' attempt to mount a rally fizzled. Memphis wins 3-1. Andy Van Hekken threw 6IP, 9H/3ER, 6K:3BB while Chris Sampson and Casey Daigle allowed a hit and struck one out each. The Express only got five hits - two from Edwin Maysonet, and one each from Bellorin, Van Hekken, and an RBI pinch-hit double from German Duran. 1-6 in the order: 0x20, 7K:4BB (2BB from Shuck).

Man of the Match: Edwin Maysonet

Corpus

You won't win too many games allowing nine runs in an inning. And that's exactly what the Hooks did, with Midland getting nine in the 4th and rolling to a 10-3 win over Corpus. Bubbie Buzachero got the start, allowing 5H/6ER, 2K:3BB, and a balk in 3IP. Three of those runs were courtesy of Arcenio Leon, who allowed 3H/4ER of his own, with 3K:3BB. Evan Englebrook (2IP) and Jailen Peguero (1IP) allowed one hit in the final three innings. Federico Hernandez was 2x3 with a homer and 2RBI, and David Cook hit a solo homer in the 7th, finishing the night 1x3 with a walk.

Man of the Match: Federico Hernandez

Lancaster

Only Lancaster could throw a no-hitter, and still need extra innings to win. Lake Elsinore was blanked in the hits column, but got a run in the 8th, forcing the game to the 10th where the JetHawks put it away for a 3-1 no-no. Five pitchers combined for the feat. Robby Donovan threw 5.2IP, 4K:2BB and got the first 17 Storm batters before walking two straight batters. Edwin Walker walked one in 1.1IP. David Berner made things interesting in the 8th, walking Jesus Lopez, committing a throwing error on a sac bunt by Robert Lara, then making another throwing error on Brad Chalk's sac bunt, scoring Jesus Lopez. With the bases loaded, David Carpenter got a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning. Carpenter pitched the next inning, and Jose Trinidad preserved the no-no in the 10th. Final Tally for JetHawk pitchers: 10IP, 0H/1R (0ER), 9K:6BB. David Flores was 2x4 with a solo homer (2RBI on the night), and Bryce Lane - hitting a robust .316 in his short time at Lancaster - was 2x4 with a double and an RBI. Flores and Lane provided the RBIs in the 10th.

Man of the Match: Robby Donovan

Lexington

Jeebus. Lexington scored the first run of the game, and then allowed the next 13 for a 13-1 loss to Kannapolis. Zach Grimmett allowed 7H/9ER, 1K:4BB, 2WP in 3.2IP. Mike Schurz walked four (one hit) in 2.1IP, and Dan Sarisky allowed 7H/4R (3ER), 2K:0BB in 2IP. Grant Hogue was 2x3, and Jiovanni Mier, Kody Hinze (RBI), Ben Heath, Jonathan Meyer, and Renzo Tello had your other hits.

Man of the Match: Jiovanni Mier

Tri-City

Tri-City continued Lexington's trend of scoring early, and then getting blasted. Taking a 2-0 lead in the 2nd, Hudson Valley scored 10 of the next 11 runs for a 10-3 win over the ValleyCats. Jake Buchanan allowed 11H/5ER, 4K:0BB in 3.1IP. Murillo Gouvea (2IP, 1H/1ER, 4K:1BB), Adam Champion (0.2IP, 1H/2ER), and John Frawley (2IP, 4H/2ER) all gave up runs in relief. ValleyCats pitchers hit three batters. Ben Orloff was 1x2 with an RBI and two walks; Dan Adamson was 1x3 with a walk and an outfield assist, and Buck Afenir, Adam Bailey, and Jacke Healey (RBI) provided the other hits.

Man of the Match: Ben Orloff

Greeneville

Danville opened up a can on Greeneville, collecting 21 hits in a 10-1 win over the Gastros. Euris Quezada allowed 9H/7ER, 2K:0BB, WP, Balk, HBP in 4.1IP, Rodney Quintero gave up four hits and a walk, (and two runs charged to Quezada) in 1.2IP. Angel Gonzalez allowed 6H/3ER in 2IP, and Justin Harper gave up 2H/0ER in 1IP. Rafael Valenzuela was 2x4 with an RBI, and Delino DeShields (SB), Telvin Nash, Ricardo Garcia (3BB), Ryan Humphrey, and Hector Rodriguez each had hits.

Man of the Match: Ricardo Garcia

Round Rock

Round Rock showed some fight last night in an 11-4 win over Sacramento. Sacramento scored runs in four separate innings, and Round Rock answered in three of those innings. Yorman Bazardo threw 6.1IP, 7H/4ER, 7K:2BB, Fernando Abad allowed 2H (2K) in 1IP, and Jonah Bayliss got tagged with 3H/3ER, 1K:1BB in 1.2IP. Drew Locke was 2x4 with a three-run homer and 4RBI, Collin DeLome was 2x5 with a homer - both hitting their 13th homers of the season. Matt Kata was 3x3, and Jack Shuck (RBI, BB), Wladimir Sutil (RBI), and Oswaldo Navarro had two hits each.

Man of the Match: Drew Locke

Corpus

Corpus answered from 1-0 down to take a 3-1 lead, and held on to beat Midland 3-2. Dallas Keuchel is starting to find his rhythm, throwing 7.2IP, 8H/2ER, 7K:1BB. Jeilen Peguero walked two in 1.1IP, but got his 3rd save of the season. Koby Clemens was 3x3, Jon Gaston hit his 9th homer of the year, and Tommy Manzella was 2x3 with an RBI.

Man of the Match: Dallas Keuchel

Lancaster

Lancaster took a 2-0 lead into the 7th, but ended up dropping to Lake Elsinore 5-2. Robby Donovan allowed 3H/0ER, 9K:5BB in 6IP. Mike Modical allowed 3H/3R (2ER), 1K:1BB in 0.1IP, and Kyle Godfrey allowed 1H/2R (1ER), 1K:1BB in 1.2UP. First of all on offense, big props to Jay Austin, who was 1x3 with a triple - his 11th - and a stolen base - his 50th. Lee Cruz was 1x4 with a triple and an RBI, and John Curtis hit his 2nd homer of the season.

Man of the Match: Robby Donovan

Lexington

Despite the fact that Delmarva only got five hits, and committed three errors, the Legends still lost 2-1. Luis Cruz dominated with 7IP, 2H/0ER, 4K:3BB. Wander Alvino allowed a hit in 1IP, and Kirk Clark gets the blown save and the loss with 2H/2ER in 0.1IP as Delmarva walks off. Jiovanni Mier (RBI) and Jimmy Paredes were each 3x5. Jonathan Meyer drew two walks and got a hit. Our Boy Aaron Bray was 1x4. Call-up Ben Heath got the start, hitting 5th, and went 0x3 with a walk.

Man of the Match: Jiovanni Mier

Tri-City

The ValleyCats got out in front early and held on for a 4-1 win over State College. David Martinez threw 5IP, 4H/0ER, 7K:2BB for the win. Travis Blankenship allowed 3H/1ER, 3K:0BB in 1.2IP. Jason Chowning walked one in 1.1IP, and Mike Ness got his 6th save of the year. Dan Adamson (2RBI), Jacke Healey (2B), and Frank Almonte (2B, RBI) had two hits each, and Ben Orloff (2SB) added another RBI.

Man of the Match: Dan Adamson

Greeneville

Down 3-0, Greeneville got two back in the sixth, but they couldn't get the tying run, and lost 3-2 to Kingsport. Ruben Alaniz allowed 6H/3ER, 5K:0BB in 6IP, and Paul Gerrish gave up 2H/0ER in 2IP. Marcus Nidiffer and Telvin Nash (RBI) had two hits each, Chris Wallace was 1x2 with 2BB.

Man of the Match: Telvin Nash

Eddie's Farm Employees of the Month!

I know it's June 3, but I've been busy getting sunburned. And now that we're back at it, it's time to name the Eddie's Farm Employees of the Month for May.

Round Rock

Position Player: Jason Bourgeois. This could have been between a few players (Johnson, Bogusevic, Castro, etc), but how do you not give it to a guy who hit .387/.421/.571 over 29 games in May? He only struck out 12 times in 119 ABs, and hit 13 extra-base hits.

Pitcher: Casey Daigle. Daigle pitched in 15.2IP (14 games) in May, allowing 3ER with 13K:3BB, posting a 1.72 ERA/1.15 WHIP.

Corpus

Position Player: Jack Shuck. Shuck hit .317/.388/.423, with 15K:12BB in 28 games for the Hooks in May.

Pitcher: This was down to Arguello, Lyles, and Lumsden. But ultimately, Doug Arguello wins. Arguello went 4-1 with 8ER allowed in 36.1IP for a 1.98 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in May.

Lancaster

Position Player: Mark Ori. Ori followed up an April in which he hit .275/.375/.319 by hitting .352/.364/.438 and 20RBI.

Pitcher: Dallas Keuchel. In six May starts, Keuchel had a 3.29 ERA (over three runs/9 better than April) and a 1.28 WHIP.

Lexington

Position Player: J.D. Martinez. Hit .339/.411/.587 with 17 XBH-22RBI for the month. Posted a .940 OPS in April, and followed that up with a .998 OPS in May.

Pitcher: Robby Donovan. In 30IP in May, he was 3-1, allowing five earned runs for a 1.50 ERA/1.20 WHIP.

Monday, May 24, 2010

Eddie's Farm: May 23

Round Rock

Back-and-forth game between Round Rock and Reno, and ultimately it's Round Rock who comes out on top 5-4 on Bourgeois' walk-off triple. Weirdness on the pitching side, as Tim Byrdak threw the first inning (So he could join the team in Milwaukee?) and then turned it over to Andy Van Hekken, who threw 7IP, 7H/3R (2ER), 5K:0BB in relief, technically. Yorman Bazardo got the win, throwing 1IP, 1H/0ER. Jason Bourgeois was 2x5, and Matt Kata was 2x4 with 3RBI. Chris Johnson was 1x4 with a double and two runs scored. Bourgeois came up with Collin DeLome on first with one out, and hit a triple to center, scoring DeLome, and winning the game.

Man of the Match: Jason Bourgeois

Corpus

Corpus pulled a Houston yesterday, scoring four runs in the 1st inning, and losing anyway, 8-5. Jordan Lyles got lit up, giving up 9H/6ER, 5K:1BB in 6IP, while Henry Villar allowed 2ER in 3IP. Wladimir Sutil, T.J. Steele, and David Cook (3RBI) had two hits each - which were all the hits the Hooks got. The Hooks did draw nine walks on the day, but were 1x9 w/RISP.

Man of the Match: David Cook

Lancaster

Despite out-hitting High Desert 12-8, the JetHawks lost 7-3. Brad Dydalewicz threw 4.1IP, 6H/7R (5ER), 2K:4BB. Mike Schurz (2.2IP), Pat Urckfitz (1IP), and Kyle Godfrey (1IP) combined for 4.2IP, 2H/0ER, 5K:2BB. Albert Cartwright, Mark Ori, Federico Hernandez, and Brandon Wikoff had two hits each with Ori, Barnes, and Hernandez getting doubles, and Cartwright hitting his 4th homer of the season.

Man of the Match: Albert Cartwright

Lexington

Lexington put the whomp on Greensboro, 6-0, as the Legends got thirteen hits, held Greensboro to six, and let Greensboro make four errors. Robby Donovan improved to 4-3, holding Greensboro to 6H/0ER, 4K:2BB in 7IP. Arcenio Leon threw two scoreless innings, striking out three. Miguel Arrendell was 3x5, while J.D. Martinez, Our Boy Aaron Bray, Rene Garcia, and Grant Hogue had two hits each. RBIs came from Arrendell, Mier, Martinez, Bray, Kemp, and Hogue in a total team performance.

Man of the Match: Robby Donovan.

Season Total
K/9 Rate: 7.5
BB/9 Rate: 5.6
Groundout/Flyout Rate: 0.73
K:BB Ratio: 1.33

There are quite a few things to note here. Donovan's last four appearances of the season were games in which he started and, as you can see from the starter/reliever splits, he fared much better pitching out of the rotation. In his start against Staten Island on August 29, he struck out eight batters in 4IP - so that's nice. And despite an upside-down groundout/flyout ratio, Donovan didn't give up a homer all season long. Also, if you take out one of his appearances - on July 22 against Auburn in which he allowed three earned runs without recording an out - his ERA drops below 3.00. So get those walks under control, young Robby, and we'll see you in Lexington.

Eddie's Farm: September 3

Last weekend of the season for everyone in the minor-league system, and then they'll all go home, and having learned a lesson from Ed Wade about "rewards."

Round Rock
Albuquerque got a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th for a 5-4 win over Round Rock. Reggie Abercrombie and Lou Santangelo had three hits each - Santangelo connecting on his 4th homer of the year. Chris Johnson was 2x4, and the other three RBI came from Johnson, Saccomanno, and Yordany. Billy Sadler threw 2.2IP, 4H/2ER, 3K:1BB as he continues to tune-up for his call-up after Monday. Capellan threw 5.1IP, 5H/1ER, 2K:1BB, and Daigle took his 3rd loss of the season, giving up the game-winner in 0.2IP.

Corpus
Frisco got two runs in the 6th, providing the margin for a 3-2 win over Corpus. Collin DeLome and Mark Ori were both 2x4, with DeLome and Moresi getting the RBIs. Doug Arguello threw 3IP, 2H/1ER, 3K:1BB, while Weatherby took the loss, allowing the two runs on 4H, 4K:3BB in 4IP.

Lancaster
A 6-run first certainly helps, and the JetHawks used it to pace their way to a 14-8 win over High Desert. Steve Brown was 3x5 with 2HR/3RBI, 3 runs scored. The JetHawks also got multi-hit games from Shuck (2x4), Rosario (2x5), Gaston (2x4, 3-run homer), Weston (2x5, 1HR/3RBI), and Cabral (2x5, RBI). Tom Fairchild threw 5.2IP, 8H/7ER, 4K:2BB, and four homers allowed - but still got the win. Jose Duran and Pat Urckfitz threw 3.1IP, 2H/1ER, 6K:0BB to shut the High Desert offense down.

Lexington
The Legends gave up three in the 6th and two in the 7th in a 6-4 loss to Asheville. Albert Cartwright, Jay Austin, and Chris Jackson had two hits each. David Duncan threw 5.2IP, 6H/4R (2ER), 5K:0BB, and Michael Hacker threw 0.2IP, 1H/2R (0ER), 0K:2BB. Yep, a two-run loss, and three unearned runs on two errors (Duncan, Pellegrini).

Tri-City
And that's a 4-2 win over Vermont. Erik Castro and Rene Garcia had two hits each, J.D. Martinez hit a two-run homer, and Barry Butera and Nick Stanley provided the other RBI. Four pitchers were used - Robby Donovan threw 5IP, 7H/1ER, 1K:2BB, and it only got hairy for Mike Schurz, who threw 1IP, 4H/1ER, 1K. Dan Sarisky had 3Ks in his 2IP, and MacDonald got his 7th save of the season.

Eddie's Farm: July 12

Eddie's Farm goes 1-5 yesterday in a brutal string of games. Lexington was off, Tri-City played a double header..

Round Rock
Round Rock got dropped 3-1 in a loss at Nashville - and I'm really happy (dripping sarcasm, in case any Cubs fans are reading) I missed all of these games this time around. All of the scoring took place in the 2nd inning, and the Express managed just five hits, only one for extra bases - a triple of Mark Saccomanno. Yorman Bazardo pitched 6IP, 6H/3ER, 1K:1BB.

Corpus
Outhit Northwest Arkansas 11-5, but lost 5-1. Sutil, DeLome, and Einertson had multi-hit games, but again, only one extra base hit - a 9th inning RBI triple from Brian Esposito. New Hooks signee Kenny Baugh threw 6IP, 4H/4ER, 1K:1BB, and Tyler Lumsden lowered his ERA to 7.94 with 2IP, 1H/0ER, 3K.

Lancaster
Inland Empire jumped on the JetHawks with six runs in the first two innings, and then held on to win 8-5. Multi-hit games from Shuck (2x2 with three walks), Suarez, Gaston, Clemens, and David Flores gave the JetHawks a chance, but the pitching just wasn't there. Flores and Matt Weston connected for homers and the 1-2-3 of Shuck-Suarez-Gaston went a combined 6x11 with 1K:4BB and three extra-base hits. Chris Hicks got the loss with 2IP, 7H/4ER (6 total), 2K:2BB. Shane Wolf picked up the next five innings and held the 66ers to 5IP, 4H/1ER, 5K:0BB.
Lexington call-up Ashton Mowdy closed out the game with 2IP, 3H/1ER, 5K:0BB and 2WP.

Tri-City
In Game 1, the ValleyCats scraped only four hits in a 3-0 loss to Oneonta. Brian Kemp, of course, got one of those hits, and is now hitting .347 - the only starter in yesterday's game with an average over .250. Colton Pitkin threw a 7IP complete game, giving up 9H/3ER, 2K:0BB.

In Game 2, same score, but this time six hits for the ValleyCats in the 3-0 loss. Kemp got another hit, as did Wikoff, Russell Dixon (hitting .306), Erik Castro, J.D. Martinez, and Pedro Gonzalez. Robby Donovan took the loss with 3IP, 3H/1ER (3R total). J.B. MacDonald got 4Ks in 3IP.

Greeneville
And we finally have a winner for Eddie's Farm as Greeneville had a 12-2 lead at the end of three innings - including a 7-run 3rd inning - to win 13-7 against Pulaski. Jose Altuve was 3x5, Miguel Arrendell was 2x4 with a 3-run homer and Jiovanni Mier, Nathan Metroka, and Aaron Bray all had 2RBI for the Gastros. Mier is now hitting .317. B.J. Hyatt continues to have a rough go of it, with 6H/6ER in 3.2IP, to go along with 3BB and 2HR - his ERA is now 10.45. Angel Gonzalez got the win with 1ER in 4IP to lower his ERA to 14.73.

Eddie's Farm: June 22

Only Corpus and Tri-City played games last night, so let's take a look:

Corpus
Big time offensive game between Corpus and San Antonio last night, with the Missions scoring three runs in the 10th to win 12-10. Drew Locke did what Drew Locke does, getting three hits, including a two-run homer, while Jimmy Van Ostrand and Jason Castro also went yard. Locke, Van Ostrand, Castro, Florentino, DeLome and Moresi each had two hits in the loss. Pitcher Casey Hudspeth had a two-run single, but went 4IP, giving up 7H/6ER, 1K:3BB. Ryan McKeller threw the only perfect inning, while Van Hekken and Meszaros each gave up a run in 2IP. Chris Salamida gave up 4H/3ER, with 1BB in the 10th to suffer the loss. He has now given up 9ER in his last 4.2IP.

Tri-City
Tri-City endured some jitters, striking out 12 times, committing three errors in a 5-4 10-inning loss. Catcher Pedro Gonzalez was 2x4 with 2RBI, Russell Dixon was also 2x4. Hits from Barry Butera, Brandon Wikoff, and Jhonny Medrano also provided some offense that resulted in four runs in the top of the 9th. David Duncan gave up 3ER in 5.2IP, but struck out seven. Robby Donovan, with three walks and the unearned run, took the loss.
