Despite only getting out-hit 15-11, OKC dropped last night's game to Albuquerque 8-2, with the Isotopes getting five runs in the final two innings. Sergio Perez threw 5.2IP, 8H/3ER, 4K:3BB to get the loss, while Ross Wolf only allowed a hit in 1.1IP. Patrick Urckfitz got the Welcome to Triple-A, allowing 4H/4ER, 0K:2BB in his OKC debut, while Danny Meszaros allowed 2H/1ER, 2K:1BB in 1IP.

Anderson Hernandez (RBI) and Robinson Cancel had two hits each. Koby Clemens was 0x2, but with 2BB, and pitcher Sergio Perez got himself a triple. Tommy Manzella was 1x4 with a walk.

Corpus (24-41)

Corpus got three runs in the 7th to top Frisco 5-2. Erick Abreu threw 7IP, 3H/1ER, 7K:1BB with the lone ER coming on a solo homer. Bryce King allowed 1H/1ER, 0K:1BB in 1IP, and Kyle Greenwalt got the save, striking out two of the final three batters.

Jimmy Paredes (2B, 2RBI), Jose Altuve (2B, RBI), J.D. Martinez (RBI), and Jimmy Van Ostrand (RBI) had two hits each, as the Hooks were 6x9 w/RISP.

Inland Empire was up 13-0 by the middle of the 5th on their way to a 13-7 win over Lancaster. Jose Cisnero allowed 3H/6ER, 0K:3BB in 1.2IP; Wander Alvino allowed 2H/3R (1ER), 2K:1BB. Yordany Ramirez allowed 3H/4ER, 0K:3BB. Colton Pitkin allowed 2H/0ER, 3K:0BB in 2.2IP while David Berner got the last six outs, allowing one hit and one walk.

David Flores (BB) and Andy Simunic (2B, BB, 2RBI) had three hits each while Austin Wates (2RBI) and Grant Hogue (RBI) added two knocks each.

Lexington (32-35)

Lexington only scored in one inning, but it was enough for a 2-0 win at Rome. Luis Cruz threw 5.1IP, 4H/0ER, 3K:1BB; Brian Streilein allowed 1H/0ER, 1K:1BB in 2.2IP, and Jorge De Leon walked one in the 9th, but got his 9th save of the year.

Mike Kvasnicka and Roberto Pena had two hits each, while Chris Wallace and Enrique Hernandez had your RBIs.

Oklahoma City (6-11)

OKC takes the second straight from Round Rock with a 4-2 win over the Express at Dell Diamond. Sergio Perez looked good with a 7IP, 5H/1ER, 5K:1BB outing, getting his first win of the season. Casey Fien allowed 2H/1ER, 2K:0BB in 1.2IP, and Sergio Escalona allowed the hit resulting in the run charged to Fien, getting the last out of the game and his first save of the season.

Koby Clemens was 2x3 with a double, homer, and a walk while Drew Locke and Anderson Hernandez each went 2x4 with a double. Locke also added a 9th inning homer for his first of the season. Carlos Corporan was 1x3 with a walk and 2RBI. Brian Bogusevic drew two walks and got his 7th stolen base of the year.

And Corpus jumped on Frisco for their second straight win on the road in a 10-2 win. The Hooks used five pitchers: Xavier Cedeno got his first win with 5IP, 7H/2ER, 3K:0BB. Arcenio Leon, Matt Nevarez, Shane Wold, and Patrick Urckfitz combined for 4IP, 3H/0ER, 4K:1BB of relief.

T.J. Steele was 3x5 with 3R, 2HR, and 4RBI, while Brandon Barnes was 2x3 with 2RBI. Brandon Wikoff also got two hits, scoring two runs, and getting an RBI. J.D. Martinez and Jimmy Van Ostrand got a hit and an RBI.

OKC had an early 1-0 lead, but it fell apart late as Nashville won 6-1, assisted by FOUR RedHawks errors. Sergio Perez threw 6IP, 5H/2R (1ER), 7K:1BB, HBP. Then Wesley Wright happened: 0IP, 1H/3ER, 0K:2BB. All those runs were charged to Ross Wolf, who threw 2IP, 3H/1ER, 3K:1BB on his own. RedHawks hitters only got four hits, but walked six times, and were 0x8 w/RISP. Brian Bogusevic was 1x2 with 2BB.

Kody Hinze got a walk-off single, scoring Jake Goebbert in what looked like an exciting game with San Jose, winning 4-3 in 12 innings - a game where the Jethawks scored the tying run in the bottom of the 8th and 11th, before winning it in the 12th. Andrew Robinson threw 6IP, 4H/2ER, 4K:2BB, followed by Zach Grimmett who threw 4.2IP of relief, allowing 2H/1ER, 5K:2BB. Kirk Clark got the win, throwing 1IP, 0H/0ER, 1K:2BB. Jay Austin (SB, RBI), Jonathan Villar (3SB, BB), Ben Heath (2B), Kody Hinze (GWRBI) and Austin Wates (2B, SB) had two hits each. Jose Altuve was 1x3 with 2BB.

Double-header! Game 1: Legends drop a pitcher's duel, 1-0, to Hagerstown. Mike Foltynewicz threw 6IP, 5H/1ER, 3K:1BB - and still got the loss. David Martinez came on in the 7th and threw 1IP, 2H/0ER. Enrique Hernandez was 1x3 with 2BB, Delino DeShields was 0x2 with a walk and his first SB of the season. Mike Kvasnicka committed two errors, and Dan Adamson got another outfield assist.

Game 2: Lexington came back from a 4-0 deficit to win, 6-4. Ruben Alaniz threw 3IP, 5H/4R (3ER), 3K:2BB (and allowed Bryce Harper's first professional homer). Gabe Garcia also threw 3IP but allowed 1H/0ER, 4K:1BB, and Jorge De Leon threw a perfect 7th for his 1st save of the year. Delino DeShields hit his first professional homer and Tyler Burnett added another jack. Ben Orloff, Adam Bailey, and Burnett had your 2-hit games. Chris Wallace provided a two-run single.

Astros announce Arizona Fall League participants

The Astros will send seven minor leaguers to the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League: left-hander Patrick Urckfitz, center fielder T.J. Steele, first baseman Koby Clemens, right-handers Matt Nevarez, Sergio Perez and Kyle Greenwalt and outfielder J.B. Shuck. Play will begin October 12.

With any luck the final tally will be eight players, with the eigth participant going by the last name of Loux...

Round Rock

The Express scored four in the 6th and two in the 7th for a 7-4 win over Las Vegas. Sergio Perez threw 7IP, 11H/3ER, 3K:0BB for his first win of the season (in Round Rock), and Yorman Bazardo have up a solo homer. Jason Bourgois, Brian Bogusevic, and Drew Locke had two hits each, with Bourgeois getting 2RBI. Jason Castro was 1x3 and drew a walk to raise his average to .272 and his OBP to .426, and extend his 9-game hitting streak.

German Duran hit two solo homers - the game-tyer (?) and the game-winner - for a 3-2 win over Springfield. Doug Arguello threw 7IP, 7H/2ER, 4K:4BB for his 6th win (ERA: 2.47), and Henry Villar closed it out with 3H/0ER, 2K:1BB in 2IP. German Duran was 2x4 with two solo homers - one in the 6th to make the game 2-2, and the game-winner in the 8th. Jon Gaston and Barry Butera added two hits each.

Hm. Lake Elsinore scored the first four runs of the game, and then six runs in the bottom of the 5th for a 12-4 win over Lancaster. Ross Seaton threw 4IP, 5H/4ER, 3K:2BB (2HR), while the bullpen of Schurz, Godfrey, Urckfitz, and Cespedes gave up 7H/8ER, 3K:4BB in 4IP (though Urckfitz had a perfect outing, so this isn't on him). Seaton is now 1-6 with a 5.54 ERA. Freddy Parejo (hitting .320), Brandon Barnes, and Brandon Wikoff had your two-hit games. Jay Austin was 1x5 with 3RBI and stole his second base of the year. Brandon Barnes was caught stealing and picked off, and Albert Cartwright made two fielding errors.

The Legends got themselves a 4-run 2nd inning, good enough for a 5-3 win over West Virginia. David Duncan, enjoying a resurgence, threw 5IP, 3H/2ER, 1K:0BB outing to improve to 3-0 on the season. Luis Cruz struck out five in 3IP, and Kirk Clark struck out the side in the 9th to close it out. Jose Altuve was 2x5 with a 3-run homer, while J.D. Martinez and Andy Simunic had two hits each.

Round Rock

The Express took a 3-0 lead that held up until the 8th, and ultimately lost in 12 to Reno, 5-4. Sergio Perez threw 7IP, 4H/2ER, 5K:5BB, and Yorman Bazardo allowed the tying run in the 8th. Casey Daigle threw 2IP, 1H/0ER, and Roy Corcoran got lit up like a college student - allowing 5H/2ER in 2IP to drop his record to 1-7. Matt Kata was 3x5, Jason Castro was 2x4, and Collin DeLome had an RBI double. Michael Garciaparra hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the 12th to cut the Reno lead to one, but Marcos Cabral grounded out to end the game.

Tyler Lumsden allowed 4ER in 4IP, and that was pretty much all it took for a 5-3 loss to Midland. Lumsden went 4IP, 5H/4ER, 2K:3BB, while Erik Stiller (2IP, 2H/1ER), Brian Wabick (2IP, 2H/0ER), and Edwin Walker (1IP, 1H/0ER) tried to give the Hooks' offense a chance, but 'twas not to be. Koby Clemens was 2x4 with a double for the only extra-base hit of the night. Sutil, Gaston (2BB), Santangelo, and Florentino added the other hits. Barry Butera got a pinch-hit appearance with one out in the bottom of the 9th, with Gaston on 3rd and Duran on 1st, and he promptly GIDPed to end the game.

The JetHawks scored six runs in the bottom of the 9th, but fell short against High Desert in a 9-7 loss. Dallas Keuchel dropped to 1-4, allowing 9H/7R (6ER), with 2K:1BB in 3IP. Mike Modica gave up 3H/2ER in 3IP of relief, while Ashton Mowdy and David Berner were the two pitchers to hold the Mavericks scoreless. Albert Cartwright was 3x5, and Freddy Parejo, David Flores, John Curtis, and Brandon Wikoff had two hits each.

Lexington enjoyed a 7-run 5th on their way to an 11-6 win over Greensboro. David Duncan threw 5IP, 5H/2ER, 2K:0BB with both runs coming on solo homers. Luis Cruz allowed a run in 2IP, and Jose Trinidad gave up one earned and two unearned runs. Jake Goebbert, J.D. Martinez, Kody Hinze, Our Boy Aaron Bray, and Brian Kemp all had two hits each - with Goebbert also drawing two walks - and Hinze getting 3RBI, Martinez and Bray getting 2RBI each. Jiovanni Mier was the only Legend without a hit (not counting Grant Hogue's pinch-hit strikeout), and committed his 13th error of the season.

Man of the Match: Because it's good to see him back in the lineup and have a good one - Aaron Bray.

A 5-run 7th inning pretty much did it in as Albuquerque surged to a 6-4 win over Round Rock. Chris Johnson was 2x3, Brian Esposito was 2x4 with an RBI, and Mark Saccomanno was 2x4 with a 2-run homer. Billy Sadler, in a tune-up for joining Houston, threw 3IP, 4H/1ER, 2K:1BB. Andy Van Hekken threw 3IP, 3H/3ER, 0K:2BB, Casey Daigle had his 8th BS of the year with 1IP, 3H/2ER, and Roy Corcoran had the only scoreless outing of the staff.

Corpus
Those head-hunting, season-ending Missions were up 7-1 by the end of the 4th, and won 7-2. Six hits were scattered among six Hooks, with Van Ostrand and Moresi getting the two RBIs. Sergio Perez dropped to 10-11 with 4IP, 10H/7ER, 5K:3BB while Danny Meszaros threw 4IP, 2H/0ER, 1K:1BB.

Lexington
The Legends defeated Greenville 3-2 on the strength of Brad Dydalewicz's 8th win of the year. Jay Austin (2x4) had the only multi-hit game, but Pellegrini, Diaz, and Jackson each had RBIs. Dydalewicz (nickname? anyone? Dydo?) threw 5.2IP, 7H/2ER, 3K:1BB and Kyle Godfrey threw 3.1IP, 1H/0ER, 5K:1BB for his 3rd save of the season.

Tri-City
Tri-City did what they've done a lot of this season, losing 4-2 to Aberdeen. The ValleyCats got multi-hit games from Goebbert, Martinez, and Kemp. Dallas Keuchel got the loss with 4IP, 3H/3ER, 3K:3BB, while Kirk Clark and Mike Modica threw 5IP, 3H/1ER, 9K:1BB (7Ks from Clark).

Greeneville
6-2 loss by the Gastros at the hands of Princeton last night. Oscar Figueroa and Kyle Miller were both 2x4. Juri Perez only lasted 0.1IP, recording a strikeout before getting pulled (I'll find out why, but methinks it's injury-related. I'm a regular Sherlock.), David Martinez came in and threw 4.2IP, 7H/6ER, 2K:2BB while Travis Smink and Joan Belliard threw 4IP, 5H/0ER, 2K:2BB in relief.

Eddie's Farm: August 9

I'm trying to remember a day in which the minor-leaguers had a winning record for the day. That day was yesterday, as teams from Greeneville to Round Rock went 4-3.

Round Rock
Erick Abreu improved his age to 26, and his record to 2-0, as the Express beat Portland 6-4. Lou Santangelo was 2x4, and the other seven hits were scattered among seven other Expressists. Mark Saccomanno was 1x4 with 2RBI, Chris Johnson had a sac fly, and Tommy Manzella walked three times. Abrew threw 6IP, 5H/4ER, 4K:1BB while Gervacio, Daigle, and Paronto threw 3IP, 3H/0ER, 5K:1BB in relief.

Corpus Christi
Corpus scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn't enough as Midland won 3-2. Sutil and Florentino had two-hit games, with Sutil and Felix Molina getting the RBIs. Sergio Perez took the loss, throwing 6IP, 6H/3ER, 4K:0BB, mainly because all three Midland runs came on homers. C-Lo threw 2IP, 0H/0ER to lower his Double-A ERA to 3.00.

Lancaster
The JetHawks took a 4-3 lead into the 7th, but a run in the bottom of the 7th and five in the 8th gave Bakersfield a 9-6 win. The only JetHawk without a hit was Jon Gaston, who was 0x5 with 4Ks (ouch). Rosario, Weston, and Corrado had two hits each. Chris Salamida threw 6.1IP, 6H/4ER, 4K:2BB, while Francisco Abad took the loss with a 3ER, three-out performance. Jordan Powell also gave up 2ER in 0.2IP.

But it's good news from here on out!

Lexington
The Legends held off a late Asheville charge and won 7-6. Michael Diaz was 3x4 with a double and a triple, Brian Pellegrini and Steve Brown had two hits each - Brown had three RBI on a 2-run single and a solo homer. David Duncan threw 6IP, 8H/4ER, 5K:1BB.

Tri-City
Well, almost. Tri-City had a 2-0 lead in the sixth, but a 4-run inning will end that pretty quickly, and Williamsport emerged victorious 6-2. Barry Butera had two hits, Sean Barksdale hit a double, and J.D. Martinez hit his 4th homer of the season. Wander Alvino threw 6IP, 7H/4ER, and gave up 2HR in the loss.

Greeneville
Double-header for the Gastros...
Game 1: Jose Altuve was 3x4 with two doubles, Jiovanni Mier was 2x4, and Jonathan Meyer was 2x2 (each had an RBI). Juri Perez threw 5.2IP, 4H/1ER, 6K:3BB to improve to 3-0 and Travis Smink got his 5th save of the year in a 6-2 win.
Game 2: The Gastros took both games, this one with a 5-3 win, thanks mostly to Jonathan Meyer's first two professional homers, accounting for three of the Gastros' runs. Grant Hogue was 2x3 with a triple. Luis Cruz threw 4IP, 3H/2ER, 3K:2BB and Joan Belliard got the win with 3IP, 2H/0ER. The pitching staff induced four GIDPs, and got 13 groundball outs, compared to two flyball outs. Our boy Aaron Bray was not in the lineup in either game.

Round Rock
Nice shutout for the Express in a 4-0 win over Oklahoma City last night. Manzella, Yordany, and Maysonet had two hits each, with Brian Esposito providing two RBI. Erick Abreu threw 5.2IP, 7H/0ER, 5K:2BB while Gervacio and Paronto threw the last 3.1IP, and didn't give up a hit.

Corpus
Corpus enjoyed a 4-run first inning, and while San Antonio got two back in the bottom of the first, Corpus cruised to an 8-3 win. Patience was the virtue as all eight runs scored on only eight hits, but the Hooks drew ten walks. Or, a month's worth for the Astros. Drew Meyer had five RBI on a two-run single and a three-run homer. Sergio Perez threw 5IP, 6H/3ER, 4K:2BB; Danny Meszaros and Charlie Weatherby III thre the final 4IP.

Lancaster
The JetHawks jumped all over High Desert, and won 10-1. Every JetHawk had a hit. Clemens got a two-run single, while Matt Weston, Brandon Barnes (3RBI), and Ronald Ramirez had two hits each. Chris Salamida ran his record to 3-0 with 6IP, 7H/1ER, 5K:0BB.

Lexington
Exciting game in Lexington last night. Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first, Lexington got it back in the 4th. Greenville took a 2-1 lead in the 6th, Lexington got it back in the 8th. Then went up 3-2 in the 9th, and gave it up in the bottom of the 9th and then lost in the bottom of the 10th 4-3. Albert Cartwright was 3x5, Brandon Wikoff was 2x5 (and is hitting .438 since coming up from Tri-City). Kyle Greenwalt threw 7IP, 6H/2ER, 5K:1BB. Godfrey and Villar threw 2.1, giving up 3H/2ER, with Villar getting the loss.

Tri-City
Mahoning Valley scored six of their seven runs after the 5th inning, defeating Tri-City 7-4. Nick Stanley was 4x4, Russell Dixon 3x5, and Jake Goebbert had two doubles on the night. Brandt Walker threw 5.2IP, 5H/3ER, 5K:3BB. Max Fearnow threw 0.2IP, 3H/3ER, 0K:1BB and Brendan Stines threw 2.2IP, 2H/1ER, 3K:1BB.

Greeneville
Greeneville pitcher Murillo Gouvea gave up a run in the 9th, and Bluefield defeated the Gastros 3-2. Frank Almonte was 2x4 with an RBI, and Bubby Williams had an RBI, as well. Juri Perez threw 5IP, 4H/1ER, 7K:0BB. B.J. Hyatt made a scoreless appearance in relief, and the aforementioned Gouvea gave up the 1ER in 3IP. Our boy Aaron Bray was 0x3 with a strikeout.

Eddie's Farm: July 19

Round Rock
Big day for a lot of Express players as Round Rock defeats Oklahoma City 7-4. 15 hits on the day, including 4x5 days from Manzella and Gall, and 3x4 from Yordany. Manzella hit his 21st double and 5th homer of the year. Bud Norris got his 4th win of the year, going 8IP, 10H/4ER, 1K:1BB, and raising his ERA to 2.61. Daigle got his 2nd save.

Corpus
Frisco got out to a 6-2 lead after two innings and rode it out to defeat Corpus 9-6. The Hooks enjoyed just five hits, three of them extra-base hits, and one of those Drew Locke's 13th homer of the season. Sergio Perez didn't make it out of the 2nd, going 1IP, 4H/4ER (6 total), 1K:4BB. Lumsden pitched in with 2IP, 2H/3ER, 1K:2BB. Erick Abreu threw 5IP in relief of 1H/0ER, 2K:1BB.

Lancaster
A 4-run 7th was what it took to provide the difference in Lancaster's 11-8 loss to Stockton. There were multi-hit games from Clemens (3x5), Shuck (2x5), Gaston (2x5), and Weston (2x5). Gaston hit his 23rd homer of the season, and Weston and Clemens - who also had three RBI - had doubles. Shane Wolf had a rough time, going 5.2IP, 10H/6ER (7 total), 2K:1BB. Chris Salamida gave up 2ER in 0.2IP, and Jack Tilghman gave up 2ER without recording an out.

Lexington
After giving up four runs in the bottom of the 5th, Lexington stormed back to get four of their own in the top of the 6th, but it just wasn't enough as Lakewood defeated Lexington 6-5. Two hits each from Eric Suttle and Steve Brown paced the offense, but it was Brown's 2 RBI (and Jorge De Leon's RBI) that provided the run scoring. Jordan Lyles threw 4IP, 6H/5ER, 3K:6BB, and Brian Wabick got in 3IP, 3H/1ER, 1K:2BB.

Tri-City
Batavia got a run in the bottom of the 9th, and that's all they needed as Tri-City lost 1-0. The ValleyCats only got four hits (Kemp, Wikoff, Goebbert, Gonzalez), and Goebbert's double was the only one for extras. Dallas Keuchel extended his scoreless streak with 5IP, 2H/0ER, and again didn't walk a batter, but striking out four. Mike Modica had the hard-luck loss with 3IP, 3H/1R (0ER), 3K.

Greeneville
Kingsport whooped up on Greenevillle in a 13-4 win. Jose Altuve was 2x5 with 2 doubles, and Grant Hogue was 2x3 with 2RBI. Luis Cruz gave up 8ER in 5.2IP, Jeiler Castillo gave up 3ER in 0.2IP, and David Martinez gave up 0ER in 2.2IP (but 2R total).

Eddie's Farm goes 3-1 as Round Rock is off until Thursday, and Tri-City was off last night. But that one loss...you'll just have to keep reading.

A five-run 4th inning led Corpus Christi to an 8-2 win over NW Arkansas last night. Collin DeLome was 3x4 with 2R, Drew Meyer, Mark Ori, and Mitch Einertson all were 2x4 with Meyer and Ori each recording 2RBI on the night. Drew Locke was 1x5 with his 79th RBI of the season. Sergio Perez improved his record to 7-8 with 6.2IP, 7H/2ER, 3K:5BB and Danny Meszaros threw the final 2.1IP with 1H/0ER, 3K:1BB.

Lancaster
Whoa nelly. The JetHawks put up 3R in the 1st, 6R in the 4th, and 4R in the 8th to defeat Inland Empire 15-1 last night. Koby Clemens is your Man of the Match with 4x5, 3R, a double, a triple, and two homers for seven RBI. That's right, dude was a single short of the cycle, and got 13 total bases. Clemens is now hitting .312. Jack Shuck was also 4x5 with 2R and an RBI, and Matt Weston was 3x5 with 3RBI. Casey Hudspeth threw the complete game, 9IP, 7H/1ER, 5K:1BB.

Lexington
And on the flip side of that, Delmarva threw up a 9-run 7th inning, and then held Lexington to three hits in a 19-0 tail-whoopin. The three hits belonged to Jay Austin, Albert Cartwright, and Jorge De Leon. Delmarva was 14x22 with RISP, and still managed to leave 10 on base. Greeneville scored a run in the bottom of the 8th to seal a 3-2 win over Pulaski last night. Jiovanni Mier was 1x2 with 2BB, Jonathan Meyer 0x2 with 2BB, while Jose Altuve, Miguel Arrendell, and Frank Almonte got the RBIs. Luis Cruz went 6IP with 4H/2ER, 8K:1BB, while Juri Perez got the win, and Nathan Pettus recorded his 5th save of the year.

Round Rock
Round Rock's offense struggled against a rehabbing Kyle Lohse last night in a 3-1 loss to Memphis. Yordany got two of the Express' five hits - and no regular starter is currently hitting above .275. Yorman Bazardo took the loss, giving up 2ER in 8IP with 6K:1BB.

Corpus Christi
Northwest Arkansas jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning, and managed to finish it off with a 9-2 win over Corpus. Sutil and Florentino got the only two hits for the Hooks last night. Sergio Perez went 4IP, 7H/5ER, 1K:3BB for the loss. New Hook Charlie Weatherby III gave up 3H/2ER in 2IP, Ryan McKeller went 2IP, 4H/1ER, and T.J. Burton threw the only scoreless inning for the Hooks.

Lancaster
The JetHawks blew up for four runs in the final three innings to defeat Rancho Cucamonga 7-3. Only David Flores didn't get a hit last night, as T.J. Steele was 3x5 (now hitting .359), while Gabe Suarez, Jon Gaston, Matt Weston, and Koby Clemens each had two hits. Jack Shuck hit his first homer of the season and stole his 17th base of the season in 23 attempts, and the JetHawks had three two-out runs on the night. Chris Hicks bumped his record to 8-5 with 6IP, 5H/1ER, 2K:2BB and Chris Salamida closed it out with 3IP, 2H/1ER, 2K:0BB.

Lexington
Ebert Rosario scored Eric Suttle with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to defeat Rome 1-0 last night. The Legends had five hits - three doubles, two of them Rosario's - in the pitcher's duel that saw Jordan Lyles drop the hammer on Rome with 7IP, 7H/0ER, 10K:1BB and Brian Wabick throw two hitless innings for the win. Lyles' ERA is now 2.92.

Tri-City
The ValleyCats got two runs in the 2nd, and then held on for a 2-1 win over Lowell. Russell Dixon got his 4th RBI of the season and Colton Pitkin moved his record to 2-2 with a 5.1IP, 5H/0ER, 6K:4BB performance. Antonio Noguera threw 2IP, 3H/1ER and J.B. MacDonald got his first save of the season with 1.2IP, 2H/0ER, 3K:0BB.

Greeneville
The Greeneville Astros got out to an 8-2 lead after two innings, and then had to hold on for a 13-10 win over Kingsport. Jonathan Meyer was 3x5, Grant Hogue 3x4, and Jose Altuve, Miguel Arrendell, J.D. Martinez, and Aaron Bray had two hits each. The 4-5-6 of Martinez, Meyer, and Bray went 7x15 with 3 doubles and 6RBI. The pitching wasn't much to shout about: B.J. Hyatt went 2IP, 7H/6ER, while Angel Gonzalez got the win despite throwing 1.2IP, 3H/4ER, 2K:2BB. Juri Perez and David Martinez closed out the game with 5.1IP, 2H/0ER, 6K:1BB.

Round Rock
Tommy Manzella had a 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to beat the Zephyrs 6-5 at Dell Diamond yesterday to cap a 3x6 day at the plate. Reggie Abercrombine went 3x5 with a homer and 2RBI, as Lou Santangelo was 4x4 with two doubles to raise his average to .194. Yorman Bazardo went 8IP with 8H/5ER and Daigle got the win with 2IP and 2H, 1K:1BB.

Corpus Christi
Doubleheader with Frisco yesterday! In G1, Corpus was held to five hits as the Frisco Friscoes won 6-0. Two of the five hits were doubles by Drew Meyer, with Van Ostrand, Jason Castro, and Wladimir Sutil getting the other knocks. Sergio Perez gave up 9H/3ER in 5IP while Salamida gave up the other 3ER in 1IP with 2H/2BB.
G2 was the Hooks' turn to do the shutting-out in a 2-0 win. Felix Molina had two hits and an RBI while Sutil got the other RBI on a double. The Hooks used four pitches in the seven inning game, 4IP by Erick Abreu (4H, 6K), 1IP by Danny Meszaros (who got the win), 1IP from Chia-Jen Lo, and 1IP from T.J. Burton.

Lancaster
Chris Hicks gave up all five of his runs in the first inning as the Modesto Nuts coasted to a 6-1 win over Lancaster. Hits by Gaston, Steele, and Comadena, as well as three hits from Weston and two from Flores provided all of the offense for the JetHawks. Hicks struggled with his control, with five hits, three walks, and two wild pitches.

Lexington
The Legends got themselves - and Jordan Lyles - a win yesterday over Greenville, 4-2. Two hits each from Suttle, Austin, Hernandez, and Simunic provided eight of the Legends' 10 hits. Lyles, meanwhile, was lights out. 6IP, 2H/0ER, 11K:2BB lowered his ERA to 3.09. Ashton Mowdy was tagged for 2ER in 2IP while Patrick Urchfitz threw a scoreless ninth, getting 2Ks in the inning.

Tri-City
The ValleyCats were only able to play one of the three games vs Oneonta over the weekend with the Saturday/Sunday games postponed by rain. In the Friday game, however, TCVCs lost 2-0. Brandon Wikoff had two of the five hits while Colton Pitkin threw 6IP, 4H/2ER, 7K:1BB in the hard-luck loss.

Round Rock
Nashville shut down the Express, 5-3 in Nashville last night. The Express got six hits - all singles - and all three runs were scored in the 6th inning. Tommy Manzella got two hits, while Reggie Abercrombie took himself off the bases twice - once caught stealing, and once on a pickoff. Of last night's lineup, Manzella is the only one close to hitting .300, with a .290 average. Yorman Bazardo did what Yorman Bazardo does, and threw 7IP, 5H/1ER, 5K. Geoff Geary got the loss, allowing three hits and two walks (and four runs) in 1IP.

Corpus Christi
The Hooks spread out 10 hits over eight players (Sutil and Florentino enjoyed two-hit games) as the Hooks defeated San Antonio 4-3 on the road. Sergio Perez threw 5IP, allowing 3ER, while Andy Van Hekken, Evan Englebrook and T.J. Burton threw four innings of scoreless relief.

Lancaster
Inland Empire got four runs in each of the 7th and 8th to defeat the JetHawks 10-5. Six 66ers had multi-hit games as Chris Hicks gave up 11H/6ER in 5.2IP. Jeff Icenogle gave up four hits and a walk - three earned runs - and recorded just one out. Jon Gaston was 3x5 with a homer and Gabe Suarez was 2x4.

Lexington
Jordan Lyles got the win for Lexington, allowing 3ER in 6.2IP for the Legends, and getting 6Ks in a 5-3 win. Brian Pellegrini was 2x3, while Kyle Miller also had a multi-hit game. They got RBIs from Miller, Ebert Rosario, Steve Brown, and two from Pellegrini.

Round Rock
Yordany Ramirez. 2x5 with 2 RBI, including a homer in the 2nd and the go-ahead in RBI in the 9th as the Express win 5-3.

Corpus Christi
We'll give this one to Sergio Perez. Drew Meyer was a strong candidate, but Perez regained some form in a 6IP, 0ER outing, leading the Hooks to their 18th straight scoreless inning.

Lexington
Ebert Rosario. 3x4 with a double in the 7th setting up the 4th run in a 4-3 win.

Lancaster
Jeff Icenogle. The JetHawks lost a tough one, 1-0 in 13 innings to Visalia, but Icenogle went 8.2IP with 4H/0ER, 2K:1BB.

Corpus Christi doing their best Orel Hershiser impression

Not quite up to Hershiser's standards, but the Hooks blanked Frisco for the second straight game for an 18 inning scoreless streak.

Sergio Perez is starting to look like a professional pitcher, instead of the batting tee he has resembled over his last two starts, with 6IP, 8H/0ER, 6K:1BB. Drew Meyer went 3x5 with 3RBI in the 10-0 win.

Astros' youngsters impressive against Braves

So obviously there's a split-squad game tonight between the Astros and Hooks, but there was a game against the Braves, as well. Basically meaning that three Astros squads took the field today.

Against the Braves today, we got a chance to see SP-in-waiting Bud Norris start, and he did well:
Norris: 4IP, 5H, 1ER, 4K
Perez: 4IP, 2H, 1R (0ER), 1BB, 2K
Musser: 1IP, 1BB

And even better than that, the Braves basically played their OD squad: Jones, Escobar, Infante, McCann, Francoeur, Johnson. This was a major-league club, and while the bats didn't do much (1 run on 10 hits), the Astros' pitching staff was excellent. The ever-gracious Norris said this:

"I know they're in a hurry to get on their plane so they were swinging early at strikes, but at the same time I just wanted to attack and throw strikes and thought I threw the ball to the zone very well, which was good."

If that's true, that's reprehensible.
