Baseball America has the latest round-up of minor-league tranzactionz, in which we find:
The Astros signed Jordan Kreke (You already knew this) and outfielder Jordan Brown.
Brown, a 28-year old former 2005 4th Round pick of the Indians, got 26 games with Cleveland in 2010, hitting .230/.310/.582 in 92 PAs. But he has raked in the minors, hitting .307/.365/.470 in seven minor-league seasons. In 2011, between Columbus (Cleveland) and Nashville (Milwaukee), he hit .311/.346/.466, with 47K:23BB in 460PAs.
We also learn that the Astros have released the following players:
LHP Travis Blankenship, LHP Colton Pitkin, LHP Shane Wolf, C Federico Hernandez, SS Hector Rodriguez, and OF Kellen Kiilsgaard.
As What the Heck, Bobby noted, with Pitkin's release, the Astros only have two players left in the organization from the 2007 draft - Kyle Greenwalt and Collin DeLome.
This opens up a few spots in Lancaster, as Pitkin, Wolf, and Hernandez all finished the season with the JetHawks. Hector Rodriguez ended 2011 in Lexington, while Blankenship (Tri-City) and Kiilsgaard (Greeneville) ended 2011 with the short-season teams.
We didn't come out here to play tiddlywinks, son.

Round Rock (29-35)
Despite getting two runs in the top of the 9th inning, the Express lost 5-4 at Iowa. Shane Loux threw 5IP, 7H/4ER, 4K:2BB while Brad Thompson and Roy Corcoran threw 3IP, 5H/1ER, 2K:2BB in relief. With Johnson as the tying run on first following a walk, Kata and Locke didn't get it out of the infield to end the game. Bogusevic - batting leadoff - was 2x5 with an RBI while Navarro was 2x3 with 3RBI on the day.
Man of the Match: Oswaldo Navarro

Corpus jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and then gave up the next eight runs for an 8-2 loss. Tyler Lumsden took his 3rd loss of the season, allowing 8H/4ER, 0K:4BB in 5IP (9 walks in his last 11IP). Erik Stiller was the only pitcher to do a job, striking out three and allowing just two hits (no runs) in 3IP. Nelson Payano and T.J. Burton gave up four runs in the final inning. Jhon Florentino had your only multi-hit game (2x4), while Clemens had your only extra-base hit - a double. Fixler and Lumsden hisself had the RBIs.

Kody Hinze was 0x4 with 2Ks, and is hitting .231 (9x39) in his last ten games, with 14K:7BB.

Corpus had a 5-4 lead going into the 9th, Midland tied it up, and Corpus got it back in the bottom of the 9th with a walk-off by Collin DeLome for a 6-5 win. Sutil, DeLome, and Locke had two hits each, and Jimmy Van Ostrand contributed a two-run bomb, while Jonathan Fixler hit a solo shot in the 3rd. Sergio Perpez threw 6.2IP, 6H/1ER (4 total). Evan Englebrook blew the save with the run in the top of the 9th, but got the win.

High Desert got two runs in the third, and that's all they needed in a 2-1 win over Lancaster. Koby Clemens had a double and a homer for two of the JetHawks' four hits. Shane Wolf threw a complete game, 8IP, 9H/2ER, 6K:0BB.

With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh, Lexington broke it open with six runs, and then held on for a 9-7 win over Hickory. Eric Suttle and Russell Dixon were both 3x4 (Dixon: 3 doubles, 3RBI). Robert Bono threw 5IP, 4H/2ER (3 total), 0K:3BB. Brian Wabick got the win despite allowing 4H/3ER in 2.2IP, and Kyle Godfrey got his second save for the Legends.

The ValleyCats rode a 4-run 4th inning to a 6-3 win over Hudson Valley. Jake Goebbert and Sean Barksdale were both 2x3, Goebbert scoring two runs. Dallas Keuchel threw 5IP, 7H/2ER (3 total), 3K:2BB while the bullpen of Kirk Clark, Mike Modica, and Nathan Pettus threw 4IP, 4H/0ER, 3K:1BB.

Jiovanni Mier hit a 2-run walkoff in the 10th to give Greeneville a 5-3 win over Kingsport. Greeneville had leads of 1-0 and 3-1, but Kingsport tied it at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the 9th, allowing Mier to do his 1st Round thing. Nathan Metroka was 3x4 with two hits. Oscar Figueroa scored three runs, and Our Boy Aaron Bray was 1x4 with an RBI. Juri Perez threw 6IP, 4H/1ER, 6K:0BB. Minor League IPs
The Orioles are limiting the number of innings pitched for their young'uns. Should the Astros do the same with pitchers under 25 years of age?

Within that CB link, Tom Verducci explains:
The unofficial industry standard is that no young pitcher should throw more than 30 more innings than he did the previous season. It's a general rule of thumb, and one I've been tracking for about a decade. When teams violate the incremental safeguard, it's amazing how often they pay for it.
Alright, so let's take us a gander at this: Which pitchers age 25 and younger have already exceeded 30IP over 2008 totals?
Bud Norris
2007: 102.2 IP
2008: 80 IP
2009: 147.2 IP
Felipe Paulino
2007: 131 IP
2008: 0.2 IP
2009: 98 IP
It's worth noting that Paulino's IP jumped from 55 in 2005 to 126.1 in 2006. He threw 131 in 2007, and missed just about all of 2008. That's why he's listed - as a precautionary tale.
Danny Meszaros

David Duncan

Mark McLemore got hisself a win as Round Rock defeated Portland 2-1. Chris Johnson and Brian Bogusevic had two hits each (Johnson's hits were a double and a homer), with Johnson and Yordany providing RBIs. Four of the Express' seven hits were for extra-bases. McLemore threw 6IP, 4H/1ER, 2K:3BB and Gervacio, Daigle, and Paronto threw 3IP, 1H/0ER, 3K:1BB in relief.

The JetHawks scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th for a 6-5 come-from-behind win. Koby was doin' work, with 2x5 and 3RBI, including a two-run homer. Barnes, Weston, and Cabral also had two hits each. Shane Wolf threw 6.1IP, 7H/4ER, 6K:2BB and Francisco Abad got the win with 2.2IP, 2H/0ER, 4K:0BB.

Rough day at the plate for the Legends, as they were shutout in both games of a double-header against Asheville.
Game 1: Only two hits for the Legends - one from Wikoff and one from Pellegrini - in a 5-0 loss. Kyle Greenwalt threw 4.1IP, 5H/3ER, 3K:3BB.
Game 2: And only three hits in the second game in a 1-0 loss, this time from Pellegrini, Suttle, and Hulett. Jordan Lyles threw 6IP, 1H/0ER, 7K:2BB and Henry Villar threw 2IP, 3H/1R - unfortunately unearned, for a hard-luck loss.

Tri-City broke out the big bats for 11 runs on 16 hits - including a 4-run tie-breaking 8th inning for an 11-7 win over Hudson Valley. J.D. Abercrombie and Bogusevic each had two hits with Chris Johnson and Yordany providing the other two. Yorman Bazardo threw 5IP, 5H/5ER, 4K:3BB. Josh Muecke gave up 2ER in 2IP.

Andy Van Hekken got his sixth win for the Hooks with a 5-2win. Drew Locke was 4x5 and got his 100th RBI of the season; Nick Moresi (who is human and he wants to be loved...just like everybody else) was 3x4 with an RBI, while Jhon Florentino provided a two-run triple. Wladimir Sutil and a rehabbing Darin Erstad were both 2x5. AVH threw 7IP, 5H/1ER, 2K:3BB, while C-Lo threw 1IP, 1H/1ER and Evan Englebrook closed it out with a scoreless 9th.
Lancaster
By the end of the 2nd, Lancaster had a 13-4 lead, and closed it out with an 18-5 win. Obviously, that means a lot of hits. Jack Shuck was 5x6 with 2RBI, Brandon Barnes was 4x4 with 3RBI. Ebert Rosario hit his 1st homer for Lancaster with a 3x5, 3RBI day. Clemens and Weston were both 3x6 and Cabral and Corrado had two hits each. The JetHawks were 12x23 with RISP in a good old-fashioned nut-thumping. Shane Wolf threw 7IP, 9H/5ER, 8K:3BB.

Brian Pellegrini provided the only RBI as the Legends were shut down by Greenville 3-1. Shortstop Brandon Wikoff got on base more than anybody else with two walks, and he was the only Legend in the lineup with a batting average higher than .295 (now hitting .412). Jordan Lyles' record dropped to 6-10 (with a 3.44 ERA) with 7IP, 7H/3ER, 6K:0BB.

Tri-City dropped another one to Mahoning Valley 5-3. Renzo Tello was 3x4, Erik Castro was 2x4 with an RBI, and Jhonny Medrano hit a two-run homer. Colton Pitkin threw 4IP, 6H/5ER, 3K:3BB. Clark, Schurz, and Modica stopped the bleeding with five scoreless innings in relief.

Greeneville actually had a 7-5 lead going into the 7th. But unfortunately, the game is nine innings long, and Bluefield won 10-7. Our boy Aaron Bray was 2x4 with a double, walk, and an RBI. Kyle Miller posted the same line, and Wilton Infante was 2x5 with a triple. Brutal, though: the Gastros committed four errors leading to five unearned runs. Gabe Garcia threw 3.2IP, 7H/5R (1ER), 4K:0BB, and Jeiler Castillo was charged with the loss with 2IP, 5H/3ER.

The GCL Marlins threw a 2-hitter and that's a recipe for a 5-0 win. Suniaga and Pedro Feliz got the hits. Ricardo Batista was tagged with the loss after giving up 7H/4ER in 2IP. Garrett Bullock picked up 3IP, 3H/1R (0ER) in relief.

Round Rock
Big day for a lot of Express players as Round Rock defeats Oklahoma City 7-4. 15 hits on the day, including 4x5 days from Manzella and Gall, and 3x4 from Yordany. Manzella hit his 21st double and 5th homer of the year. Bud Norris got his 4th win of the year, going 8IP, 10H/4ER, 1K:1BB, and raising his ERA to 2.61. Daigle got his 2nd save.
Corpus
Frisco got out to a 6-2 lead after two innings and rode it out to defeat Corpus 9-6. The Hooks enjoyed just five hits, three of them extra-base hits, and one of those Drew Locke's 13th homer of the season. Sergio Perez didn't make it out of the 2nd, going 1IP, 4H/4ER (6 total), 1K:4BB. Lumsden pitched in with 2IP, 2H/3ER, 1K:2BB. Erick Abreu threw 5IP in relief of 1H/0ER, 2K:1BB.

A 4-run 7th was what it took to provide the difference in Lancaster's 11-8 loss to Stockton. There were multi-hit games from Clemens (3x5), Shuck (2x5), Gaston (2x5), and Weston (2x5). Gaston hit his 23rd homer of the season, and Weston and Clemens - who also had three RBI - had doubles. Shane Wolf had a rough time, going 5.2IP, 10H/6ER (7 total), 2K:1BB. Chris Salamida gave up 2ER in 0.2IP, and Jack Tilghman gave up 2ER without recording an out.

After giving up four runs in the bottom of the 5th, Lexington stormed back to get four of their own in the top of the 6th, but it just wasn't enough as Lakewood defeated Lexington 6-5. Two hits each from Eric Suttle and Steve Brown paced the offense, but it was Brown's 2 RBI (and Jorge De Leon's RBI) that provided the run scoring. Jordan Lyles threw 4IP, 6H/5ER, 3K:6BB, and Brian Wabick got in 3IP, 3H/1ER, 1K:2BB.
Tri-City
Batavia got a run in the bottom of the 9th, and that's all they needed as Tri-City lost 1-0. The ValleyCats only got four hits (Kemp, Wikoff, Goebbert, Gonzalez), and Goebbert's double was the only one for extras. Dallas Keuchel extended his scoreless streak with 5IP, 2H/0ER, and again didn't walk a batter, but striking out four. Mike Modica had the hard-luck loss with 3IP, 3H/1R (0ER), 3K.

Kingsport whooped up on Greenevillle in a 13-4 win. Jose Altuve was 2x5 with 2 doubles, and Grant Hogue was 2x3 with 2RBI. Luis Cruz gave up 8ER in 5.2IP, Jeiler Castillo gave up 3ER in 0.2IP, and David Martinez gave up 0ER in 2.2IP (but 2R total).
