Almonte spent all of his games in the outfield, including eight in which he was the DH, playing 21 games in LF and 11 in RF, committing one error in 43 chances.

This was Almonte's third season in the Astros' organization, and his second in Greeneville. Almonte didn't play past August 8 of this year - for reasons I'm still trying to find - but 2009 was similar to 2008 for him. In 2008, Almonte had a 6.7:1 K:BB ratio, striking out in 31.3% of his PAs. So in that regard, he has brought his K rate down, but his OPS dropped from .750 to .741 from 08 to 09, and those Ks are going to need to come down. He may have been finding his groove when his season was cut short, hitting .324/.395/.647 in the last ten games of his season.

Almonte collided with a pitcher on a squibber down the first base line on Aug. 9th. He tore something and was done for the year. Likely also for his career based on his age and the length of the rehab. Nice kid. It's a shame.

Eddie's Farm: August 4

Round Rock
Nice shutout for the Express in a 4-0 win over Oklahoma City last night. Manzella, Yordany, and Maysonet had two hits each, with Brian Esposito providing two RBI. Erick Abreu threw 5.2IP, 7H/0ER, 5K:2BB while Gervacio and Paronto threw the last 3.1IP, and didn't give up a hit.

Corpus
Corpus enjoyed a 4-run first inning, and while San Antonio got two back in the bottom of the first, Corpus cruised to an 8-3 win. Patience was the virtue as all eight runs scored on only eight hits, but the Hooks drew ten walks. Or, a month's worth for the Astros. Drew Meyer had five RBI on a two-run single and a three-run homer. Sergio Perez threw 5IP, 6H/3ER, 4K:2BB; Danny Meszaros and Charlie Weatherby III thre the final 4IP.

Lancaster
The JetHawks jumped all over High Desert, and won 10-1. Every JetHawk had a hit. Clemens got a two-run single, while Matt Weston, Brandon Barnes (3RBI), and Ronald Ramirez had two hits each. Chris Salamida ran his record to 3-0 with 6IP, 7H/1ER, 5K:0BB.

Lexington
Exciting game in Lexington last night. Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first, Lexington got it back in the 4th. Greenville took a 2-1 lead in the 6th, Lexington got it back in the 8th. Then went up 3-2 in the 9th, and gave it up in the bottom of the 9th and then lost in the bottom of the 10th 4-3. Albert Cartwright was 3x5, Brandon Wikoff was 2x5 (and is hitting .438 since coming up from Tri-City). Kyle Greenwalt threw 7IP, 6H/2ER, 5K:1BB. Godfrey and Villar threw 2.1, giving up 3H/2ER, with Villar getting the loss.

Tri-City
Mahoning Valley scored six of their seven runs after the 5th inning, defeating Tri-City 7-4. Nick Stanley was 4x4, Russell Dixon 3x5, and Jake Goebbert had two doubles on the night. Brandt Walker threw 5.2IP, 5H/3ER, 5K:3BB. Max Fearnow threw 0.2IP, 3H/3ER, 0K:1BB and Brendan Stines threw 2.2IP, 2H/1ER, 3K:1BB.

Greeneville
Greeneville pitcher Murillo Gouvea gave up a run in the 9th, and Bluefield defeated the Gastros 3-2. Frank Almonte was 2x4 with an RBI, and Bubby Williams had an RBI, as well. Juri Perez threw 5IP, 4H/1ER, 7K:0BB. B.J. Hyatt made a scoreless appearance in relief, and the aforementioned Gouvea gave up the 1ER in 3IP. Our boy Aaron Bray was 0x3 with a strikeout.

Eddie's Farm: July 21

Eddie's Farm goes 4-2 yesterday; double-header with Round Rock, Lexington and Tri-City didn't play.

Round Rock
Game 1 of the double-header, a completion of a suspended game back on June 11, saw Round Rock finish the game off with a 5-1 win over Albuquerque. Jason Smith had a two-run homer, while Abercrombie and Bogusevic had two hits. Josh Muecke threw 5.1IP, 5H/1ER, 3K:3BB while Geary got his first save for Round Rock.

Game 2 was a 7-inning affair in which Albuquerque was held to five hits, yet still won the game 3-1. Two of Round Rock's three hits were from Tommy Manzella, who raised his average to .281, two points behind Bogusevic, who was 1x3. Mark McLemore threw 6IP, 3H/2ER, 4K:2BB and Capellan gave up 1ER in 1IP.

Corpus
Corpus jumped out to a 7-2 lead after two innings, and held on for a 10-7 win. Wladimir Sutil, Jason Castro and Jimmy Van Ostrand each had three hits, Castro enjoyed a single, double, and a triple for 4RBI, while JVO had 3RBI, and the Hooks were 8x18 with RISP. Wilton Lopez took the win, despite getting popped for 5IP, 12H/6ER. Evan Englebrook got his first save for the Hooks with a scoreless 9th.

Lancaster
Lancaster finally got one over on Stockton, winning 5-1. Jon Gaston did what Jon Gaston does, and that's hit another pair of homers - his 26th/27th of the season. Leandro Cespedes seems to have found his groove again, tossing 6IP, 6H/0ER (1R), 3K:2BB, and Jordan Powell threw 3IP, 0H/0ER ball for the save.

Greeneville
Despite allowing three runs in the final two innings, Greeneville bent but didn't break in a 5-4 win over Bluefield. Frank Almonte hit a two-run shot in the 6th, and Jonathan Meyer was 2x4. Jose Cisnero threw 5IP, 2H/0ER (1R), 4K:0BB for the win. Three errors - one by Jiovanni Mier (his 6th) and two by Jose Altuve (his 4th/5th) led to three unearned runs.

GCL Astros
The Gastros got absolutely smoked yesterday, losing 15-0 to the GCL Marlins. The Gastros got five hits, and committed six erros in the loss. Euris Quezada dropped to 0-5 despite giving up 2ER in 5IP on 1H/1BB. That means the bullpen took over for 4IP, 11H/13R (11ER). 4th rounder Telvin Nash was 0x4 and is hitting .140 on the season. Good stat, though: Nash is hitting .375 in night games...
