Baseball America has the latest round-up of minor-league tranzactionz, in which we find:
The Astros signed Jordan Kreke (You already knew this) and outfielder Jordan Brown.
Brown, a 28-year old former 2005 4th Round pick of the Indians, got 26 games with Cleveland in 2010, hitting .230/.310/.582 in 92 PAs. But he has raked in the minors, hitting .307/.365/.470 in seven minor-league seasons. In 2011, between Columbus (Cleveland) and Nashville (Milwaukee), he hit .311/.346/.466, with 47K:23BB in 460PAs.
We also learn that the Astros have released the following players:
LHP Travis Blankenship, LHP Colton Pitkin, LHP Shane Wolf, C Federico Hernandez, SS Hector Rodriguez, and OF Kellen Kiilsgaard.
As What the Heck, Bobby noted, with Pitkin's release, the Astros only have two players left in the organization from the 2007 draft - Kyle Greenwalt and Collin DeLome.
This opens up a few spots in Lancaster, as Pitkin, Wolf, and Hernandez all finished the season with the JetHawks. Hector Rodriguez ended 2011 in Lexington, while Blankenship (Tri-City) and Kiilsgaard (Greeneville) ended 2011 with the short-season teams.

Off. But it was the Texas League All-Star Game, and the Hooks were well represented. Jordan Lyles threw a scoreless 4th inning, and got the win. Koby Clemens was 0x4 with 2Ks, Lou Santangelo was 0x1 with a K, and Jack Shuck was 0x3. Still, Shuck stole the spotlight with his glove:
With two outs in the top of the ninth inning and the South clinging to a one-run lead, Midland RockHounds closer Jared Lansford gave up consecutive hits to the Wilin Rosario of the Tulsa Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals teammates Clint Robinson and Tim Smith.
When Smith singled to shallow left field, Rosario was waved around third and headed for home. Shuck fielded the ball on one hop and fired a strike to Hooks catcher Lou Santangelo who easily applied the tag to end the late-inning drama.
"I didn't expect him to be headed home, actually," Shuck said. "I knew I was playing shallow and I knew I had a shot at him when I saw him take off. I just let it go."

Jeez. The JetHawks were dominated by Modesto in an 8-1 loss. David Duncan threw 5IP, 9H/4ER, 3K:1BB, with a wild pitch and an HBP. Kyle Godfrey threw a perfect 6th inning, while Ashton Mowdy allowed 2H/2ER, 1BB in 1IP, and Mike Modica allowed 2H/2ER, 2BB in 1IP. The JetHawks only collected three hits (Barnes, Cruz, Parejo). Brandon Barnes also drew the only walk, and thus became the only JetHawk to get on base twice.

Four in the 4th and two in the 5th led Hickory to a 7-4 win over the Legends. Tanner Bushue dropped to 4-4 after allowing 8H/7ER, 4K:1BB in 4.1IP, allowing two homers totaling five runs. Colton Pitkin closed it down with an impressive 3.2IP, 1H/0ER, 2K:0BB. Our Boy Aaron Bray was 2x4 with a double and an RBI, and Jake Goebbert also collected two hits, and an outfield assist. Jonathan Meyer was 1x4 with the other RBI. Jiovanni Mier was 1x4 with a double, but also committed his 22nd error of the season.

The ValleyCats wrapped up a three-game set at Vermont, and managed to not score a single run. Vermont wins 8-0. Murillo Gouvea allowed 4H/6ER, 1K:3BB for the loss. Blakez, Sogard, and Stines threw scoreless outings, while Mike Ness gave up a 2-run homer in the 8th. Tri-City only got four hits on the night (Orloff, Heath, Tello, Burnett), with Tello hitting a double, and Heath also drawing the only walk of the night.

Pitching battle in Kingsport as the Gastros defeat the Mets 2-0. Ruben Alaniz threw 5IP, 3H/0ER, 4K:1BB, while Brian Streilein, Phil Rorabaugh, and Travis Smink combined for 4IP, 5H/0ER, 4K:1BB. Telvin Nash was 2x4, and Bubby Williams hit a solo homer, with Jonathan Merritt adding an RBI double.

GCL Astros
Brutal game for the bullpen, as the GCL Mets and GCL Astros were locked up 6-6 going into the 9th. But the Mets scored four in the top of the 9th for the 10-6 win. Luis Ordosgoitti allowed 6H/3R (1ER), 5K:2BB; Austin Lucas gave up 2H/1ER, 3K:1BB in 1.1IP, and Pedro Gomez allowed 6H/6R (2ER), 1K:1BB in 2IP. That's six unearned runs, thanks to errors from Monzon, Gomez, and Fernandez. Continuing his rehab assignment, Collin DeLome was 2x4, and Jose Fernandez, Jose Vargas, and Roberto Pena each added two hits. Kyle Redinger was 1x3 with 3RBI.

The Express had a good start from Josh Banks, and a monster day by Brian Bogusevic for a 6-3 win over Memphis. Banks threw 6.2IP, 7H/3R (1ER), 4K:1BB to improve to 3-3 with a 2.93 ERA. Yorman Bazardo and Casey Daigle shut it down to preserve the win. Bogusevic was 4x4 with a 2-run homer, Oswaldo Navarro was 2x4, and Jason Castro was 1x4 with an RBI double.

A wild one in Corpus saw four runs scored in the 9th inning, but it was the Hooks who got the last two for a 5-4 win. Marcos Cabral and David Cook scored on a throwing error to win the game - brutal to win on a walkoff throwing error - but we'll take it. Sergio Perez threw 5IP, 4H/1ER, 2K:3BB, while Nelson Payano threw 2IP, allowing five baserunners (3H/2BB), but no runs. Edwin Walker threw 1s: 1IP, 1H/1ER, 1K:1BB, but Danny Meszaros gets his third blown save and his second win, allowing three hits and a walk (2ER) in 1IP. Jack Shuck and Koby Clemens both had two hits, and Clemens also stole two bases and drew a walk. J.R. Towles was 0x4 with 3Ks, and an RBI. Also impressive were the two outfield assists, nailing Missions at home - one by Gaston and one by T.J. Steele.

Our boy Aaron Bray is having a rough time of it, going 0x4 to lower his average to .139.

2009 was Pitkin's third season in the organization, and his first in Tri-City, having spent the previous two seasons in Greeneville (though pitching in only seven games in 2007). This year saw a 24.1IP jump over 2008, and with it, a 1.14 jump in ERA, and 0.22 in WHIP. His Ks were down almost 3K/9, while his relatively high walk rate stayed about the same (4.2BB/9 in 2009, as opposed to 4.1 BB/9 in 2008). Still, the increase in IPs could account for some damage, seeing as how Pitkin was 2-6 with a 5.44 ERA and a .315 BAA in his last ten games. He encountered a rough patch from July 25-Aug 5, giving up 14ER in 13IP, but those walks need to come down, and his upside-down groundout:flyout ratio needs to get on the plus side of 1:1.

Round Rock
Nashville used a 6-run 4th inning to beat the Express 7-3. Matt Kata was 3x4 with 2RBI, Reggie Abercrombie (2x5), and Bogusevic (2x4, RBI) had multi-hit games. Josh Muecke threw 5IP, 9H/4ER (7 total) and four relievers followed - three of them major-leaguers (Wright, Brocail, and Sampson), while Chad Paronto closed out the game. This was the second time Sampson has pitched since August 20, and surprise surprise, allowed 0ER in his those two games. So, rest. Who knew?

Corpus scored a go-ahead run in the 8th to defeat San Antonio 11-10. Jhon Florentino was 3x5, while JVO was 2x3 with a 2-run homer and 3RBI. Felix Molina and Nick Moresi had 2RBI each. Klingin' Kenny Baugh threw 2IP, 6H/7ER, 0K:3BB, and Ryan McKeller came in with 4IP of relief, 4H/2R (1ER), 4K:1BB. Weatherby blew the save, but got the win, while Evan Englebrook got his 8th save of the year.

Jordan Lyles thrwe 5IP, 7H/3ER, 6K:0BB while Henry Villar, Brian Wabick, and Matt Nevarez threw 7IP, 5H/0ER, 7K:0BB in relief - Nevarez picked up the win.

Got the piss kicked out of them 8-0 at the hands of the Tacoma Rainiers. Like the Astros, the Express drew no walks, and do much in the way of hitting, either. Shortstop Brandon Wikoff got on base more than anybody else with two walks, and he was the only Legend in the lineup with a batting average higher than .295 (now hitting .412). Kyle Miller posted the same line, and Wilton Infante was 2x5 with a triple. Brutal, though: the Gastros committed four errors leading to five unearned runs. Gabe Garcia threw 3.2IP, 7H/5R (1ER), 4K:0BB, and Jeiler Castillo was charged with the loss with 2IP, 5H/3ER.

The GCL Marlins threw a 2-hitter and that's a recipe for a 5-0 win. Suniaga and Pedro Feliz got the hits. Ricardo Batista was tagged with the loss after giving up 7H/4ER in 2IP. Garrett Bullock picked up 3IP, 3H/1R (0ER) in relief.

Eddie's Farm: July 12
Eddie's Farm goes 1-5 yesterday in a brutal string of games. Lexington was off, Tri-City played a double header..
Round Rock
Round Rock got dropped 3-1 in a loss at Nashville - and I'm really happy (dripping sarcasm, in case any Cubs fans are reading) I missed all of these games this time around. All of the scoring took place in the 2nd inning, and the Express managed just five hits, only one for extra bases - a triple of Mark Saccomanno. Yorman Bazardo pitched 6IP, 6H/3ER, 1K:1BB.
Corpus
Outhit Northwest Arkansas 11-5, but lost 5-1. Sutil, DeLome, and Einertson had multi-hit games, but again, only one extra base hit - a 9th inning RBI triple from Brian Esposito. New Hooks signee Kenny Baugh threw 6IP, 4H/4ER, 1K:1BB, and Tyler Lumsden lowered his ERA to 7.94 with 2IP, 1H/0ER, 3K.

Inland Empire jumped on the JetHawks with six runs in the first two innings, and then held on to win 8-5. Multi-hit games from Shuck (2x2 with three walks), Suarez, Gaston, Clemens, and David Flores gave the JetHawks a chance, but the pitching just wasn't there. Flores and Matt Weston connected for homers and the 1-2-3 of Shuck-Suarez-Gaston went a combined 6x11 with 1K:4BB and three extra-base hits. Chris Hicks got the loss with 2IP, 7H/4ER (6 total), 2K:2BB. Shane Wolf picked up the next five innings and held the 66ers to 5IP, 4H/1ER, 5K:0BB.
Lexington call-up Ashton Mowdy closed out the game with 2IP, 3H/1ER, 5K:0BB and 2WP.

In Game 2, same score, but this time six hits for the ValleyCats in the 3-0 loss. Kemp got another hit, as did Wikoff, Russell Dixon (hitting .306), Erik Castro, J.D. Martinez, and Pedro Gonzalez. Robby Donovan took the loss with 3IP, 3H/1ER (3R total). J.B. MacDonald got 4Ks in 3IP.

And we finally have a winner for Eddie's Farm as Greeneville had a 12-2 lead at the end of three innings - including a 7-run 3rd inning - to win 13-7 against Pulaski. Jose Altuve was 3x5, Miguel Arrendell was 2x4 with a 3-run homer and Jiovanni Mier, Nathan Metroka, and Aaron Bray all had 2RBI for the Gastros. Mier is now hitting .317. B.J. Hyatt continues to have a rough go of it, with 6H/6ER in 3.2IP, to go along with 3BB and 2HR - his ERA is now 10.45. Angel Gonzalez got the win with 1ER in 4IP to lower his ERA to 14.73.

Round Rock's offense struggled against a rehabbing Kyle Lohse last night in a 3-1 loss to Memphis. Yordany got two of the Express' five hits - and no regular starter is currently hitting above .275. Yorman Bazardo took the loss, giving up 2ER in 8IP with 6K:1BB.

Northwest Arkansas jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning, and managed to finish it off with a 9-2 win over Corpus. Sutil and Florentino got the only two hits for the Hooks last night. Tommy Manzella had a 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to beat the Zephyrs 6-5 at Dell Diamond yesterday to cap a 3x6 day at the plate. Reggie Abercrombine went 3x5 with a homer and 2RBI, as Lou Santangelo was 4x4 with two doubles to raise his average to .194. Yorman Bazardo went 8IP with 8H/5ER and Daigle got the win with 2IP and 2H, 1K:1BB.

Doubleheader with Frisco yesterday! In G1, Corpus was held to five hits as the Frisco Friscoes won 6-0. Two of the five hits were doubles by Drew Meyer, with Van Ostrand, Jason Castro, and Wladimir Sutil getting the other knocks. Sergio Perez gave up 9H/3ER in 5IP while Salamida gave up the other 3ER in 1IP with 2H/2BB.
G2 was the Hooks' turn to do the shutting-out in a 2-0 win. Felix Molina had two hits and an RBI while Sutil got the other RBI on a double. The Hooks used four pitches in the seven inning game, 4IP by Erick Abreu (4H, 6K), 1IP by Danny Meszaros (who got the win), 1IP from Chia-Jen Lo, and 1IP from T.J. Burton.
