Timely hitting and a strong performance by Tommy Shirley gave the JetHawks a 6-3 win over Inland Empire. Shirley went 7 IP and gave up 5H/1R with 3K:2BB. Jonas Dufek threw 1 IP, allowing 4H/2R with 1 K. Travis Ballew went the final 1 IP with 2 K.

Fontana's gonna Fontana, going 1x2 with 3 BB and 2 R. Andrew Aplin went 2x5 with 1 SB, 1 2B, 1 R, and 2 RBI. MP Cokinos went 2x5 with 1 2B and 2 RBI.

Quad Cities (14-11), 3.5 GB

A costly error and lack of offense led to the River Bandits 8-3 loss to the TinCaps. Vincent Velasquez went 5 IP and gave up 5H/5R (3 ER) with 4 K. Gerardo Sanchez threw 2 IP, allowing 2H/1R with 2 K. Jamaine Cotton finished up with 2 IP, allowing 4H/2R with 1 K.

Carlos Correa was 2x4 with 1 2B and 2 RBI. Bobby Borchering was 1x4 with a solo HR.

Tri-City (21-10) 3.0 up

The ValleyCats used 18 hits to beat Auburn, who helped out by committing 4 errors, 9-3. Andrew Thurman went 5 IP and gave up 6H/1R with 6K:1BB. Michael Feliz threw 3 IP, allowing 5H/2R (1 ER) with 3 K. Andrew Walter took the final 1 IP with 1 H and 1 K. 

D'Andre Toney was 3x5 with 1 SB, 1 3B, 3 R, and 1 RBI. Conrad Gregor went 2x4 with 1 RBI. Michael Martinez was 2x4 with 1 2B and 1 RBI. Ryan Dineen went 3x5 with 2 R. Jake Rodriguez was 3x4 with 2 2B and 1 R. James Ramsey was 2x4 with 1 R and 1 RBI.

Greeneville (17-10), 0.5 up

In a seven inning make-up game, the Astros two-hit the Rays to win 4-0. Jordan Mills went 4 no-hit innings with 5 K. Krishawn Holley threw 2 IP with 2 H and 1K:2BB. Raul Rivera took the final inning with 1 K. 

Brett Phillips was 1x1 with 1 BB, 1 SB, and 2 RBI. Edwin Gomez was 1x3 with 1 R and 1 RBI.

GCL Astros (12-11), 2.5 GB

There's no other way to put it: the Astros were blasted by the Phillies 14-2. Austin Nicely started out with 2 no-hit innings, allowing 1 BB. Reymin Guduan lasted just .2 IP and gave up 5H/6R (2 ER) with 1K:1BB. You know what? These pitching lines are too ugly for me to type. If you're into gore, go check them out here.

Yonathan Mejia was 2x4 with 2 2B and 1 R. Brett Booth was 2x4 with 1 HR and 2 RBI.

DSL Astros (21-17) 5.0 GB

Despite being outhit by the Astros, the A's made the most of their opportunites to win 3-1. Elieser Hernandez threw 2 IP with 2K:1BB. Javier Saucedo went 3 IP, allowing 3H/3R with 3K:1BB. Yonquelys Martinez took the final inning with 1 K.

PreStros Farm Report: July 4


PreStros: July 4


Oklahoma City (50-36) 

OKC held on during a three run ninth by the Zephyrs to beat New Orleans (MIA) 10-9.

Paul Clemens threw 4.1 innings and allowed 4 R on 8 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Juan Abreu went 1.2 innings, allowing 1 unearned run with 2 H and 2 K. Adalberto Flores gave up 1 H in 1 inning. Enerio Del Rosario pitched 1 inning, giving up 1 R on 2 H and 1 BB. Hector Ambriz threw the final inning and allowed 3 R on 3 H and 1 BB.

SS-Marwin Gonzalez was 3x5 with 3 2B and 3 RBI. 2B-Jimmy Paredes was 2x5 with 1 HR and 2 R. LF-Fernando Martinez went 2x5 with 1 R and 1 RBI. C-Landon Powell was 3x4 with 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 R, and 3 RBI.

*Notes: Brett Wallace is hitting .514 over his last 10 games. Since his demotion he’s hit .407. The RedHawks are one of just three teams in the minors to have over 100 home runs this season.

Corpus Christi (45-37) 

Jair Fernandez came up big with a three run homer to give Corpus a 4-3 win over Tulsa (COL).

Jose Cisnero threw 6 innings and gave up 3 R on 6 H and 3 BB with 8 K. Josh Zeid pitched 2 scoreless innings with 2 K. Jason Stoffel got the save with 1 inning, allowing 2 H with 1 K.

1B-Jon Singleton was 2x4 with 1 2B. C-Jair Fernandez was 1x3 with 1 HR and 3 RBI.

*Notes: Corpus tied a team record with 18 wins in June. Jose Martinez has missed the last four games with a sore knee. Newly acquired Rob Rasmussen will join the Hooks.


Lancaster (42-42) 

The JetHawks couldn’t muster an attack on Visalia (ARI) as they lost 5-2.

David Martinez threw 6 innings, giving up 4 R on 7 H and 1 BB with 5 K. Pat Urckfitz pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 R on 3 H with 2 K.

LF-Grant Hogue was 1x3 with 1 BB, 2 SB, and 1 R. DH-Chris Epps was 1x4 with 1 3B and 1 R.

*Notes: Telvin Nash has either homered, struck out, or walked in nearly 71% of his plate appearances this season. He is currently day-to-day after taking an arrow to the knee a foul ball to the nose. George Springer has a 12 game hitting streak.


Lexington (43-40) 

The Legends lost another tough pitcher’s duel, this time to Hagerstown (WAS) 3-2.

Carlos Quevedo got the start and went 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing 4 H with 3 K. Evan Grills threw 2.1 innings, giving up 2 R on 6 H and 1 BB with 1 K. Murilo Gouvea took the final inning and gave up 1 R on 1 H and 1 BB.

2B-Ruben Sosa was 1x3 with 1 BB. LF-Brandon Meredith was 1x4 with 1 HR. RF-Justin Gominsky went 1x3 with 1 BB, 1 R, and 1 outfield assist on a play at the plate.

*Notes: Nolan Fontana was assigned to Lexington. Luis Alvarez was sent to Greeneville.

Tri-City (13-4) 

The ValleyCats lost for the first time in 12 games, falling 7-2 to State College (PIT).

Joe Bircher lasted just 3.2 innings before being ejected after hitting a batter, allowing 3 R on 10 H with 2 K. John Neely went the next 3.1 innings and gave up 2 R (1 earned) on 2 H and 1 BB with 1 K. Brad Propst threw 2 innings and gave up 2 unearned runs and 3 H with 4 K.

2B-Austin Elkins was 1x4 with 1 HR and 2 R. RF-Emilio King was 1x3 with 1 BB and 1 outfield assist on a play at home.

Greeneville (9-6) 

The Astros lost a tough one 6-4 in 12 innings to Johnson City (STL)

Daniel Minor threw 5 innings and gave up 3 R on 3 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Jordan Jankowski pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 R on 1 H with 3 K. Michael Dimock went 2 scoreless innings with 1 BB and 2 K. Scott Zuloaga got one out with 1 K. Euris Quezada threw 1.2 innings and gave up 2 unearned runs with 3 H and 3 K.

CF-D’Andre Toney was 3x6 with 1 R and 2 RBI. RF-Ariel Ovando was 2x5 with 1 R. 3B-Angel Ibanez went 2x5 with 1 2B, 1 R, and 1 RBI.

GCL Astros (7-7) 

Despite having equal the number of hits, the Astros lost 6-1 to the Cardinals.

Chia-Jen Lo threw 2 innings and gave up 2 unearned runs with 1 H and 4 K. Raul Rivera pitched 2 scoreless innings with 1 H and 2 K. Jose Montero went 1.1 innings, allowing 2 R (1 earned) on 2 H and 2 BB with 2 K. Juan Mojica pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up 2 R on 3 H and 1 BB with 3 K.

3B/1B-Darwin Rivera was 2x3. 2B-Juan Santana was 1x3 with 1 2B and 1 RBI.

DSL Astros (10-17) 

The Astros beat the A’s 4-1.

Johan Arias went 5 innings, allowing 1 R on 5 H and 3 BB with 4 K. Yonquelys Martinez threw 3 scoreless innings with 3 H. Victor Mesa pitched 1 inning with 1 BB.

PreStros Farm Report: June 1-3

Oklahoma City (34-23) 

The RedHawks went 3-0 over the weekend. Let’s look at some of the key performances.

Paul Clemens had a strong start Friday with 7 innings, allowing 1 R on 5 H and 1 BB with 5 K. Aneury Rodriguez got roughed up Saturday, lasting just 2 innings and allowing 5 R on 8 H and 2 BB with 1 K. Dallas Keuchel struggled Sunday as he pitched 6.2 innings and was charged with 5 R (4 earned) on 6 H with 1 BB and 6 K.

Brian Bixler was 2x11 with 4 BB, 1 HR, 3 R, and 2 RBI. Brad Snyder went 4x11 with 1 2B, 3 R, and 1 RBI. Brett Wallace was 2x5 with 3 BB, 1 HR, 3 R, and 5 RBI. Mike Hessman was 6x9 with 3 HR, 4 R, and 5 RBI. Brandon Barnes went 4x8 with 3 BB, 2 2B, 1 SB, 2 R, and 2 RBI.

Man of the Weekend: Brett Wallace

*Notes: Brett Wallace and Jordan Lyles were both recalled to Houston. Andy Simunic was called up from Corpus. OKC has won 11 straight at home. Mike Hessman was named the Astros AAA Offensive Player of the Month for May. During the month he hit .338 with eight home runs. Xavier Cedeno was Pitcher of the Month, with a 0.63 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 14.1 innings.

Corpus Christi (27-28) 

The Hooks won two of three over the weekend.

Brett Oberholtzer threw 6 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 7 H and 2 BB with 4 K in his win. Jake Buchanan pitched 6 innings and gave up 2 R on 4 H with 4 K for his win. Jarred Cosart threw 6 innings and gave up 4 R on 7 H and 1 BB with 4 K in his loss. Josh Zeid made two appearances, throwing a combined 2 scoreless innings with 0 H, 1 BB, and 3 K and earned his first save of the season.

Jon Singleton was 2x10 with 3 BB, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 R, and 1 RBI. Austin Wates was 4x12 with 2 BB, 1 R, and 2 RBI. Adam Bailey went 3x12 with 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, and 3 RBI. Jonathan Villar was 2x8 with 1 BB and 1 RBI. Jake Goebbert was 4x9 with 3 BB, 1 2B, 2 R, and 1 RBI. Ryan McCurdy went 2x4 with 1 R. Jordan Kreke was 3x8 with 1 2B.

Man of the Weekend: Brett Oberholtzer

*Notes: Ross Seaton was named the Astros AA Pitcher of the Month. He went 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA over six starts and 36.2 innings. Jon Singleton was Offensive Player of the Month. Jon hit .281 with a .931 OPS and seven home runs.

Lancaster (30-27) 

Lancaster took all three games over the weekend while scoring a total of 42 runs.

Bobby Doran went 6 innings and gave up 1 R on 5 H and 2 BB with 3 K. Tyson Perez got roughed up in 3 innings, allowing 7 R on 10 H and 2 BB with 4 K. Jorge De Leon threw 5 innings and gave up 3 R on 4 H and 3 BB with 4 K. Jose Trinidad turned in 3 scoreless innings in relief with 3 H, 2 BB, and 2 K.

Erik Castro was 7x14 with 3 BB, 2 2B, 1 HR, 8 R, and 8 RBI. Kike Hernandez was 4x9 with 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 R, and 4 RBI. Alex Todd went 4x12 with 2 2B, 4 R, and 1 RBI. Rene Garcia was 2x5 with 1 R and 2 RBI. Grant Hogue was 6x10 with 2 BB, 2 2B, 5 R, and 1 RBI. Ben Heath went 5x8 with 1 2B, 2 HR, 6 R, and 8 RBI. Ben Orloff was 4x12 with 2 BB, 1 R, and 6 RBI. Rafael Valenzuela was 5x12 with 1 BB, 1 2B, 2 R, and 7 RBI. Jonathan Meyer went 3x5 with 1 2B, 3 R, and 2 RBI.

Man of the Weekend: Erik Castro

*Notes: Tyson Perez was named Astros Player of the Month for Lancaster. In May Perez was 3-1 with a 3.90 ERA. George Springer earned the Offensive Player of the Month award by hitting .324 with eight home runs and seven steals. Jason Chowning has been called up from Lexington

Lexington (31-25) 

The Legends took all three games over the weekend, outscoring Rome (ATL) by a total of 16-4.

Nick Tropeano threw 5.1 innings and gave up 1 R on 5 H and 2 BB with 9 K. Mike Foltynewicz went 8 innings and gave up just a solo HR and 2 BB with 5 K.

John Hinson was 3x4 with 1 R, 2 RBI, and 1 SB. Justin Gominsky was 3x6 with 1 BB, 1 SB, and 1 RBI. Roberto Pena was 3x7 with 1 R. Zach Johnson went 2x11 with 2 BB, 1 R, and 2 RBI. Matt Duffy was 2x11 with 2 BB, 1 2B, 1 HR, and 3 RBI. Drew Muren was 5x12 with 1 2B, 1 SB, and 2 R. James Howick was 2x6 with 1 BB, 1 2B, 1 HR, and 3 R. Delino DeShields went 3x9 with 4 SB, 2 R, and 1 RBI. Brandon Meredith was 2x7 with 1 BB, 1 2B, and 1 RBI.

Man of the Weekend: Mike Foltynewicz

*Notes: Luis Cruz was named Lexington Pitcher of the Month. He was 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA in May. Matt Duffy was awarded Offensive Player of the Month after hitting .343 with 4 HR.

DSL Astros (0-1) 

The Dominican League Astros had their season opener Saturday but lost to the DSL Mariners 4-3.

Edwin Villarroel threw 5 innings and allowed 3 R (2 earned) on 6 H and 1 BB with 1 K and 9 groundouts. Javier Saucedo threw the next 2 innings and gave up 1 R on 1 H and 1 BB with 1 K and 3 groundouts. Johan Arias finished out the last two innings with 0 R on 1 H and 1 BB with 1 K and 4 groundouts.

2B-Arturo Michelena was 2x5 with 2 RBI and 2 errors. LF-Frederick Serrano was 1x2 with 1 BB, 1 2B, and 1 R.

Astros sign international free agent

Baseball America's Ben Badler says that the Astros signed 16-year old IFA SS Arturo Michelena for $220,000.

Badler:
Michelena, a 16-year-old out of Maracaibo, is 6 feet, 165 pounds and has represented his country during international youth tournaments. He's a righthanded hitters with good hand-eye coordination and defensive actions.
