Oklahoma City (46-34) 

The RedHawks pitchers scattered 12 hits but only allowed one run as OKC beat Iowa (CHC) 3-1.

Aneury Rodriguez went 5 innings and allowed 1 R on 8 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Sergio Perez threw 1.2 innings and gave up 2 H and 2 BB with 1 K. Mickey Storey pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed 2 H with 2 K.

2B-Jimmy Paredes was 2x4 with 2 SB, 1 R, and 1 RBI. C-Landon Powell was 1x4 with 1 R and 1 RBI.

The JetHawks climbed back to .500 with a 10-3 victory over Rancho Cucamonga (LAD).

Jose Trinidad threw 7 scoreless innings and allowed 7 H and 1 BB with 2 K. Brian Streilein pitched the last 2 innings, giving up 3 R on 5 H with 1 K.

The Legends overcame a six-run deficit after two innings to beat Greensboro (MIA) 11-8.

Jonas Dufek lasted just 1.2 innings and gave up 7 R (6 earned) on 9 H with 2 K. Evan Grills threw 3.2 innings and allowed 1 R on 5 H and 1 BB with 1 K. Murio Gouvea pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 1 H and 1 BB with 1 K. Dayan Diaz took the ninth with 2 H and 1 K.

2B-Delino DeShields was 2x4 with 1 BB, 3 SB, 1 2B, and 3 R. The ValleyCats made the most of their four hits to beat Connecticut (DET) 5-2.

Joe Bircher threw 4 innings and gave up 2 R on 7 H with 1 K. Juan Minaya took the next 4 innings and allowed just 1 H with 1 K. Blake Ford pitched the final inning with 2 K.

LF-Dan Gulbransen was 1x3 with 1 BB, 1 3B, 2 R, and 1 RBI. C-MP Cokinos was 1x2 with 2 R.

Greeneville (7-3) 

The Astros used a four run third inning to beat Danville (ATL) 5-2.

Daniel Minor threw 4 innings and gave up 2 R on 6 H and 1 BB with 3 K. Mitchell Lambson threw 3 scoreless innings with 1 H and 3 K. Mike Hauschild took the final 2 innings with 1 H, 1 BB, and 3 K.

The Astros lost 7-6 to the Marlins in a shortened, eight inning game.

Jandel Gustave went just 1.1 innings and gave up 4 R on 2 H and 3 BB. Ricardo Batista threw 1.2 scoreless innings with 1 BB and 2 K. Reymin Guduan pitched 3 innings, giving up 2 R on 5 H and 3 BB with 2 K. Jose Montero took the final inning and the loss, giving up 1 unearned run on 1 H and 1 BB with 2 K.

SS-Carlos Correa was 1x4 with 1 BB, 1 2B, and 1 R. LF-Wallace Gonzalez was 1x3 with 1 R and 1 SB. 3B/1B-Kyle Redinger went 1x4 with 1 SB and 2 RBI.

The Astros bats unloaded on the Rays, leading to an 11-4 victory.

Johan Arias went 7 innings and allowed 2 R on 7 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Victor Mesa threw 1 inning and allowed 2 unearned runs with 1 H and 1 K. Rauldison Rodriguez took the ninth with 2 K.

Oklahoma City (61-72)

OKC won 7-6 in 10 innings. Dallas Keuchel shut down the Iowa Cubs with 7 IP allowing 4H/1ER with 3K:0BB. Jordan Lyles struggled in his return to OKC, lasting 1.1 IP while giving up 5H/4ER with 1K:1BB. Jeff Fulchino got the win in relief, throwing .2 IP allowing 1H/0ER.

1B-Brett Wallace was a force for the RedHawks, as he continued his hot hitting going 4x5 with 2 2B and 2R/3RBI. 2B-Oswaldo Navarro delivered the walkoff single as he went 1x5 on the night. Wallace is hitting .359/.465/.462 with 15BB:19K since his demotion, but has yet to hit a HR for OKC through 78 AB.

Corpus Christi (48-80)

Off Day Spotlight: OF-Adam Bailey

Adam was the 23^rd round pick in the 2010 draft out of the Univ. of Nebraska and 23 years old. He started the year at Lexington, where he hit .282/.329/.494 with 16 HR and 19BB:57K in 312 AB and was named a Sally League Mid-Season All-Star before being promoted to Lancaster. In his month with the JetHawks, Bailey hit .289/.316/.430 with another 5 HR and 5BB:23K in 128 AB. Since his promotion to Corpus, he’s hitting .326/.333/.500 with 1 HR and 1BB:7K in 46 AB. His combined line on the season is .288/.326/.477 with 22 HR and 25BB:86K in 486 AB across the three levels. Bailey also has an astounding 21 OF assists this season. He doesn’t strike out too much for a power hitter and if he can improve his BB rate I think he has a good chance of continuing his quick rise through the system.

Lancaster (48-81)

Lancaster gave up 9 runs in the 8^th inning to lose to the 66ers 14-6. Starter Robert Donovan went 7 IP allowing 8H/5ER with 2K:1BB. Then three pitchers failed to record a single out as 8 straight 66ers reached based to start the 8^th. Michael Ness gave up 2H/2ER, Colton Pitkin allowed 1H/1ER, and Kirk Clark gave up 2H/4ER with 2BB. All with 0 IP.

At the plate, CF-Austin Wates was 2x4 with 1R/1RBI as the DH. 3B-Jonathan Meyer went 1x3 with 1R/2RBI on a HR.

Lexington (54-74)

The Legends won 5-4 in 10 innings, their second extra inning game in as many nights. Tommy Shirley got the start but ended his scoreless innings streak, going 2 IP with 1H/3ER and 2K:4BB. Alex Sogard stepped up HUGE in relief, throwing 5 IP giving up 4H/1ER with an amazing 10K:1BB. Gabriel Garcia finished out the game with 3 IP only allowing 1BB/0H/0ER with 3K to get the win. Sogard, whose brother Eric recently hit his first ML HR as an IF for the A’s, has a 4.27 ERA with 103K:24BB in 97 IP for Lexington this season. His ERA may be inflated some by luck, as his FIP is currently 3.55.

RF-Domingo Santana continued his fireworks show, going 2x4 with 2R/2RBI and 1HR, his 4^th in 9 games with Lexington. 2B-Delino DeShields was 2x5 with 2R/1RBI and hit his 8^th HR of the season.

Tri-City (30-36)

The Valley Cats lost to Brooklyn by the familiar score of 7-4. Four of the last five games against Brooklyn have ended 7-4!

Starter Nick Tropeano went 4 IP allowing 3H/1R/0ER with 7K:2BB . Travis Blankenship took the loss, going 1 IP giving up 3H/4R/1ER with 1K:1BB. Tropeano, the 5^th round pick in this year’s draft, is 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 56K:19BB in 48.1 IP while only allowing 1 HR this season.

1B-Rafael Valenzuela was 2x5. RF-Drew Muren was 2x3 with 2R/1RBI and 1 BB.

Greeneville (25-38)

Greeneville lost 7-2 to the Burlington Royals. The Astros went halvsies on pitching duties, as starter Chris Lee went 4 IP allowing 2H/2R/1ER with 5K:2BB. Luis Ordosgoitti gave the other 4 IP giving up 6H/5ER with 6K:2BB.

2B-Josh Magee went 2x4 with 1R. RF-Ariel Ovando was 1x4 with 1 2B and 1R.

GCL Astros (19-34)

Game Cancelled due to rain. The last game of the season is scheduled for noon today against the Mets, assuming there’s not more rain.

Off Game Spotlight: 3B-Kyle Redinger

Redinger, the 11^th round pick in the 2010 draft, has struggled in his second go-round in the GCL. He’s hitting just .151/.244/.202 through 135 plate appearances, with 10BB:42K. He did get 5 HBP, so that’s something. His defensive numbers are identical to last season, as he’s committed 10 errors in 102 chances.

After two poor seasons with the GCL Astros, I don’t see Redinger making an impact in our farm system.

Nice profile on Kyle Redinger

Kyle Redinger's hometown paper has a nice profile on the hometown boy.

"I have my first season under my belt. I'm learning what it's like to be a professional baseball player. I'm learning how to deal with the struggles of the game and learning the mental aspect of the game...There's the everyday grind of waking up and doing it over and over again. I need to be able to play 160 games. I need to be prepared mentally and physically."

Where Redinger begins 2011 is up for grabs. It's a possibility, given his age, to repeat the GCL, but his goal is Lexington, says Redinger.

What happened?

Drafted in the 11th Round out of Cedar Crest High School in Pennsylvania, Redinger got off to a booming start in seven June games, before crashing back to earth in July and August.

Redinger hit a lot of ground balls - 60%, as a matter of fact. As a result, he posted a .278 BABIP, so they didn't find a lot of holes.

Thirty-five of Redinger's 36 defensive starts came at 3B, where he committed ten errors in 106 chances, for a .906 Fld%.

What went right?

June. In seven June games, Redinger hit .409/.500/.636, drawing five walks and collecting four extra-base hits.

Like Chan-Jong Moon, hitting w/RISP. His OPS was 186 points higher w/RISP (.677) than with the bases empty (.481).

Also, since we're looking for positives here, his Road OPS was .648, compared to .477 at home.

What went wrong?

July and August. After four extra-base hits in seven June games, Redinger got two XBHs the rest of the season. And after five June walks, he drew ten walks in July and August.

Hitting against RHP. In 121 ABs, Redinger hit .198/.277/.256.

Redinger has a big frame, so an off-season of conditioning and preparation should help him out as he moves to Greeneville.

Round Rock

Oof. Tacoma scores four in the 1st off Jordan Lyles (much to Deputy Street's chagrin, who drove approximately six hours total to see it), but Round Rock storms back, only to lose in 10 innings, 7-6. Lyles allowed 11H/5ER, 3K:5BB in 4.2IP. Jonah Bayliss allowed 2H/1ER, 4K:1BB in 3.1IP; and Chris Sampson took the loss, giving up a Dustin Ackley walk-off in the bottom of the 10th. Tommy Manzella was 3x4 with a double, homer, and 2RBI and Drew Locke was 3x5 with two doubles, 2RBI.

Corpus gave up a run in the first to Arkansas, but got six runs in innings 4-6 for a 6-1 win, despite getting out-hit 10-9. Erick Abreu was sharp, allowing 7H/1ER, 5K:1BB in 6IP. Bubbie Buzachero walked two and gave up three hits in 2.1IP, but nobody scored, and his ERA is 0.79. Jared Wells recorded his second save of the season, inheriting a bases loaded jam, and getting out of it with no damage. J.D. Martinez was 2x5 with 2RBI; David Cook was 2x3 with a walk, Michael Affronti was 2x4 with a triple and an RBI, and Lou Santangelo hit a two-run homer and added a walk.

Doubleheader, as the Legends try to make up games lost to rain.

Game 1: West Virginia and Lexington trade 3-run innings in the 2nd, but WV scores two for a 5-3 win. Zach Grimmett alllowed 4H/3ER, 3K:0BB in 2.1IP. Wander Alvino gave up 3H/2R (both unearned), and Colton Pitkin threw a scoreless 7th. Grant Hogue, Our Boy Bubby Williams, and Brian Kemp had your RBIs. Our Boy Aaron Bray was 1x2 with a walk.

Game 2: Lexington gets down 1-0, and then scores the next seven for a 7-1 win. Luis Cruz allowed 4H/1ER, 4K:1BB in 7IP. Jake Goebbert was 2x3 with a walk and 4RBI; Jonathan Meyer was 1x3 with a 2-run double. Jimmy Paredes was 2x3 with a walk and an RBI.

The GCL Astros cut the GCL Marlins deficit to 4-3 in the 7th, and then the Marlins scored four in the 7th for an 8-3 win over the GCL Astros. Danilo Del Rio allowed 4H/4R (1ER), 3K:2BB in 5IP. Pedro Gomez allowed 3H/4ER, 1K:1BB, and Matison Smith allowed 2H/0ER in 2IP. Garen Wright, Kyle Redinger, and Chan-Jong Moon had two hits each. Josh Magee and C-J Moon had your RBI.

Off. But it was the Texas League All-Star Game, and the Hooks were well represented. Jordan Lyles threw a scoreless 4th inning, and got the win. Koby Clemens was 0x4 with 2Ks, Lou Santangelo was 0x1 with a K, and Jack Shuck was 0x3. Still, Shuck stole the spotlight with his glove:

With two outs in the top of the ninth inning and the South clinging to a one-run lead, Midland RockHounds closer Jared Lansford gave up consecutive hits to the Wilin Rosario of the Tulsa Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals teammates Clint Robinson and Tim Smith.

When Smith singled to shallow left field, Rosario was waved around third and headed for home. Shuck fielded the ball on one hop and fired a strike to Hooks catcher Lou Santangelo who easily applied the tag to end the late-inning drama.

"I didn't expect him to be headed home, actually," Shuck said. "I knew I was playing shallow and I knew I had a shot at him when I saw him take off. I just let it go."

Lancaster

Jeez. The JetHawks were dominated by Modesto in an 8-1 loss. David Duncan threw 5IP, 9H/4ER, 3K:1BB, with a wild pitch and an HBP. Kyle Godfrey threw a perfect 6th inning, while Ashton Mowdy allowed 2H/2ER, 1BB in 1IP, and Mike Modica allowed 2H/2ER, 2BB in 1IP. The JetHawks only collected three hits (Barnes, Cruz, Parejo). Brandon Barnes also drew the only walk, and thus became the only JetHawk to get on base twice.

Lexington

Four in the 4th and two in the 5th led Hickory to a 7-4 win over the Legends. Tanner Bushue dropped to 4-4 after allowing 8H/7ER, 4K:1BB in 4.1IP, allowing two homers totaling five runs. Colton Pitkin closed it down with an impressive 3.2IP, 1H/0ER, 2K:0BB. Our Boy Aaron Bray was 2x4 with a double and an RBI, and Jake Goebbert also collected two hits, and an outfield assist. Jonathan Meyer was 1x4 with the other RBI. Jiovanni Mier was 1x4 with a double, but also committed his 22nd error of the season.

Tri-City

The ValleyCats wrapped up a three-game set at Vermont, and managed to not score a single run. Vermont wins 8-0. Murillo Gouvea allowed 4H/6ER, 1K:3BB for the loss. Blakez, Sogard, and Stines threw scoreless outings, while Mike Ness gave up a 2-run homer in the 8th. Tri-City only got four hits on the night (Orloff, Heath, Tello, Burnett), with Tello hitting a double, and Heath also drawing the only walk of the night.

Pitching battle in Kingsport as the Gastros defeat the Mets 2-0. Ruben Alaniz threw 5IP, 3H/0ER, 4K:1BB, while Brian Streilein, Phil Rorabaugh, and Travis Smink combined for 4IP, 5H/0ER, 4K:1BB. Telvin Nash was 2x4, and Bubby Williams hit a solo homer, with Jonathan Merritt adding an RBI double.

GCL Astros

Brutal game for the bullpen, as the GCL Mets and GCL Astros were locked up 6-6 going into the 9th. But the Mets scored four in the top of the 9th for the 10-6 win. Luis Ordosgoitti allowed 6H/3R (1ER), 5K:2BB; Austin Lucas gave up 2H/1ER, 3K:1BB in 1.1IP, and Pedro Gomez allowed 6H/6R (2ER), 1K:1BB in 2IP. That's six unearned runs, thanks to errors from Monzon, Gomez, and Fernandez. Continuing his rehab assignment, Collin DeLome was 2x4, and Jose Fernandez, Jose Vargas, and Roberto Pena each added two hits. Kyle Redinger was 1x3 with 3RBI.

Eddie's Farm: June 29

Round Rock

It really got away from Shane Loux in the seventh inning, as the Sounds scored three runs, turning a 2-2 game into a 5-2 lead, and adding one more for a 6-3 win over Round Rock. Loux threw 7IP, 9H/5ER, 8K:0BB, and allowing two solo homers. Three two-out hits in the 7th led to the difference in the game. Yordany Ramirez was plunked on the hand and added two hits, and Matt Kata was 2x4 (double, homer in the 9th, and a walk). Tommy Everidge hit one of the longest homeruns I've ever seen - certainly the longest I've seen at Greer Stadium - in the 4th.

Doubled up by Modesto, after allowing eight runs in the first three innings, and the JetHawks lose 10-5. Kyle Greenwalt gave up 8H/8ER, 1K:3BB, and got eight outs (how's that for symmetry?) Leandro Cespedes threw the final 5.1IP, 3H/2R (1ER), 2K:1BB. The JetHawks were 4x17 w/RISP, and left 12 on base. Freddy Parejo was 3x4 with an RBI, and Albert Cartwright was 2x5 with an RBI for your multi-hit games. Brandon Wikoff was 1x3 with 2BB.

The Legends overcame a 5-run 2nd inning by Hickory (who overcame a 4-0 Legends lead by the middle of the 2nd) for a 6-5 win over the Crawdads. Robby Donovan threw 6H/5ER, 1K:2BB in 2IP. Zach Grimmett came in with 4IP in relief, allowing 2H/0ER, 5K:1BB. Wander Alvino (2IP) and Kirk Clark (1IP) allowed a hit and a walk each, but no runs. The top of the order provided nine of the 14 hits, and five of the six runs. Jose Altuve, in the leadoff spot, was 3x4 with 2R. Our Boy Aaron Bray was 4x5 with an RBI and 2R. J.D. Martinez was 2x4 with a run and an RBI. Jiovanni Mier also added two hits on the night. Over his last ten games (12x33), Mier is hitting .364/.463/.485.

Tri-City

If you're counting at home, this 4-0 loss to Vermont is the second straight shutout, and the ValleyCats have scored two runs in their last three games (allowing 13). Bobby Doran allowed 6H/4ER, 1K:2BB. Andrew Robinson threw two scoreless innings, and Adam Champion and Jorge De Leon added one scoreless inning each. If you're in a hurry, don't worry, this won't take long. The ValleyCats got two hits - Wilton Infante (in the 4th) and Ben Orloff (in the 9th), while Hernandez, Afenir, and Orloff also added walks. Thanks to two GIDPs, the ValleyCats only got 29 plate appearances. Mike Kvasnicka got the night off.

Game 1: Oooh, durn pitch counts. Angel Gonzalez had a no-hitter going through 6IP, striking out four, and walking two. B.J. Hagen allowed 3H/2ER, 1K, in 1IP for the 7-2 win. Jhonny Medrano, Marcus Nidiffer, and Bubby Williams all hit homers.

Game 2: Greeneville wins again, 9-1. Jeiler Castillo, Garrett Bullock, and Ryan Cole each threw 2IP with 2Ks, with Bullock getting the win after Castillo allowed 4H/1ER. Justin Harper threw 1IP, 1K:1BB. Chris Wallace and Marcus Nidiffer hit homers, and the Gastros spread out nine runs over seven RBIs. Hector Rodriguez was 3x5 (RBI), while Wallace and Nidiffer added an extra hit each.

GCL Astros

The GCL Astros and GCL Cardinals traded 4-run innings, but the Cardinals scored the last five runs for a 10-6 win. Danilo Del Rio allowed 4H/4ER, 3K:1BB in 5IP, while the bullpen of Emmanuel Cedano, Matison Smith, Jeremiah Meiners, and Juan Mojica combined for 3IP, 7H/6R (5ER), 4K:2BB in relief. Meiners allowed three hits and a walk for three earned runs in 0.1IP, and his ERA is currently 67.50. Kyle Redinger was 2x4 with a triple, 3RBI, and a walk. Jose Fernandez was 2x3 with a walk, and Monzon, DeLome (rehabbing), and Parra added RBIs.
