The Astros beat the Angels last night, again, so be sure to read the Masked Marvel's recap, because it was fun. So that means Anaheim, Seattle, and Oakland lost while Houston and Texas won last night. The Astros retake 1st place in the division, and FanGraphs now has the Astros' chances of winning the division over 50% and an 86.7% chance of making the postseason. Trade deadline is tomorrow afternoon.
*A salty Garrett Richards said after last night's loss:
I have to be better. Bottom line. I'm not going to give them any credit. I have to be better.
*Lowrie is back, and will play 3B, and Not Fausto has been DFA'd.
*Mike Trout "appears several days away" from starting.
Jeff Luhnow:
My feeling was that maybe we could be a .500 team this year, and a puncher's chance at the second wild card. And next year, we would be maybe an 85-, 86, 87-win team, and a good chance to get a wild card race. And then the year after that, win the division title. We thought that was a good plan.
Previous link: The Astros and Phillies had a deal worked out, but Cole Hamels blocked it.
Previous link: Pat Neshek turned down "similar or higher" offers from the Pirates, Blue Jays, and Dodgers in the off-season. "My agent even said, 'How the hell did you pick this place?' Nobody believed in us." And then he bought $1000 worth of stuff for Club Astros.
*Talks with the Padres are "gaining steam."
*We'll have another running trade deadline post this morning.

Velasquez is coming
So 48 hours after Correa makes his Major-League debut, Vincent Velasquez will take the mound and start Wednesday's game against Chicago.
Velasquez - the Astros' 2nd Round pick in 2010 - will replace Fausto, who is headed to the bullpen in a long-overdue move.
Velasquez had allowed 15H/4ER, with 37K:9BB in 26.1IP for Double-A Corpus. You can bet he's going to be on a very strict innings limit, as he has thrown 289.2IP since being drafted in 2010, having thrown 63.2IP in all of 2014. Velasquez's story so far has been dominating stuff combined with some terrible injuries. He had Tommy John surgery at the end of 2010, and missed most of 2014 with a groin injury. Still, he has 346 strikeouts and a career 3.57 K:BB ratio in 289.2IP in the minors.
So...OMG.
It also means the Astros need to clear two off the 40-Man roster to accommodate both Correa and Velasquez. Jake Buchanan was optioned off the 25-Man to make room for Correa, but now they need two spots. Looking at the Astros' 40-Man, an easy call would be to take Villar off as one spot, and maybe Sam Deduno for the other, or they transfer Deduno to the 60-Day DL? Or it could be that Luhnow goes in and breaks somebody's leg in order to put someone on the 60-Day DL.

Wednesday Morning Hot Links
The Astros hit 30 wins last night and, with the Angels' extra-inning loss, FanGraphs is giving the Astros a 42.9% chance of winning the division and a 62.9% chance of going to the postseason.
*30-17 is the best start in franchise history, and it's also the quickest the Astros have gotten to 30 wins since 1998 (30-18), the team that finished 102-60.
Check out the Astros' record at 30 wins in recent seasons:
2014: 30-37
2013: 30-49
2012: 30-42
2011: 30-58 (!)
2010: 30-47
*The Astros scored all four runs from last night's win in the 7th and 8th innings, giving them 85 runs in the 7th or later - most in the majors. A.J. Hinch has a kinda sorta explanation:
We tend to have better at-bats as the game goes along. I don't really know why or don't have a reason, but we do. We lock in a little bit towards the end and, as we get runners on base, it shows up.
*Orioles manager Buck Showalter on Scott Feldman:
(Feldman) pitched pretty well, too. We didn't make many adjustments to patterns we knew were coming.
*Brett Oberholtzer will make a rehab start for Fresno today and could be activated as a long man, depending on whether McCullers stays in the rotation (which has my vote). The Astros are also moving Keuchel up between McCullers and Fausto to eliminate the possible need for multiple innings of relief on back-to-back days.
*Jose Altuve has a 600K-ish vote lead for starting AL 2B All-Star.

Tuesday Morning Link Dump
And here's your watercooler* cheat sheet**
*Nobody still gathers around a watercooler
**Or uses an actual cheat sheet
*The Astros weren't about to blow their entire international budget on Yoan Moncada. Luhnow:
We're going to spend $17m in the draft this year. We're going to spend $4m internationally, that's a big chunk of money. We spent $20m this year in free agency. We've made a decision that $40-plus million that we're going to invest this year is better spent in the amateur draft and in free agency for where the Astros are today, rather than doing some big splash in the Cuban market.
*Mark Appel is making people happy.
*A.J. Hinch is transitioning to full workouts today, and everyone is in camp except forFausto Carmona Roberto Hernandez, who is sorting out a visa issue.
*The Astros placed second overall in ESPN's analytics usage survey. Of course, the key term is "usage" and not "success."
*Rule-5 Catcher Luis Flores is excited about his opportunity with the Astros
*Josh Fields has a slight hamstring injury
