The Redhawks got their first home win of the season in a 11-0 shutout of the Memphis Redbirds (5-5). Wes Musick got the start and was stingy on the mound, giving up 2 hits and striking out 5 over 5 innings, earning his first win of the season. Jared Cosart followed Musick on the mound with 3.2 innings pitched, allowing 3 hits and striking out 3. Kyle Hallock pitched a third of an inning. At one point Musick and Cosart combined to retire 14 hitters in a row.
Brandon Laird lead the offensive attack with 3 hits in 2 ABs, including a double, 2 runs, and an RBI. Jonathan Villar hit his first triple of the season after being moved to the bottom of the lineup. Villar was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Hopefully this is a sign of him realizing baseball season has started and he needs to get his bat out of the deep freeze. Villar also had a stolen base. Jimmy Paredes (2H, 2R, 2B, 2RBI) and Trevor Crowe (2H, RBI, 2BB) each had 2 hits on the evening. Robbie Grossman (H, 2R, BB, 2K, SB), Mark Krauss (H, 3RBI) and Jake Elmore each had a hit, with Elmore extending his hit streak to 10 games.

Corpus Christi (7-4)
The Hooks gave up solo home runs in each of the last 3 frames, losing 3-2 to the Tulsa Drillers (5-6) in walk off fashion. Austin Wates (2H, R, RBI, BB, 2SB) lead the game off with a walk and stole 2nd. He then advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch from Tulsa starter Dan Houston. Jiovanni Mier (BB, K, CS) also walked which brought George Springer (H, RBI, SB) to the plate with runners on the corners and no one out. Springer singled to right field to score Austin Wates. 3 Consecutive ground outs from Michael Burgess (2K), Domingo Santana (K), and Jonathan Meyer (0-4) would end the frame. In the 2nd the Hooks would take advantage of a Driller error that allowed Erik Castro (H, R, BB) to reach base. Carlos Perez (2H, 2B, 2K) doubled to left field moving Castro to 3rd, who would then score on an Austin Wates single. That would the be the extent of the scoring for the Hooks. Enrique Hernandez had a hit and was caught stealing.
Asher Wojciechowski keeps up his scoreless innings pitched streak. In 5 innings he scattered 4 hits and struck out 3, walking none.
David Martinez pitched 1.2 innings and allowed a solo homer. He was awarded his first hold of the season. (2H, ER, 2K, HR.)
Jorge De Leon got the blown save, giving up 2H, 1ER, BB, 2K, and a solo home run.
Andrew Robinson got the loss when he gave up the winning run, another solo shot, to end the game.

Lancaster (8-3)
The Jethakws put up 15 runs on 12 hits to defeat High Desert (5-7) 15 to 5. Lancaster scored 5 in the 4th and 7 in the 7th. They got long balls from Drew Muren (1H, 2R, HR, 3RBI, BB, 3K), Preston Tucker (2H, 2R, HR, 2RBI, BB, K), and Andrew Aplin (2H, 2R, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, 2BB). It was Aplins first home run and he also notched his 3rd triple on a 5RBI night. Brandon Meredith (H, 2R, 2B, BB, 3K) and Raout Torrez (2H, R, 2B, 2RBI, K) each had doubles. MP Cokinos (2H, 2R, RBI, BB) also had a mutli-hit game. Nolan Fontana (H, 3R, 3BB, K) walked 3 times and scored 3 runs. Zach Johnson (RBI, 3K) and Tyler Heineman (0-1) were the only Jethawks without a hit.
Tyson Perez went 3.2 innings giving up 8 hits and all 5 High Desert runs. He walked 2, struck out 1, and gave up a long ball.
Theron Geith got his 2nd win of the season. (1.1 IP, 0H, 2BB, K)
David Rollins earned his first save of the season. (4IP, 2H, 2BB, 6K.)

What the hell is happening? OKC only managed two hits in a 3-0 loss at New Orleans. Wes Musick threw well, allowing 3H/1R (0ER), 3K:4BB in 5IP. Aneury Rodriguez allowed 2H/2ER, 0K:2BB in 1.2IP, with Chris Hicks responsible for one of those runs, having allowed 2H in 1.1IP.
Brad Snyder got on base twice, once via hit and once via a walk. Carlos Corporan had your other hit.

Someone turn a fire hose on Drew Locke - he hit a grand slam for the second straight game to lead a 7-run 8th inning on Corpus' way to a 10-6 win over San Antonio. Jake Buchanan threw 7IP, allowing 7H/4ER, 8K:2BB; Kevin Chapman got the W with a perfect IP, and Josh Zeid allowed 2H/2ER (ERA: 7.36) after Chapman was ejected in the 9th.
Chris Wallace was 3x4 with two doubles, 2RBI; Jair Fernandez (2B, BB, RBI), Jordan Kreke (2B, RBI), and Adam Bailey (2B) had two hits each. Jon Singleton was 0x3 with a walk and 3Ks. In the last four games against San Antonio, Singleton was 2x13 with 9Ks.

Wes Musick continues to look like a breakout candidate after helping the RedHawks beat Nashville (MIL) 4-1.
Musick went 6 innings, allowing 1 R on 7 H with 4 K. Mickey Storey
threw 2 scoreless innings. Jose Valdez pitched the ninth, allowing 1 H with 1 K
for save number 11.

The good news is that OKC didn’t suffer another walk-off loss. The bad news is they still lost, dropping the final game of the series 8-4, completing the sweep by Omaha (KC).
Paul Clemens threw batting practice for 3.1 innings, allowing 8 R
on 10 H and 2 BB with 1 K. Sergio Perez went 2.2 scoreless innings and gave up
just 1 H and 1 BB with 5 K. Xavier Cedeno had a scoreless inning with 2 BB.
Rhiner Cruz continued his rehab assignment with a scoreless inning with 1 H and
1 K. We’re now a month and a half into the season and Xavier Cedeno is still
sporting a 0.00 ERA through 9.2 innings.
CF-Justin Ruggiano was 3x4 with 1 BB, 2 2B, 1 R, and 2 RBI.

After falling behind 4-0, the RedHawks fought back valiantly but fell just short as they lost 7-6 to Albuquerque (LAD).
Henry Sosa threw 4 innings and gave up 5 R on 8 H and 1 BB with 1
K. Mickey Storey went 2 innings, allowing 2 R (1 ER) on 3 H and 1 BB with 2 K.
Sergio Perez, Xavier Cedeno, and Jose Valdez each went .2 scoreless innings to

Midland got four runs in the top of the 1st off Brett Oberholtzer, and cruised to a 9-3 win over Corpus. Brutal outing for Oberholtzer, who threw 5.1IP, 11H/7ER, 5K:0BB, including four 1st inning doubled. Jonnathan Aristil allowed 4H/2ER, 4K:0BB in 3.2IP.
T.J. Steele was the only player to get 3+ ABs and not get a hit. Kody Hinze was 2x4 with a homer, and Chris Wallace was 1x4 with a 2-run shot. Jake Goebbert and Jon Singleton (Jon "Homerton" as we'd like to call him) were each 1x3 with a walk. The big story was the running. Jonathan Villar stole two bases, and Austin Wates increased his stolen base total to five SBs on the season with three stolen bases.

Delino DeShields was 2x4 with a double and a walk (now with a .370 OBP - and remember, he's not yet 20), Alex Todd was 1x4 with 3RBI. The first five batters (DeShields-Gominsky-Scott-Johnson-Duffy) each drew a walk, but the Legends had 12Ks; three of them came from Mike Kvasnicka, who was 0x4, and is now hitting .091 with 10K in his last 23ABs.

The RedHawks completed the series sweep in Nashville (MIL) as they beat the Sounds 2-1.

PreStros Farm Report: April 9
PreStros: April 9
The RedHawks used just one inning to beat the Sounds 4-2 Monday night. After being no-hit through four innings, OKC scored all four runs in the 5th as they batted around in the inning.
Henry Sosa pitched well through 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 4
hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts and picking a runner off 1st before giving
way to a quartet of OKC relievers. Not all at once, of course; that would be
against the rules.
The RedHawk batters managed just 5 singles all game, but
thankfully they were all bunched together. LF-Fernando Martinez was 1x3 with 2
RBI and 1 BB. C-Landon Powell was 1x2 with 1 R and 1 BB. 2B-Jimmy Paredes went
1x3 with 1R/1RBI.
Man of the Match: Henry Sosa
After being down 4-1 in the 6th inning, Corpus stormed back to win 7-4 on a walkoff 3R HR by Jacob Goebbert
Starter Jake Buchanan battled through 5.1 innings, giving up 4
runs on 8 hits and 1 BB with 6 K. Kevin Chapman threw 1.2 scoreless innings
allowing 1 hit with 3K/1BB and went 1x1 at the plate with a single. Josh Zeid
finished the game for the win with 2 no-hit innings with 3K/1BB.

In other news you already knew
The Astros traded Matt Lindstrom, in a further effort to shed payroll - which is like throwing deck chairs off the Queen Mary - and to restock Eddie's Farm.

On Wes Musick:
Musick will be 24 for the 2011 season, and he's a southpaw with a reputation as a strike-thrower. He throws his fastball in the 88-90-mph range with a good curveball. He does have the ability to get hitters to swing and miss. Whether he's able to remain a starter will depend on his ability to develop his changeup, something the Rockies had him working on this past year.
On Jonnathan Aristil:
With a 90-mph fastball and decent secondary stuff, Aristil profiles as a long reliever or a spot starter. He's willing to soak up innings and he's not afraid to take the ball in any situation.
Baseball America:
On Aristil:
Aristil finished his season with two scoreless innings in Triple-A with Colorado Springs, but the converted infielder had an unimpressive season. Our scouting report also isn't terribly impressive. He's got an upper-80s fastball that touches the low 90s, an average changeup that he relies on significantly, and a below-average curveball.
On Musick:
Musick has an easy scouting report as a classic lefthander with excellent secondary stuff and a fringy fastball. He has a long medical history, as he had both knee surgery to repair a torn ACL and Tommy John surgery when he was in college at Houston. Musick was drafted three times—out of high school by the Astros in 2005, as well as '08 and '09—because of his feel for a curveball and an excellent changeups, which scouts rate as a plus pitch.
Ed Wade:
In a perfect world you can keep everybody around and be even stronger but, the reality at this point and time, we felt we had protection on the back end of the bullpen. With the ability to go out and add two more young arms to create more depth in the system and balance the payroll, this was a sensible deal for us to make.
It makes perfect sense to make this trade (although why Lindstrom wasn't included in the Paulino trade is unclear). The Astros have already committed to Brandon Lyon for $5m+, and Lindstrom was probably going to get $2-3m in arbitration. For a team that would feel lucky to finish .500, you don't really need to commit $7-8m to the last two innings.
I liked Lindstrom, but his back problems and the presence of Brandon Lyon made him expendable. Of course, had the Astros traded Lyon, it would have made further payroll sense, but I digress. Ultimately, good move by Wade, and there's one less 30-year old on the roster.
