Got some transactions for you on this beautiful Saturday morning:

July 16

Round Rock activated Josh Banks (All-Star Game)
Round Rock assigned Danny Meszaros to Round Rock from Corpus

In 26 appearances for the Hooks (32IP), Meszaros allowed 28H/11ER, with 42K:16BB for a 3.09 ERA/1.38 WHIP. In his last ten games, Meszaros has allowed 8H/1ER, 15K:6BB in 12.1IP.

Corpus placed Marcos Cabral on the Temporarily Inactive list, and activated Jordan Lyles (All-Star Game)

Lexington activated Dan Sarisky from the 7-Day DL.

Greeneville assigned B.J. Hagen to GCL Astros.

In seven appearances for the Gastros, Hagen (an off-season signee) allowed 19H/11ER in 10IP, with a 9.90 ERA/1.90 WHIP. He last pitched for Greeneville on July 10, when he allowed 6H/4ER in 1.1IP.

This would lead me to believe that the Astros had signed pitcher Erik Stiller, who has pitched the last two seasons for Cleveland's Double-A team in Akron. Ohio.com is reporting that the Indians had released Stiller five days ago. Stiller was 1-0 in eight appearances for the Aeros, striking out 12 and walking three. He had a 3.86 ERA and an even 1.00 WHIP.

He has a career 3.58 ERA / 1.17 WHIP in 291.2IP, with a 2.79 K:BB ratio.

After ten appearances in Greeneville, Sariskly was brought up to Tri-City for 12 appearances. At Greeneville, Sarisky was striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings. That strikeout rate dropped (to 9.8 K/9) and his BB/9 rate went up a walk per nine innings, but he did finish strong, striking out ten batters in his last three appearances (6IP). Sarisky tends to keep the ball on the ground, and he only allowed one homer - in Greeneville - all season long.

Hmm. I'm not so sure what to think about Mr. Sarisky. He did record five saves for Greeneville, and it's his first season in professional baseball, so that should absolutely be taken into account. But the .325 BAA, combined with the low strikeout rate, is something of a concern. In his last ten games, Sarisky had three outings in which he didn't allow an earned run. Only one of those was a 3+ out appearance. He does have a right-side-up groundout/flyout ratio, and his WHIP goes in the right direction as the situation becomes more precarious. Let's see what 2010 brings, when he can focus on baseball, and not being in a military academy.

(40th Round) The Astros select 6'1" 184lb RHP Daniel Sarisky, sophomore from Oglethorpe University.

For Oglethorpe in '09, Sarisky was 5-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 15 appearances (3 starts). 40.1IP, 34H/12ER, 65K:14BB, and was named to the ABCA All-South Regional Team.
