Abad up, Sampson down

I think this tells us what we need to know about the Round Rock pitching staff. Fernando Abad has been called up to Houston, while Chris Sampson was optioned to Round Rock.

Sampson posted a 5.93 ERA/1.68 WHIP in 30.1IP in Houston this season, striking out 16 and walking eight. The problem was the hits allowed - 43. In 2008, Sampson threw 117.1IP, and allowed eight homers. In 2010, he has already allowed seven. In his last two weeks Sampson allowed batters to hit .474/.474/.947. Righties had hit .354/.486/.671 against him, while the 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 9th spots in the lineup enjoyed 1.000+ OPSs.

So, all in all, pretty brutal year.

Fernando Abad has posted a 2.50 ERA/1.36 WHIP in 39.2IP for Corpus Christi, with 33K:6BB. In his last ten games, he had a 1.93 ERA/1.34 WHIP, with 19K:2BB.
