Reactions to G43 - Astros @ Reds

Who was the culprit?

Coop:
“Defense was pretty much the culprit today,” Astros manager Cecil Cooper said. “We didn’t catch the ball. We didn’t make plays. We had an opportunity to bail Wandy (Rodriguez) out, and we didn’t bail him out early. And late, we had a chance to bail the other guy (Alberto Arias) out and didn’t do it there. You can’t gift runs to other people and expect to win. The defense was the biggest culprit today.”

Who?

Tejada:
“Nobody’s going to feel sorry for us right now."

I'm not sure that anyone actually feels sorry for the Astros, anyway.

Tejada, on his leadoff booter:
“That’s a ball that we go in the hole and we have to get it perfect, especially when you’ve got a guy like Taveras running. I booted it a little bit. It is my (fault). I know I don’t want to make an error, but this is part of the game.”

Wandy, on his approach:
“I didn’t throw a lot inside today, and I missed a lot of my location.”

Cincinnati's Jonny Gomes:
"Fun day, long day. We ran out a good nine today. It was just good baseball all the way around. We did a good job with our situational hitting. We didn't leave a whole lot of runners out there."
