Saturday Morning Hot Links

*Random 2017 Astros fact:

The 2017 Astros went 50-26 against the AL West, tied with Cleveland for the best record against their own division. The 2013 Astros went 25-51 against the AL West.

*David Schoenfield writes that the 2018 Astros (and Dodgers and Indians) could be better than the 2017 Astros (and Dodgers and Indians).

*Everything about this picture - shirt included - is incredible

*Don't forget that you can buy good Houston shirts from BreakingT here and, through Monday, it's 25% off and free shipping after $50.

*Former Astros Great J.B. Shuck signed a minor-league deal with an invite to Spring Training with the Marlins. Look for Shuck to step up in the event the Marlins trade Giancarlo Stanton.

Only real Astros fans remember when the Astros had J.A. Happ, J.B. Shuck, J.C. Chasez, and J.D. Martinez on the field at the same time.

*Since there is almost literally nothing going on with the Astros (THAT WE KNOW ABOUT), here's my Hall of Fame ballot which is totally legit and will absolutely have an impact on some poor soul.

-Barry Bonds
-Roger Clemens
-Vladimir Guerrero
-Trevor Hoffman
-Chipper Jones
-Edgar Martinez
-Mike Mussina
-Jim Thome
-Billy Wagner
-Larry Walker

I kept myself to the terrible 10-player limit, but could easily make a case for Curt Schilling (even though I think he's a reprehensible human being), Manny Ramirez, Jeff Kent, Scott Rolen.

Who is J.C. Chasez?

I thought the same thing. I've always prided myself on keeping up with all the players that come and go. But, who the hell is J.C. Chasez?? I thought it might be a completely made up name then I Googled it and felt dumb..

I wouldn't vote for closers myself, and guys who were mostly DH's too. Sure, they played and all, but one relievers are more valuable than 3 pitch players, and DH may be a position but, like in football, long snapper and placeholder are positions and they aren't in the Hall, like virtually every special teams position otherwise.

Vlad Guerrero, Chipper, Vizquel get my top votes. Thome, E Martinez, McGriff, Mussina, Schilling likely, Walker maybe, Kent. Steroid cheats? No, I don't like giving scholarships to people for cheating on their SATs. People love to make excuses and I don't like that Pudge and Piazza got gifts, but like Gaylord Perry they make mistakes.

Reprehensible...really? What would make him reprehensible as a "human being"? The severity of judgement and the presumption of defining virtue would suggest an explanation is warranted.

Is this social or a political observation or what?

There are plenty of acts I might consider repressible and then there may be a body of work that I might consider reprehensible even leading me to subjectively judge "yep...that's a reprehensible human being."

However, I hope that if I was willing to exclaim it publicly that I could calmly and specifically make a case beyond my own world view.

I'd be interested in hearing where you are coming from as it pertains to a statement like that...unless it was just a drunk rant from the guy at the end of the bar that everyone wishes would just go home.

To Michael Carder - thanks for mentioning you Googled JC Chasez. I could have lived the rest of my life not knowing or caring who he was, but now, sadly, I do.
