Astros select Octavio Acosta

The Astros selected relief pitcher Octavio Acosta from the New York Mets' Double-A Binghamton team in the minor-league phase of the Rule 5 draft today.

Acosta is a 25-year old righty who had some success in the low minors - in 2014 he threw 73.2IP, 58H/24ER, 54K:25BB between Rookie Short Season Brooklyn and Single-A Savannah. Of course, he was a year and a half older than his competition.

Acota threw 28IP for Oaxaca (my favorite cheese) in the Mexican League last year, allowing 38H/27ER, 23K:8BB. But in the Mexican Winter League right now he has allowed just 10H/1ER, 7K:3BB in 12.2IP.
