Impact Prospects - FanGraphs

One of the debates about the Astros rebuild has been whether they're actually adding pieces that can eventually contribute at the major league level or just adding depth that creates winning minor league teams, but won't help in the ultimate goal of consistently competing for championships.

Tony Blengino of FanGraphs recently ranked all 30 orgs based on impact minor league talent and the Astros ranked....first!

Blengino lists 8 guys who he sees as making a meaningful impact at the major league level and that doesn't include Foltynewicz or any of the group that made their debuts in 2013.

Also check out his post on impact minor league talent in general here, and his 16th-30th ranked teams here.

No disrespect to Kyle Smith but if the Astros traded Folty for him I think most people would react pretty darn negatively.

Maybe Folty hasn't "dominated" in a fashion the author would like to see. Whatever. I get that part of the column requires contrarianism. But just as Domingo Santana is young for his level (and rightly gets credit for it), so was Folty who is all of three months older than Mark Appel.

I was (happily) surprised to see The Astros ranked number 1. When I had read his introductory post I thought it would be Boston or Minnesota with the Astros respectfully in the top 4.
