Justin Maxwell Traded to Royals

We interrupt the perpetual Bud Norris trade rumor updates to bring you an actual trade.
Did not see that coming.

UPDATE. The Astros are getting Kyle Smith in return. Evaluations of Smith vary, but John Sickels rated him as 4th in the Royals system. He had this to say about the trade.

I was hoping this would happen! Maybe the "Springer" door will open.

Horrible. Maxwell is a bright star. Makes me wonder if Altuve is next. Swinging door.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Maxwell is NOT a bright star. He's NEVER hit above .250 He strikes out a ton and he's dealt with injuries all year. Don't forget he was an 8th year minor leaguer released by the Yankees. Besides all that he's 29 years old (almost 30). In my mind, he was always a filler. JMHO

Maxwell is 29 and is not a "bright star". Altuve is 22 and just inked a long term deal. A huge difference between a stop gap and a future cornerstone.

Luhnow is a wizard. Ouch for Dayton Moore.

I was reading some of the Royals fan responses to the trade and most are like, "WTF is that?" I like Maxwell. DOn't get me wrong. But a 30 year old still trying to find his stroke. I think it's a great trade by Luhnow..

Some kind of steal. Royals need new management.

I don't think "steal" is the right word. Some sort of violent sexual metaphor seems more appropriate. This could end up being the Bagwell trade of the 21st century.

I certainly don't think it's Anderson for Bagwell. But it sure was a nice flip by Luhnow. It was a great day for the Astros. I know there are a few who disagree with me on this one, but job well done indeed..Michael.
