Wandy deal could hinge on Crane

Ken Rosenthal tweeted that any deal involving Wandy Rodriguez could hinge on the outcome of the Crane vote. Rosenthal says that Crane is willing to move him (of course - he makes too much money), and McLane leans more towards keeping him.

This may be a referendum on Ed Wade's tenure. It has been long-discussed about how ridiculous it was to extend Wandy in the first place. If Crane's first official act as owner is to approve the trade of a player that his GM extended 11 months earlier, that probably doesn't bode so well for Easy Eddie.

If we can get a Pomeranz out of trading Wandy, I have no problems with it...

If Wandy goes, this team becomes that much more unwatchable. I doubt I'll be able to stomach following them next year as they continue their fall into oblivion.

Crane is looking like a bigger disaster by the day. The Astros could lose 115 games next year without Barmes and Wandy. Total disaster in the making here.

Neither Barmes, nor Wandy are gonna make us be a championship team. If we can get something good in return, I say go for it.

Where does the payroll dump end? I'm aware the Astros are rebuilding, but don't they owe it to their paying customers to at least maintain some semblance of trying to win games?

The dump ends whenever they can get Carlos Lee off the books. Trading Wandy isn't wholly about payroll. It's about realizing that we aren't going to be competitive for a while, so trade off guys that aren't going to contribute to a future success, to get young guys that will.
