PreStros Morning Report: April 9

Last night was Opening Night for the minor-leagues! And since, over the last few years, that has been the source of our baseball joy, we'll be posting short-ish recaps of those games on a mostly-regular basis...

TL;DR

*Organizational Sweep! Astros affiliates go 4-0 on Opening Night.
*Jake Buchanan threw 4IP, 2H/1ER in a 2-1 Fresno win.
*Brandon Meredith hit a 3-run homer and Tony Kemp went 4x5 with a walk in a 9-4 Corpus win.
*Danry Vasquez blooped a walk-off in a 3-2 win over San Jose
*Kevin Comer threw 4IP, 0H/0ER, 2K:0BB in a 9-4 win at Peoria

Fresno (1-0)

Strong outings by Brad Peacock and Jake Buchanan and consecutive one-run innings gave the defending PCL Champion Oklahoma City RedHawks Fresno Grizzlies a 2-1 Opening Night win. Brad Peacock threw 4.2IP of no-hit ball, but with 2K:5BB; Jordan Jankowski struck out the final batter of the 5th, and Jake Buchanan threw 4IP, 2H/1ER, 1K:0BB to get the win.

Jon Singleton was 2x3, while Matt Dominguez (2B) and Matt Duffy were each 1x4 with an RBI; Nolan Fontana was 0x2 with 2BB and a run scored, and Domingo Santana stole his first base of the season. 

Man of the Match: Jake Buchanan.

Corpus (1-0)

Down 2-0 after one inning, Brandon Meredith hit a two-out three-run homer in the 4th and the Hooks never gave up the lead in a 9-4 beating at Springfield. Kent Emanuel got the Opening Night start and gave up 7H/3ER, 1K:2BB in 3.2IP; Mitch Lambson allowed just 1H/0ER in 2.1IP, and Angel Baez got the save with 3IP, 3H/1ER, 2K:1BB.

Tony Kemp had himself a night, going 4x5 with a walk and 2RBI; Conrad Gregor was 3x5 with an RBI; Telvin Nash (2B, RBI), Tyler Heineman (2B, BB), and Teoscar Hernandez (2B, Outfield Assist) had two hits each. Supastar Carlos Correa was 1x4 with a double, walk, and 2RBI. 

Man of the Match: Tony Kemp

Lancaster (1-0)

The defending Cal League champion Lancaster JetHawks opened 2015 with a walkoff 3-2 win over San Jose courtesy of Danry Vasquez. Brian Holmes threw 3.1IP, 6H/2ER, with 6K:1BB and an HBP; Tyler Brunnemann threw 1.2IP, 1H/0ER, 1K:0BB, and Edison Frias got the win with 4IP, 2H/0ER, 4K:0BB. 

Brett Phillips (3B, RBI) and Chase McDonald (two 2B) had two hits each; Chan Moon provided another RBI, and Danry Vasquez blooped a single to left to score James Ramsay (1x2, 2R, BB) for the winning run. 

Man of the Match: Edison Frias

Quad Cities (1-0)

The River Bandits were down 3-1 at the end of three and then scored the next six runs in a 7-3 win at Peoria. Chris Lee threw 4IP, 3H/3ER, 1K:3BB; Kevin Comer threw 4IP, facing 13 batters in an impressive 0H/0ER, 2K:0BB outing and the win; Ryan Thompson closed the 9th allowing just a hit.

Jamie Ritchie was 2x4 with a double, walk, and an RBI; Sean McMullen was 1x3 with a 2-run homer and 3RBI overall; Derek Fisher was 1x2 with 3BB; Jacob Nottingham was 0x2 with 2BB and an RBI.
