PreStros Morning Report: April 14

TL;DR

*Org goes 2-1 on the day; cumulative 16-6 record
*Preston Tucker hit two homers in a 12-4 Fresno win
*Carlos Correa hit his first homer of the season in Corpus' first loss on the year
*The Lancaster game was postponed due to severe winds, double-header today
*Derek Fisher hit a two-run shot and reliever Albert Minnis struck out five in 2IP in a 5-3 Quad Cities win

Fresno (4-2)

Salt Lake scored a run in each of the first two innings, but a three-run 3rd, a two-run 5th, and a two-run 7th resulted in a 5-4 Fresno lead after six. And then, um, it went off, Fresno scored the next seven runs of the game for a 12-4 win in a game where Garrett Richards was making a rehab start for Salt Lake (5IP, 7H/5ER, 5K:4BB). Tommy Shirley threw 5IP, 9H/4ER, 1K:0BB with eight groundball outs. The bullpen of Darin Downs (1IP, 1H, 1K), Jason Stoffel (2IP, 1H, 2K) and Josh Fields (1IP, 1K) held the Bees to 2H/0ER, 4K:0BB in 4IP.

Preston Tucker was 2x5 with two homers, four RBI, and three runs scored; L.J. Hoes and Matt Dominguez each had two hits, including a double, and 3RBI. Ronny Torreyes and Andrew Aplin (2B, 2BB, SB) added two hits each. Jon Singleton was 1x2 with an RBI, three walks, and three runs scored.

Corpus (5-1)

Your standard day-game pitcher's duel saw Tulsa take a 2-0 lead into the 9th and a Corpus charge fall short as the Hooks lost their first game of the season, 2-1. Aaron West got the start, throwing 5IP, 3H/1ER, 2K:0BB (41 of 57 pitches for strikes); Kent Emanuel threw 3IP, 4H/1ER, 1K:0BB, and picked off Corey Seager at 1B.

The Hooks managed just five hits - two from Carlos Correa including a 9th inning homer, his first of the season. Brandon Meredith (BB), Tyler Heineman, and Jon Kemmer added your other singles.

Lancaster (2-3)

The Lancaster game against Stockton was postponed due to severe winds with gusts up to 60mph. The game will be made up today (Wednesday) as part of a double-header.

Quad Cities (5-1)

Quad Cities jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings and never gave up the lead, beating Clinton 5-3. Kevin Comer threw 5IP, 2H/2ER, 4K:3BB to improve to 2-0; Jose Montero threw 2IP, 1H/1ER, 3K:3BB; and dadgum Albert Minnis struck out five batters in 2IP of scoreless relief to close it out.

Jamie Ritchie was 2x2 with two walks and a stolen base; Derek Fisher was 2x4 with a two-run homer. Mott Hyde was 1x3 with a double; Sean McMullen was 1x4 with a double, and Kristian Trompiz added an RBI single. Alex Hernandez was 0x2 with two walks and a stolen base.
