Tales from the GOATpen - County Series Game 3

Wow, time in our alternate universe is just flying by during this Series. It's almost as though it's aware that I have the time to write about it today. Weird.

Anyway, we're heading to Nacogdoches, where the home team Andujar Jar Binks hold a 2-0 lead in the series.

Tonight we have Don Wilson facing off against Turk Farrell. Here are the starting lineups.

In the top of the 1st, Greenville came out swinging. After consecutive, 1-out singles by Bill Spiers and Jimmy Wynn, Curt Blefary rocketed a 3-run HR 449 feet (83 Altuves) to right to give the Master Bateman the lead.

In the top of the 3rd, Greenville added to their lead when Joe Ferguson singled in Bill Spiers.

In the top of the 4th, Jimmy Wynn made it a 5-0 lead by singling in Greg Gross.

Greenville continued to pour it on in the top of the 5th. After a leadoff walk by Curt Blefary and a single by Joe Ferguson, Sean Berry sent a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left, making it a 8-0 lead now for the Master Bateman and sending Don Wilson to the showers. Carlos Hernandez came in to pitch for the Jar Binks. Hernandez failed to shut things down, though, as he allowed a Clint Barmes single and Greg Gross walk before Bill Spiers doubled, making the score 9-0.

It's just not in the cards for Nacogdoches today. In the top of the 6th, a one out walk for Joe Ferguson was followed by a 2-run homer by Sean Berry, giving Greenville a seemingly insurmountable 11-0 lead. That was enough for Hernandez and Dan Miceli came in to try his hand at stopping Greenville.

Miceli was able to hold off the Bateman through 2.2 innings before giving way to a pinch hitter in the 8th. Ken Johnson took the mound for Nacogdoches in the top of 9th.

Nacogdoches was never able to get anything going, as Turk Farrell threw a 4-hit shutout. He struck out 9 without giving up any walks.
