Mark Appel working on new pitch?

There's a quick note over at FanGraphs about a new pitch that Appel has been rumored to be working on this spring. I'm not a physics expert, but what they're talking about is something I've never heard of before.

“It’s insane,” said a source, who preferred to remain anonymous. “Once he’s got it down it’s going to be completely unhittable.”
Appel is said to have had tremendous success throwing his new pitch in practice and, according to the article, made Jose Altuve look ridiculous.

Eh, this is pure hyperbole, especially when it comes from an "anonymous" source. Nothing anyone should get excited about. How many times have we read about about a guy changing his swing, adding or refining a new pitch, or a guy showing up in the "best shape of his life" only for it to turn out to be nothing? 99 out of 100 times.

The FanGraphs post is a joke post.

. . . unless it's not.

At least it's a funny joke. They totally had me going for it until "struck out 37 batters in a row." The part about Altuve was just unnecessary.
