Mock! Draft!

Here's a Mock Draft in which the Astros are projected to take Stanford pitcher Mark Appel.

At this point Mark Appel looks like a clear cut #1 overall pick to go first overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. Appel is no stone cold lock to go #1 overall by any means necessary, but Appel has to be the frontrunner to be the first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft just like Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck is the frontrunner to be the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft at this point in the draft process even though nothing has been finalized yet.

I think and hope it will be Nick Williams, I know that we just drafted a OF this year and that we have a surplus but this guy is amazing, to me almost Bryce Harper skills. I guess we will see more from him this year and that will determine how good he really is. Also I believe that Bobby Heck has said that pitchers are such an unknown in the first round that drafting a position player has a much better chance of succeeding which is why I think we go for the top talent.

I wouldn't complain if we took Appel or Nick Williams. I'm not sure if anyone here has said it yet, but Appel grew up as a huge Astros fan here in Houston until his family moved to California. He still has strong Houston ties, as an uncle of his is one of the deans at Rice.

That being said, it's still too early in the process to say that there is a clear cut top overall pick. There's still a lot of baseball to be played. I wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Roache from Southern or the SS from Arizona State end up being the pick.

I will say it is tough to not like a college pitcher who throws upper 90's with pinpoint control. Sign me up for one or the other, I just hate to miss out on the next Ken Griffey Jr.

Some editing would have helped that article. Any editing.

This guy does know that prospects, even college prospects, take years to be MLB ready? He's acting like teams are gonna plug these guys into their lineups right from the get go. I give this "Mock Draft" no credibility.
