Johnson on the team

Bernardo Fallas is telling us that the Astros' Opening Day roster is set at 25, with Chris Johnson and Slammin' Sammy Gervacio making the team, and Jason Bourgeois getting - unsurprisingly - reassigned.

Here's your 25-man Opening Day roster (courtesy Brian McTaggart):

CATCHERS (2) -- J.R. Towles, Humberto Quintero.

INFIELDERS (6) -- Geoff Blum, Kaz Matsui, Tommy Manzella, Pedro Feliz, Jeff Keppinger, Chris Johnson.

OUTFIELDERS (5) -- Carlos Lee, Michael Bourn, Hunter Pence, Jason Michaels, Cory Sullivan.

PITCHING STAFF (12) -- Roy Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez, Brett Myers, Bud Norris, Felipe Paulino, Brian Moehler, Jeff Fulchino, Sammy Gervacio, Chris Sampson, Tim Byrdak, Matt Lindstrom, Brandon Lyon.

wow....can't wait to see if the Astros play Johnson at 1B or not until Berkman gets back. I can't imagine he'd be riding the pine

A couple days ago i really thought they would have rostered Shelton in the event Berkman wouldn't start on opening day

So, fresh homegrown talent getting a shot to start the season:

Towles (2nd chance)
Manzella
Johnson
Norris
Paulino
Gervacio

Not bad compared to recent seasons.

Towels knows this is his chance to make it and just maybe he didn't have the same kind of urgency at the start of 2008 that he should have now. I just wish JR wouldn't get so mad at the plate. Its not like we are expecting him to hit 30 home runs, so he should relax if he hits a lazy popup.

Johnson is on the club because the minor league camps just opened, which, of course he's been through. If Berkman comes back, he likely gets shipped. Unless he's tearing it up, at which point, it becomes a tough decision to make. How could you deny him with the spring he's having .307 6 hr 17 rbi. Would love to see him start hot and stay with the club. michael.
