Game 1- Verlander
vs Shields
Justin Verlander had a good night allowing only 2 hits and 3
walks while striking out 5 through 6 innings. Joe Smith, Colin McHugh and Ken
Giles allowed no other hits through the 7th, 8th & 9th
shutting out the White Sox. The offense made sure Verlander got the win when 6
Astros got on base with 5 crossing the plate at the top of the 4th.
The Astros would score 4 more on a George Springer double and a Carlos Correa
homer in the 6th inning. Correa would get his 2nd homer
of the night in the top of the 9th putting the Astros final run
tally at 10.
Game2- Keuchel vs
Giolito
Another 10 run night for the Astros and finally the first W
for Dallas Keuchel, who continues to bring his ERA down through the last 2
games. Keuchel looked sharp through 6 allowing only one run and striking out 6.
Hector Rondon, Brad Peacock and Tony Sipp took on the remaining innings,
allowing no other hits. All 10 runs were scored in the first 4 innnings,
knocking Lucas Giolito out after 2 innings and 72 pitches. In the top of the 1st, after Correa and Yuli Gurriel each brought in a run, Marwin Gonzalez
knocked in two with an RBI double with two outs. Top of the 2nd
started with the top of the order with George Springer,Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa
all being walked. In the cleanup spot, Josh Reddick cleared the bases with his
2nd Grand Slam of the season and his first of two homeruns on the
night. Final Score: Astros 10, White Sox 1.
Game 3- McCullers
vs Lopez
I know it had been said all off season, especially after the
acquisition of Gerrit Cole, but hot damn, this starting rotation is stupid
good. Lance McCullers Jr. kept the good starts rolling completing 6 innings and
allowing only one run. While LMJ only had 3 strikeouts, the guys behind him
played their part to ensure the win, as well as the bullpen. Will Harris, Kenneth
Giles & Chris Devenski held the White Sox to the one run they scored in the
2nd. Josh Reddick threw out Yoan Moncada at home plate in the bottom
of the third just to remind everyone you might wanna think twice about running
on Reddick. Another good day for the defense INCLUDING ol’ Handsome Jake who
singled, advanced two bases on a wild pitch and a passed ball and scored the go
ahead run on a Jose Altuve single. Marwin Gonzalez had his 2nd RBI
double in as many games and Evan Gattis nabbed his first homerun of the season.
The Astros scored 7 runs on 10 hits completing the sweep of the White Sox,
their 2nd series sweep of the season.
There they are. There are those Astros we know and love.
Every one of those guys on the field this weekend contributed to these wins and
that is why the Astros are a force to be reckon with.
