PreStros Morning Report: May 14

The Constable has asked me to do the PreStros again this morning.  I have an hour or two, taking time out during the travels, on a train with very slow wi-fi.

Summary

* Affiliates when a combined 1-2, to run the overall record to 83-74
* Oklahoma had no hits.  Nor did they give up any.
* Corpus won an extra-inning thriller, after giving up two game-tying, 2-out solo HR's
* Lancaster got a beatdown from a strong Bakersville squad
* Quad Cities lost.

Oklahoma City (22-18)

The RedHawks were off last night, pending a four-game series at Nashville.  Nashville lead the PCL American Southern League at 21-18.

Corpus Christi (20-19)

Corpus won an extra-inning thriller over the 17-22 San Antonio Missions.  The game finished in the 13th.  Both teams scored one run each in the 10th and 12 innings.  San Antonio tied the game twice on 2-out solo home runs in the 10th and the 12th, but were unable to repeat the feat in the 13th.

The game also started similarly enthusiastically, with both teams scoring one in the first, and Corpus and San Antonio scoring two in the second and fourth respectively.  It is going to be quite the box recap today, so please bare with me.

Leather:  Colton Cain kicked off, throwing three good innings (2H, R/ER, BB), yielding to Jordan Jankowski (4.2IP, 3H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 4K, 2HR).  Jorge De Leon blew the first save (2.1IP, 3H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 3K) and Travis Bellow blew the second save (2IP, H, R/ER, 2K).  Pat Urckfitz got the eventual save (IP, BB, 2K) with a scoreless 13th.

Wood:  Joe Sclafani (3-6, HR, 2R, 3RBI) and Andrew Aplin (3-6, R, 2B) both had .500 nights, with Preston Tucker also on base three times (2-5, 2B, BB, RBI).  Other than that, all reasonably quiet, with those three players also accounting for all of the XBH.

Man of the Match:  Pat Urckfitz was very nearly my Astros Roundtable LHP choice, and now I wish I had chosen him because Luis Cruz got so badly lit up last time out.  I will try to make it up to him by deeming him my MOTM for May 14.  Zat alright, Pat??

Lancaster (23-17)

Lancaster got lit up at home, 10-0, by the ridiculously strong Bakersfield squad (27-13).  Let's speak of this no more.  Except to undertake the below game recap.

Leather:  Brian Holmes was making his third appearance at Lancaster, and it was his worst to date (4/2IP, 7H, 6R/ER, BB, 3K, HR).  That put Lancaster in a bit of a hole.  Richard Rodriguez (1.2IP, 2H, 1R/ER, BB, K) and Tyson Perez (2IP, 4H, 3R/ER, BB) got out their best shovels and continued digging.  Juan Minaya finished off the game with scoreless, 1 hit inning.

Wood:  Wood?? What wood??  None of that on display from Lancaster.  The quick story is: a hit each to Anthony Kemp and Bobby Borchering, but a team wide 5BB (Ruiz - 2, Vasquez, Sosa, Rodriguez) versus 3K.

Man of the Match:  The Umpires, Clayton Hamm and Jake Wilburn did the most to help Lancaster win tonight.  They ejected a blaze player each.  That earns them a MOTM, at least for this game.

Quad Cities (18-20)

The RiverBandits lost to Wisconsin (18-20) by a score of 5-1  Both teams scored one in the first, then Wisconsin scored 4 in the 4th.  All very boring (score-wise) from them on in.

Leather:  Evan Grills went 7, giving up 7H, 5R, 4ER, 3BB, 2K, throwing 83 pitches in the process.  Chris Cotton struck out one in a scoreless inning.

Wood:  Brett Philips (2-4, 2B, R) and Chan Moon (2-3, RBI) were solid at the top of the order.  Conrad Gregor (1-4) also had a double.  On base twice was Ronnie Mitchell (1-3, BB).  As a team, the RiverBandits struck out 11 times versus one walk.

Man of the Match:  Nary even an ejection to push this award to the umpire, even.  Sigh.  I will award award to Cockroach, who has had the pleasure of a couple if great game recaps over the Rangers.  Congrats, Cockroach!

Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed rifling through the box-scores.  I will most likely be back tomorrow as well, depending on what country I wake up in.
