PreStros Morning Report: April 27

I thought that I would give the Constable a break today, and try and get the PreStros Morning Report done before he gets up...

TL;DR

(whatever that means)

* Affiliates went 1-3, but who cares, the Astros finally beat the Athletics by more than one run.  The combined win-loss total stands at 50-43.
* OKC lost 8-5 to the Nashville Sounds, yielding 4 unearned runs
* CC lost to Frisco 4-3, after fighting back from 3-1 to draw level.  Jorge De Leon got saddled with the loss
* Lancaster scored 5 combined runs in the first and ninth, but only one in the middle to lose 8-6.
* Quad Cities went all nasty on Peoria, winning a laugher, with the pitching-catching battery having some fun.

Oklahoma City (13-11)

Oklahoma City loses the series finale to the 12-11 Nashville Sounds, feeder club for the Brewers.  The RedHawks had a 1-0 lead going into the top of the 4th, then it all turned to custard for Bobby Doran, who finished with 5IP, 8H, 5R, 2ER, 0BB, 1K.  He then handed it over to David Martinez, who pitched 3 innings, allowing 5H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 3K.  Chia-Jen Lo finished the game with an inning of 1H, 1K ball.  The 4 unearned over the game were due to errors by Torreyes and Singleton on throws, and Stassi on a PB.

On the offensive side, Oklahoma cranked out 10 hits, 4 of them for extra-bases (3x 2B, 1x HR).  Ronald Torreyes, starting at shortshop, was the finest producer, going 2-5, HR.  The doubles were hit by Gregorio Petit (2-4), Max Stassi (2-4) and Enrique Hernandez (1-4, 2-out RBI).

Mr Singleton struggled (0-3, BB) whilst Domingo Santana did a little better (2-4, RBI).

Man of the March: Ronald Torreyes.

Corpus Christi (13-10)

Corpus went down to the 16-7 Frisco Roughriders.  The game started badly for Corpus, with the Roughriders scoring two in the first, and another 1 in the third to lead 3-1 after three.  Corpus drew level with runs in the bottom of the 4th and 7th, but eventually lost to Frisco when they scored a run in the top of the ninth, and held off Corpus in the bottom half.

Aaron West started, but only managed 2.2 innings, and gave up 3H, 3R/ER, 0BB, 0K, 2HR.  He was relieved by Andrew Robinson, who went 3.1 innings, yielding only 3 hits whilst striking out 2.  Pat Urckfitz went a further 2 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 2.  Jorge De Leon gave up a leadoff HR to Ryan Rua (currently batting .357) in the ninth, and took the loss.

Holding the bats, the Hooks managed only 6 hits (all singles) but eleven walks (versus 2 strikeouts).  The top of the order went walk-crazy (Chris Epps 1-3, 2BB; Nolan Fontana 0-2, 3BB; Andrew Aplin 1-3, 2BB).  The other walks were drawn by Preston Tucker (0-4, BB), Leo Heras (1-3, BB) and Rene Garcia (1-4, BB).  RBI's credited to Aplin, Joe Sclafani and Jiovanni Meir (latter two going 1-4).

Man of the Match: Andrew Robinson and Pat Urckfitz, combined 5IP, 4H, 4K.

Lancaster (14-10)

Lancaster lost away to the 8-16 Rancho Cucamonga, 6-8.  Lancaster scored 3 in the first and 2 in the ninth, but Rancho Cucamonga chipped away, scoring their 8 runs over 5 innings (1, 3, 4, 5, 8).

The ball-hurlers were led off by Mike Hauschild, who, er, didn't do well (3IP, 6H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 2K, 1HR).  However, neither did Tyson Perez (2IP, 4H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 3K) or JD Osborne (2.2IP, 1H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 4K).  Jamaine Cotton got the last out.

The bat-swingers managed 8H and 4BB, but only one extra-base hit in the form of a triple, via Brandon Meredith (2-4).  Anthony Kemp (1-4, R), and Ruben Sosa (2-5, R, SB) were solid at the top of the order.  Carlos Perdomo, filling in for Carlos Correa at SS, went 1-3, 2SB (2nd and 3rd, same inning), R, but also had a throwing error.  Team LOB: 8. RISP 3-10.

Man of the Match: tossing up between Carlos Perdomo (2SB in one inning) and Brandon Meredith (the only XBH)

Quad Cities (10-12)

The River Bandits save the day!  They took down Peroria (13-8) in a 15-3 laugher.  In addition to that, the game got called with 2 outs in the ninth due to weather, so the River Bandit pitchers only recorded 8.2IP

The Batguy publicly recorded his man-crush on Gonzalo Sanudo in these very pages, who responded by going 5 strong (3H, 1R, 1ER, 4K, ERA 0.50).  Sadly, the Commentators Curse meant that the scoreless streak which extended over 40 innings has come to an end.  Adrian Houser relieved after Sanudo got, uh, "lit-up", and managed 3IP, 1H, 2R, 0ER, 4K, 0BB.  The error was a fielding error committed by Chan Moon.

(I'm damned if I can work out how 2 runs scored with Houser's line.  I think a 2 out-error, and a strikeout-wild pitch put two on for a run-scoring double).

In terms of the offence, QC was led by a 4RBI game by Jobduan Morales, the catcher, who finished a triple short of the cycle.  His line: 4-6, 3R, 2B, HR.  Right ahead of him in the order was James Ramsey (2-4, 2R, BB) and right after him was Jon Kremmer (2-5, 3R, BB, HR) and Thomas Lindauer (2-4, R, 3RBI).  So the bottom 4 of the order combined for 10-19, 2BB, 2x2B 2xHR, 10RBI.  Nearer the top of the order, Brett Phillips (2-5, BB, HR) and Chan Moon (2-6, R) had solid days.  Drawing 2 walks were Conrad Gregor (1-3, 2R) and Chase McDonald (1-4, R).

Man of the Match: The battery of Gonzalo Sanudo and Jobduan Morales had themselves some fun!
