35-1037: Kacy Clemens

With the 1st pick of the 35th Round (1037th overall), the Astros select 6'2" 200lb RHP Kacy Clemens from Memorial HS, TX.

Kacy, son of Roger, has a fastball that ranges from the high 80s to low 90s. He was Baseball America's 80th ranked high school prospect and is committed to Texas. As expected being the son of a major leaguer, he shows more polish that the typical high school pitcher. He had some buzz coming into the draft as a possibility to be drafted between rounds 2-5, but his commitment to Texas must have led to him dropping to the 35th round.

From the MLB Draft Tracker:
When watching Kacy Clemens, it is easy to see resemblances to his father Roger. Like his father, Clemens has a very strong build and a smooth delivery. He is aggressive on the mound and has shown a good feel for pitching. His best pitch is a fastball that sits in the high 80s with cutting action. He also throws a curveball that could turn into an above-average offering in the future. Clemens has a strong commitment to Texas and teams will have to take him within the first few rounds in order to sign him.

Kacy just posted a tweet that would indicate he will not be signing, but will indeed be fulfilling his commitment to UT.

Wasted pick, was there really a need to stroke Roger Clemens ego?
