Pre Stros Morning Report April 18th

AAA

Oklahoma City (7-7)

Game 1:

Oklahoma City took game one of the double header, defeating Round Rock (9-6) 5-3. The Redhawks started the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Mark Krauss (2H, 2R, 2B, RBI) led off the inning with a single. Jonathan Villar (3H, 2R, 2B, RBI, 2SB) doubled to left, advancing Krauss to 3rd. A single from Che-Hsuan Lin (H, 2RBI, CS) scored Krauss and Villar. Jake Elmore (H, 2K) ended the inning with a K, stranding a batter. Round Rock would score two in the top of the 3rd but OKC answered with 2 of their own. Trevor Crowe (H, R, 2B, BB, SB) doubled to lead off the 3rd and stole 3rd. Mark Krauss doubled home Crowe and Jonathan Villar would drive Krauss home with a single. Che-Hsuan Lin grounded out to end the inning, stranding Villar on 3rd. Jonathan Villar led off the 6th with a single, his 3rd hit of the game. Cody Clark (H, 2B, RBI) had the final OKC RBI on a double that scored Villar. Robbie Grossman (H, BB, K) had a hit. Gernando Martinez was hitless with 2 K's and a fielding error.

Travis Blackley started the game and went 2 innings, allowing no hits, 1R, 1ER, and striking out one.

Game 2:

The Redhawks dropped the 2nd game of the double header, losing 8-4 in 7 innings. OKC started the scoring again in the 2nd game on a RBI single from Mark Krauss (H, 2RBI, B, K) that scored Trevor Crowe (H, R, 2K, SB). OKC wouldn't put up another run until the final frame of the game. in the 7th, Andrew Simunic (2H, R) led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch by Evan Meek. Jason Jaramillo (2H, R, K) hit an infield single that advanced Simunic to 3rd. Robbie Grossman (R, BB) walked to load the bases. Jake Elmore (RBI, K) was hit by a pitch and got an RBI the easy way, scoring Simunic and keeping the bases loaded. The Redhawks scored twice more on RBI walks from Marc Krauss and Jimmy Paredes (2H, RBI, 2BB, SB). After walking in 3 runs, the Express pulled Meek and brought in Cody Burns who struck out Lin (H, K) and Villar (0-4, 4K) to end the game. Check out Villar's box score from game 1 compared to game 2 and you will see the potential Villar has, as well as the swing and miss in his game.

Corpus Christi (7-6)

The Hooks fell 4-2 in 17 innings to the Frisco Rough Riders (9-4).Corpus put up the first run of the game in the 4th inning. Austin Wates (H, R, 2B, 3K, SB) doubled to lead off the inning. Jiovani Mier (H, 2B, BB, 2K) walked and advanced to 2nd after George Springer (0-6, BB, 4K) walked. After Michael Burgess K'd, Jonathan Meyer (RBI, BB, 3K) walked to score Austin Wates. The Hooks could not score again and would leave the bases loaded. The Hooks broke a 1-1 tie in the 7th when Enrique Hernandez (H, R, HR, RBI, BB) homered to left. Jason Stoffel allowed a solo home run in the 9th to tie the game, and it would remained tied until the 17th inning. Rene Garcia had 2 hits and a k. Rafael Valenzuala went hitless in his Hooks debut. The Hooks struck out 19 times, went 1-10 with runners in scoring position, and left 10 men on base.

Carlos Qeuvedo got a blown save, his first of the year. (1IP, H, ER, BB, K)
Alex Sogard got his 2nd hold of the season. (0.2IP, H, 2K)
Jason Stoffel got his 1st blown save in 2 innings pitched. (4H, ER, K, HR)
Jorge De Leon pitched well in extras, going 4 innings, allowing 1 H and striking out a batter.
Pat Urckfitz got tagged with the loss. (3IP, 3H, 2ER, 2BB, K)

A

Lancaster (9-4)

The Jethawks fell 4-2 as they couldn't recover from a 4 run 2nd inning by the Bakersfield Blaze (4-11). Andrew Aplin (2H, R, 2B, K) led off the 4th with a double to right and scored on a Zach Johnson (H, RBI, K) single. Johnson would be stranded at 2nd base. In the 5th Raoul Torrez (H, R, 2K) singled to lead off the inning. Nolan Fontana (2H) would advance him to 3rd with a single of his own. Torrez would scored on a GIDP by Carlos Perdomo (0-4). Mp Cokinos had 2 hits on the evening.

Chris Devenski lasted 5 innings but gave up 10 hits. He earned his first loss of the year. (4ER, BB, 4K)
Brady Rodgers followed Devenski with 4 scoreless innings. (3H, 4K)

Low A

Quad Cities (9-5)

Quad Cities scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning but would need 4 more including 1 in extra innings, to defeat Kane County 9-8. Jesse Wierzbicki (2H, R, 3B, RBI, SB) tripled to lead off the 2nd innings. Rio Ruiz (H, R, 2B, BB, K) followed with a walk. Roberto Pena (H, R, RBI, K) scored Wierzbicki with a single to center. Ariel Ovando (H, R, HR, 3RBI, BB, K, E) would drive in Ruiz and Pena with his 1st homer of the year. Terrel Joyce (3H, 2R, (2)2B RBI, BB) doubled and scored on a single from Teoscar Hernandez (2H, 2B, RBI, 2K). Carlos Correa (0-3, 2K) K'd for the first out of the inning. Chase Davidson struck out to end the inning, stranding a runner. In the 7th Austin Elkins (H, R, BB, 2SB) scored on a RBI ground out by Jesse Wierzbicki. In the 8th Teoscar Hernandez drove in Terrell Joyce with a double, but was thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch it into a triple. Terrell Joyce doubled in the winning run in the 10th, scoring Jordan Scott (R, BB).
