Strech Suba not renewed

The closest thing the Astros have to a cult hero might be Strech Suba, the Astros' bullpen assistant for 36 years. Well, that cult hero is gone. Deputy Phelps mentioned it yesterday (and we were all too busy to be able to post about it).

Now Brian McTaggart has confirmed that Suba will not have his contract renewed.

Pour one out for Stretch today.

what a low class organization, firing a bullpen catcher with 36 years with the team.

Suba has been around forever but that doesn't give him tenure or anything. It's the nature of the game, if they think making a move can improve the team I'm all for it.

Astros baseball without Stretch Suba? I was sad to read the news.

He's become more surly and not as engaging with the years. Its time for new blood and maybe someone who can keep players loose and upbeat.
