Now what.

Thank God that's over. The worst season in Astros history, by one game, on a walk-off, has been completed, to what I'm sure is everyone's delight. It's been a hard season, and was about as fun to write about as it was to watch. So thank you all, from the staff of Astros County, for continuing to find reasons to visit the site.

Over the course of the off-season, we have the following items planned:

*The Designated Hater series - telling you why you should hate the other 14 American League teams.
*Defensive Replacement Dante Aligheri: The Exact Moment in the last two seasons that the Astros traversed Dante's levels of hell.
*Coverage of the Winter Meetings, held in The Constable's backyard, in which we will attempt to have a beer with Jeff Luhnow, Mike Fast, and Kevin Goldstein.
*More long-reads (feel free to submit requests).
*A breakdown and report card for every Astro.
*Spotlight on the PreStros.
*Arizona Fall League
*Adding a writer or two.
*More randomness.

Seriously, Astros County is better than ever, and with Trostel, Cockroach, Deputy Phelps, and others, we're looking forward to the emotional recovery of 2012. Thank you for your support.

Boy did I pick a tough time to start writing about this franchise.

That said, it's a good feeling to have completed my first full season here after starting out in August of last season. Though work got in the way of my daily reports a couple months ago, being a part of Astros County has been awesome so far.

There is a lot to get excited and write about now. The farm system has improved an unfathomable amount in a very short time. Despite back to back record setting losing seasons the organization as a whole has regained much of the industry respect lost since 2005.

Moving to the AL is a slap in the face but you true Astros fans aren't curled up in the corner, barking and growling at the wind like some mentally challenged dog. It's time for Astros fans to bow up, tell MLB that they hit like a girl, and show them what we're made of.

This is an exciting time to be an Astros fan. That may sound funny, after the past two seasons, but the winds of change are blowing through. And it smells like funnel cake.

I think JD Martinez might need more of a long-read than a breakdown/report card. In 2011 he crushed everything he saw, including MLB hitting. 100 PA's into 2012 he was crushing everything he saw to the tune of .284/.414/.444. Then it stopped. Something went way wrong and I'm not sure if anyone, including JD himself, knows what happened.

Yeah, I tried not to be insulted that the team went 8-49 right about the time that I started writing regular recaps... that was more fun than I ever want to have again.

But seriously, the future is looking bright in Houston, dumb DH rule or not. Looking forward to great things for the Astros in the future, and for our humble little corner of the Internet.

Yeah, I won't act like it wasn't a tough year to love the Astros, but, really, I am so stoked about the future. Screw the AL, but at least we can feel good about our chances for sustained success with the (seemingly) good moves this new FO has made on the baseball side of operations.

Astros County is a daily visit for me during the season, and I'll probably keep stopping by almost as often in the off-season. Thanks for the work y'all do!

I'd like to see someone do a little in depth write up on the similarities between Michael Bourns first season with the Astros and Jordan Schafers first season with the Astros. Bourn was almost surely the superior defender, but were they really far apart offensively? Could we see a similar rise in Jordans production like we saw with Mike?

I'd be real surprised is Schafer is even on the roster next year.
