Astros let Raymond/Dolan go

In one of your classic "Making changes just to make changes" moves, the Astros announced that Dave Raymond and Brett Dolan will not be retained for the 2013 season. So the only member of the radio team that we know of is the football player from Houston who won a contest. That's great, for him.

But we - like most fans - are pissed. Having come to the Astros in 2006 and worked around Milo's schedule for the last seven years, Dolan and Raymond were pretty damn good radio guys, and that they will not be retained makes me mad.

Dolan:
"I'm really disappointed. Broadcasting baseball is all I've done my adult life, 19 straight years, and the last seven years [in Houston]. It's a difficult change to digest. I guess the disappointing aspect of it is [that] I bypassed pursuing some other opportunity in recent years because I wanted to be here long-term. We'll see what happens next."

Astros County has reached out to the Astros for further comment.

Yeah this sucks, I really liked their broadcasts. And Dolan was very good when he showed up on the 790 sportstalk shows to talk about the Astros. Especially when considering the host usually couldn't give a damn about the Astros and tried rush through the interview.

They'll land on their feet. Rumor is that Dierker has already signed on as the new color guy and the Astro's are negotiating with another play by play guy.

As some of our readers already know, I have very strong feelings on the business side of the Astros. When the time is right, hopefully this weekend, I'll weigh in.

Bryan, I look forward to hearing your take.

Do we still have the same guys for the television broadcasts?

I'm not exactly heartbroken. They weren't bad, but weren't anything special. Hope they land on their feet, and I wish them best in the future.

I would have liked to hear them for a full year without Milo Hamilton every other inning for home games.

Dolan and Raymond were terrible. Intelligent, but both babbled way too much about things unrelated to the game action, and were just very bland, unremarkable game-callers. I'm glad the Astros let them go (hopefully in favor of someone good).

Those who are "mad" about this, I'm afraid I have to question your taste. Neither one of these guys was exactly the 2nd coming of Vin Scully.

Now, if they weren't bringing back JD and Brownie, I'd be leading the pitchfork mob...
