Just in case you were wondering, Rob Dibble is full of crap

So Hardball Talk linked to a little thing about Rob Dibble saying he sort of liked Cole Hamels hitting Bryce Harper. And then Dibble said he did the same thing to Jeff Bagwell back in the day.

Well, The Common Man beat us to the punch, and found that, no, Dibble never hit Jeff Bagwell. Instead, Bagwell went 3x8 in his career against Rob Dibble with three strikeouts and a walk. Via TCM (and Baseball-Ref), Jose Rijo was the only Red to hit Jeff Bagwell in 1991, and that was on September 20 when Bagwell led off the 4th inning. Rijo also did it on the first pitch of the AB. Was that intentional? I don't know, but let's ask Jose Rijo instead of Rob Dibble.

Rob Dibble DID plunk Eric Yelding once back in 1990 or so. Even though Dibble had 6 inches and 100 pounds on him, Yelding charged the mound and kicked his ass. I swear to God. Look it up. I seem to remember Ed Ott and Danny Darwin gettin' in on it, too. Ahh, those were the days. You won't see THAT in the American League.
