Keith Law's Mock Draft!

Keith Law posted his Insider-only mock draft. But let's see who he has the Astros taking at #8:

Josh Sale, OF - Bishop Blanchet High School (Wash.)

The Astros have been all over Sale this spring, and they have nothing like him in their system. They also like Cox, but I don't see Sale going ahead of No. 8.

At #19:
Delino DeShields, Jr 2B - Woodward Park Academy (Ga.)

The DeShields/Astros connection has been running rampant for a month, and it's not out of the question that they might take him at No. 8 if Josh Sale is gone. I've also heard that the Astros could take Alabama outfielder Reggie Golden either here or with their first sandwich pick.

I think the Astros just need to add the best player available regardless of position. Deshields seems like the Astros kind of player (athletic and toolsy). Sale is interesting because he plays 3B now but is projected to play the outfield in pro ball. If the Astros take him the Astros should give him every opportunity to play 3B.

I think that's what they'll do - there are so many holes in the system that I imagine they'll just get the best available. Drafting for need is what teams with four of five years of great drafts do.
