Are the Astros secretly pursuing Adam Dunn?

Interesting article from Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune this morning.

The Astros may be secretly pursuing Adam Dunn on a one-year deal, moving Hunter Pence to center field and Michael Bourn to the bench (or to Round Rock).

Rogers makes a good point: the players know what the market is, and they know - unless they're Manny Ramirez, whose agent, Scott Boras, has other issues on the table right now - what their financial options are. So now they're looking for the right fit. And a multi-year offer from Washington doesn't seem to appeal to Big Donkey. So maybe a one-year deal from Houston would be the right fit.

Back in November I shot down the idea that Dunn could fit, but that was dependent on Michael Bourn's presence in center. If that's up for discussion, there could be a fit.

This is the first time I've been excited about a potential Astros move this offseason. If it vaporizes, my Astros soul will dribble out of my shoes (what's left of it, anyway).

In terms of fit, this one is a no-brainer to me, esp. on a one-year deal. Dunn is a masher, and whatever defensive deficiencies Pence would have in center and he in right would be overshadowed with the big fellow in the lineup.

...everyone is reading the Rogers article wrong...it doesn't say anything about the Astros making an offer....it's just him suggesting the Astros would be better with Dunn...

this is being way over-blown...

What I keyed in on with the Rogers article was the first line, "Houston is planning a sneak attack on the Cubs."

Rogers is a respected enough journalist that if he puts that line together with a few sentences on Adam Dunn coming to Houston, then it's more than idle speculation.

In other words, it's not the same as me saying "The Astros want to get better, and Adam Dunn is still available."

Michael is correct. The Astros do not plan on upgrading a dadgum thing.
